Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
Ok Flyboy, thanks for the correction on the patterns. I'm just so used to grouping the year models together when I talk about these trucks.
Being that my truck will be painted medium olive I'll probably just go with the basic black covers as well. I wouldn't mind having some covers with some scroll work in them like on the 69-72 buckets, but I haven't seen any off the shelf covers like that for the 67-8 buckets. |
Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
looking good Shannon.... Wish i had a neighborwith auto body skills like Allan. Good luck with your build.......

Please post pictures. We all love pictures around here. I have all of my photos saved in a photobucket account and it's pretty easy to load them here from photobucket. Sending you a pm. |
Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
Haven't figured out how to get them in here yet, but put a link to my photobucket in my thread. Put a few pics of the way it came to in there.

Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
Well, the wheels of progress are still slowly turning here. The sandblaster called me this past weekend to tell me that he is finally up and running again after dealing with a faulty injector pump on his compressor. So now we're just waiting on some nicer weather before I get my cab blasted. :metal:
I've been half heartedly looking for a "factory" style steering stabilizer for a little while now and after some help from some members here I was finally able to order the correct one. I have '72 Blazer axles in my truck now and they have a tab mounted/welded to the front axle where the stabilizer mounts. For some reason I was having the hardest time locating the correct setup and the local "4x4" shop wasn't much help either. Here are a few pictures of the style stabilizer that I was looking to replace. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...ere1/mount.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...e1/mount-1.jpg Here's the new one that I got from Rancho. Part# RS97325 (On a side note all of Rancho's shock are now painted silver instead of white.) http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0811.jpg This "kit" includes the studs that go through the eyes of the shock and mount to the bracket on the axle and the bracket that mounts to the tie rod. I'll just have to re-use the old u-bolts and bracket that clamps to the tie rod. . |
Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
nicer weather? does he need to be in shorts or something?
I just got 30" of snow this week... that's a lot for PA.. |

Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
I got a visit from the man in the brown truck yesterday.
This thing was sealed up tighter than Fort Knox. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0803.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0804.jpg 24 screws later I finally got the lid off. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0806.jpg 10 lbs of packing material http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0809.jpg One hell of a packing job. It's nice buying from people that go through this much effort to ensure that the goods arrive undamaged. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0810.jpg What was in the box you ask? A fully rebuilt floor shift tilt column.;) http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0808.jpg I've been wanting one since I started my build, but $500 for a rebuilt column was hard to swallow. I've been searching craigslist and e-Bay for a while now off and on hoping to find a "cheap" one but I haven't had any luck. When I did find good "deals" I never had the spare cash to pull the trigger. I found this one on e-bay and watched it for the entire 7 days figuring it would be snatched up at any minute because he had a "buy it now" price that was cheaper than what I've seen used/abused tilts going for. I finally bought it on the final day of the auction and after several emails to the seller confirming that it was a true truck tilt and not a converted van/auto tilt. Even with shipping I still have less than four bills in it.;) It also came with new tilt and turn signal levers. I thought the seller was a member here, but when I asked him about the site he said that he had never heard of it. So maybe he'll join in the future. He said he's been messing with 67-72 trucks for years now. Stay tuned bodywork should be around the corner. I hope. . |
Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"

Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
Shannon, does he rebuild tilts on the side?

Heath he may. I didn't ask him directly about that. I looked at his past feedback and auctions, before buying my tilt and saw that he has sold a few auto and floor shift tilts in past auctions. All of the feedback about the tilts he sold was good. He may rebuild one for you if you ask him. PM sent. . |

I sent him an email a while ago about rebuilding mine and he said that he is super busy with work and that he does them on the side. And he is backed up about 4 months on the ones he has to do. He said to contact him at a later date and he might be free.

Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
Small update....
If you've read through my build you'll remember that I had some issues with my aftermarket fuel tank. Well, I finally rounded up the necessary material to fix the issues. The drawing I submitted to the shop had a side fill filler neck that was supposed to be double mitered for easy filling, but this is what I got instead. Can you imagine trying to fill through this at the gas pump? http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0817.jpg The next issue was the vent tube. It was supposed to point to the side just like the filler neck. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0826.jpg I cut and welded up a piece of tubing with double miters to help with filling the tank. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0818.jpg Here I test fit the new fill neck compared to the old one. Notice that the old one doesn't even clear the top of the frame rail. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0824.jpg Next I cut off the old fill neck and vent tube and cleaned up the welds. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0831.jpg Here is the final result...a fill neck that should allow fuel to flow freely into the tank. I welded in a pipe coupling to use for the vent line. I'll screw in a 90* barb fitting to connect to the vent line. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0836.jpg It's not amazing progress, but at least it's checked off the list of things to do now. . |

Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
Well here's the latest progress.......
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/IMG_0839.jpg We got my cab, cowl, and hood loaded up and dropped it off at the blaster this past Saturday. I should be able to pick it up this coming weekend if all goes well. Last week Alan and I fished the brake lines through the frame trying to get them mocked up. Everything lines up pretty well for the most part. The only area that's confusing is where they all tie together on the driver's side frame rail. I've searched the board for pictures of the correct routing and found some good detailed build pictures that should help me get mine figured out. Also, I found a truck on the board that looks like what I had envisioned mine looking like when it's complete. It belongs to NYC-10 and I hope he doesn't mind me using his picture. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/DSC09735.jpg This truck has pretty much the same specs as mine. 4" lift 33 x 12.50's Meduim Olive/White paint The only difference between the two is I'll be running a 71-2 front end and I haven't fully decided if I'm running any trim or not. So now I have an almost exact replica to look up to to help me stay focused on my build.:metal: Stay tuned bodywork should commence here shortly.;) . |
Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
looking forward to the progress....
|
Re: Project - '69 4x4 named "Patches"
We hope it looks that good after I (we) get done painting it . :haha:
