Re: My 1965 build thread
I still haven't got my parts from CPP. I called today and was told that one item is back ordered. They should have relayed the info. That might be the problem with others not getting their items in a reasonable time.
I did get something in the mail today. I got this off of ebay. It's a serpentine setup. It came with everything (including bolts) except a water pump. I've got to see which water pump I have to use. It is in awesome visual shape. It is used, but at a 1/4 the cost, right now I call it a great deal. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08137.jpg I also started to work on one of the bedsides. I'm welding up the joints for a smoother finish. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08135.jpg http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08134.jpg |

I've got a list of parts that I need for my 383. I built it, but then took alot of stuff off of it to get another engine running. The 383 has about 500 miles on it. The parts list is just a bunch of nickel dime things. I need another small block that I could pelfer off of. Hey sdailey are you home? You've got a small block right.:lol: |
Re: My 1965 build thread
Here is the 383 as it sits now. It's been on the stand for about 8 years bagged up.
http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08140.jpg http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08142.jpg The temp gauge is fixed.;) http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08147.jpg I figured out how to roll the speedo back. The zeros are in the wrong position on the shaft which is easy to fix, but then I ran into a bigger problem. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08152.jpg The housing was froze up. I eventually got it freed up. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08160.jpg The needle was froze up on the shaft which eventually broke. It had to be removed to take the speedo apart. I don't think I can repair the pin. Anybody got a speedo for sale? Ebay here I come. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08162.jpg speedo exploded view http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08157.jpg |

I got the TCI 350 trans today with lokar shifter, kickdown and dip stick tube. It also has a 2500 stall. He bought it new this past summer. It might have a couple thousand miles. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08163.jpg http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08164.jpg Now he wants to sell his wheels and tires. The rear has a 5 'back space he says. I can't remember the tire sizes. All I can remember is the rear is a 295. I measured our axles today and they are the same. Were still working the deal. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/DSC07239.jpg http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/DSC07241.jpg |

Re: My 1965 build thread
Yeah I got my suspension parts after 3 weeks.............Oh, wait a minute the Ubolts are wrong :cuss::cuss: It took 3 weeks because the ubolts were back ordered. Here is what I got.http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08180.jpg Not only are the Ubolts the wrong size. I ordered 1/2" they sent 7/16" http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08182.jpg But, i got an assortment of nuts. 6 self locking and 2 plain, but at least they are for a 1/2" thread http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08179.jpg I'm familiar with some bolt head identification, but i'm not familiar with this one. It's the hardware that mounts the sway bar brackets to the frame. They say it is grade 8. I'm skeptical. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08181.jpg |
Re: My 1965 build thread
3 marks like that is typically grade 5
|
Re: My 1965 build thread
Everything I find says three lines in that pattern is Grade 5.
|
Re: My 1965 build thread
grade 8 typically has a hash mark at each point of the hex

Re: My 1965 build thread
Here is my email to CPP
I ordered the 6372LCUK 1/2" Control arm U-bolt kit. I got 7/16" ubolts and 6ea self locking 1/2" and 2 regular 1/2" nuts. Here is a picture of what I recieved http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08179.jpg I also ordered the CP7423-BLACK FR Sway bar kit. The package says it contains grade 8 hardware. I'm familiar with some bolt head markings, but I don't believe this is grade 8. I could be wrong. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08181.jpg I waited 3 weeks to recieve this order due to the ubolts being back ordered. That is what I was told when I called 12-1-2008 to check to see what the status is. I'm anxious to get my frame rolling again. So, please let me know what will happen. If this email goes to the wrong department could you please forward to the correct department. You should have my truck info but here it is again 1965 C-10 SWB V8 Auto Cpp 2.5" drop spindles Cpp 4" rear drop CPP Tubular engine mounts and trans Xmember (Incorrect hardware package, I took care of it) Cpp PS adapter kit (Incorrect hardware package, I took care of it) I'm a member of http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/index.php. CPP gets alot of press there. Thanks |
Re: My 1965 build thread
I've used CPP before but there's absolutely no excuse for ONE customer to receive several of his orders w/incorrect hardware. Someone @ CPP needs to go down to the shipping/handling area & freakin make some waves. In this economy...... send someone home for a week w/o pay. That should do it.
Making it right after the fact (and delays) isn't going to cut it either. I've been a vocal supporter (and customer) for CPP. But after seeing this, I will not suggest their product line any longer. |
Re: My 1965 build thread
i have had no dealings with them......after seeing this and others, I don't really want to risk it.
too bad, they seem to have some nice stuff |
Re: My 1965 build thread
This dosen't solve the cpp problem, but do you have a place local that could make you some u bolts? I was able to go to a trailer supplu shop and get some made fot my T ...pretty cheap.

Re: My 1965 build thread
Alan,
Sorry to hear about your hold up on your build and I hope CPP makes it right for you. When I removed some leaf springs from the rear of my truck I coudn't find the right size u-bolts I needed till someone suggest this little shop in town. Check around and see if you guys might have someone like this. if not maybe these folks could help you out, here is a link to their web site. http://www.custom-springs.com/ I hope this helps you out. good luck. David |
Re: My 1965 build thread
What a day. I tried to locate some U-bolts locally. I tried the following without any luck
1. Advance Auto 2. NAPA 3. Local trailer supply 4. Southern Offroad Then I called Truckandcarshop.com they had them but would take a week to get them unless I wanted to pay thru the nose for shipping. Regular shipping was $11. Everyone that sells them sells them in a kit to do both sides. Ranging from $26-29, until I called LMC, they wanted $14.95 each. I didn't even ask about shipping. As of right now I haven't gotten a reply to my email to CPP. I did call them and was told the u-bolts are still on back order. I think they just threw something in the mail to buy more time. They are sending a return authorization. Then I thought if GM still offered the lower A arm bumpers they might carry these as well. Guess what they do. They are the 9/16. I'll have to open up the holes to accomendate. The cost is $6ea list. My cost is $4.50 and they will bring them to where I work. I should have them by this Friday:metal: They had to order as well, but at least it is in their warehouse. I didn't know something as small as this would cause so much frustration.:waah: The speedo I won on ebay showed up today. It's awesome, and completely rebuilt. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/DSC08183.jpg |
