Thought I would get this thread going again. Here is one of the best examples of a 10-Speed Road Ranger Trans that I've seen.
Now the truck itself is not GM, but the Engine is. I posted this for the Trans, but at the same time, enjoy the sound of another 6-71 Detroit: Bill |

I just sold mine today. I hated to see it go, but I just bought it this year and have way to many projects to do anything with it. 1972 C-40 original 350 4 speed trans. The last picks are when it was on the trailer getting ready to leave.

Nice set of trucks. I especially like the '69 9500 and the '69 MH9500.
The Wrecker is mis-labled though. If the Sheet Metal is all original, the truck is either a '66 or a '67. Also, it may have a 6-71 now, but by the Emblem (missing) on the side of the hood, it looks like it was either a V-6 Gas or a Toro-Flow Diesel. I believe the 8500, which is a pretty rare truck, also has a 2-piece Windshield like the 9500 has. Bill |

There is nothing wrong with a 1-Ton. I have 2 of them. A '68 C-30 Flatbed Dump and a '72 C-30 Flatbed. I also have a Holmes 440. I may just put the Wrecker Body on the '72 someday.

Here is a 1972 C60, it's a yard find. I am negotiating with the original owner to buy it. It has a 427 with 5 and 4 transmissions and air brakes.

Just a quick question: Did they use the same cabs for the C/K 10-30s and 40-90s. I was at a junkyard last week and they had a '70 C60. Its cab was identical to my C20.

You could probably make it work on a pickup, and modify the fender sides of the flip up hood to be more "Pickup like".

I personally think it would look awkward having a C-60 Cab on a C-30, but then again, I've never seen one. A 4-53 will fit into the C-30 as it is. I may just get one into one of my trucks yet. Bill |

Here is the old "Winch Truck" 1967 C-50 with it's original 327. It was first titled in 1969, and used in a salvage yard until the late 70's when it was purchased by my great uncle Joe as a thank you gift for my Dad. My dad painted his 1955 Chevy and he liked it so much he bought my dad this old beast. He knew how much the truck was needed for around his shop. It's seen it's better days, that's for sure! But it still fires right up and drags whole trees out of the woods, or picks up some of the biggest rocks you've ever seen with its 30 ton winch. It's been rolling around on level ground, waiting for some attention for about two years...I want to get the brakes working properly again, and put some new doors, cab corners and rockers back on it, and just keep it going. It definitely deserves it! I have a great amount of respect for this machine. Reason One: It will kill you! lol Two: It has been around since I can remember with minimal maintance! Had there been a place to store it, it probably wouldn't need much of anything fixed. Three: Every time a job has called for it...it fires right up faithfully, and gets the job done! And Four: This truck very well could be the cause for my 67-72 Chevy truck illness!

Looks like a tough 'ol truck. I like the Spoke Wheels. It is rare to see them on a C-50.

I finally put my '71 GMC on the road this past weekend. Put about 110 miles on it and did pretty good. The notchy Clark 5 speed + 2 speed rear takes some getting used to though. I don't know if I'm not shifting the 2 spd rear right or not but it seems to grind and take several seconds to shift from high to low range. However, it shifts from low to high just fine???
I stopped at the scales on the way home and I was grossing 29K. |

Nice looking set up.
When Shifting the Rear from High to Low, hit the button down just a little before you need it. If it is a "Split Shift", shift the trans first, then hit the button and let the rear engage while you are releasing the clutch for your trans shift. By the way, others may say different, but I always use the Clutch when shifting the rear as well. About the only time I would not use the clutch, would be going from Low to High in 5th. That shift is usually pretty smooth. Bill |

I going to continue to practice. It has the working 5 speed so I'm also having to re-train my brain for 4L-5L-4H-5H shift as well. I think I like the old RoadRanger 10 speeds better.:burnout: |

I agree, I like a Road Ranger a whole lot more, but a 2-Speed Rear is better than no 2-Speed.
Having that type of 5-Speed is really nice as you can go through 9-Speeds and only having to deal with engaging Low with the button down twice (skipping 1-H if you have a granny gear first). Bill |
