Well finally some progress after along wait. Fuel cell is set in place made some brackets for that and with a little clearencing the new camaro longtube headers are in. Heres some pics. Oh yea and I sweat on everything it was HOT.

Re: MY build thread...
Those headers look like a good fit....not too low like most longtubes.
|
Re: MY build thread...
They hang the same as a stock tranny x member so I have to modify it by welding thetop clamshell section to the main and removing the bottom section that bolts to the frame. Thats why they call them custom though.

Re: MY build thread...
Hope your recovery goes well. Looks like some great progress. :metal:

Re: MY build thread...

Re: MY build thread...
Great job on the build and get well soon. I'll be starting my '62 build this summer and will be needing advice.
Just wondering if the spring is still running in St. George? It's been over 20 yrs. since I'd been there and the water was good then. |

Re: MY build thread...
Could you take more pictures of your back end frame and let us know what you did to get your stance? I am very interested. I saw the build pics, just want to see the final results and some numbers (like pipe size) that is a great stance.
|
Re: MY build thread...
Well I rolled the pipe notch out of a piece of flat 1/4 stock steel to about a
4" diamiter and welded it in. You could use 4" id pipe and cut not quite in half then firestone bags on the rear and re7's up front with home built lower arms and upper plates. I also have a 1" spacer on top of the rear bags because they deflate so flat I would have to notch the bed if I went that low. I'm going to start plumbing the system next week I hope so there will be alot of pics of that coming soon. Thanks for your intrest in my extreamly slow build. |

Well progress... Front bags are in and lines roughly routed until I get a tank now its time to get brakes and steering figured out then hang the front clip

Re: MY build thread...
Being the paint is satin black I'm painted pieces as I get them done. Cab and doors once, then fenders, now I'm working on the grill filler panel and inner fenders then the bed. The bed I havent even started on it yet. When I go to paint the truck the final color I am going to pull front clip as an assembly with hood then pull motor and probably pull the bed off. I was planning on jaming everything first like firewall, door jambs fender edges and back of cab and front of bed BUT couldnt afford paint and I wanted to drive this thing so satin black it was.

that has a lot of travel! |
Re: MY build thread...
Yea so much that it is putting my upper balljoint in a bind SO... I am looking for some balljoints that have more travel to them. It goes from the x member about 2" off the ground to the front suspension being completly locked up to where it cant lift anymore. It goes up slow now being off a blowgun but drops like a rock...Its going to be fun. Thanks for the comment.
|
Re: MY build thread...
I'm still wondering about these ball joints. They might be the same bolt pattern but i'm not sure about the width if it will fit in the spindle

Thanks bama63. Mark those fricken things are 99 EA...Damn.
|
Re: MY build thread...
Do you have any more detail on the headers your running? Brand or even better model number?
|
Re: MY build thread...
SUM G9001 or 9001-9 for ceramic. Summit brand right from the catalog. Keep in mind my motor is in an od location and I had to trim the pass side rail slightly to clear.
|
Re: MY build thread...
Lets get them tanks mounted and start plumbing

Well wasted a trip to the blaster they told me last week they wanted to see it to estimate then I haul it there and now I have to take it back wednesday. Heres some pics of tanks mounted on truck and stuff before blaster. And my neew painted trailer.
|
Re: MY build thread...
What tailights is that rear pan set up for?
|
Re: MY build thread...
They are the round trailer lights cheap! I think it's going to get cut off and do some flush mount lights. I am either going to have to fab up the tail pieces of the bed or quit being a tight ... And buy the pieces! We'll see what it looks like after the blaster
