Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Nice, I like the small details on the chromes. I'm contemplating what chromes to keep on mine.

Then on Monday morning she drove it to work... she's been driving it all week..:metal:
Here's a shot of here leaving... God was smiling on her too...a nice 'good morning' rainbow... and a shot of her arriving back home in the afternoon. I had a touch of the 'wine flu' on Monday so I called in sick so I was able to wait around with the camera all day at home... :) |

P.S. Can I have your old door panel screws as my 57' is missing about 5 of em'? Gracias:ito: |

It's been a while since I posted... Here's a little update. A couple Friday's ago I removed the seat and installed some "flooring" in the truck. Started off by laying in the tar sound deadener...then some 'jute' padding finished with a carpet kit that she scored on Craigslist a while back:metal:. Here's some pics...

The plans are to patch the dash back to original and install one of those 'retro looking' modern stereos, but for now, since the dash was already cut for it, I put in a Pioneer CD player that she had stashed in the garage so she could have some tunes while cruising... it had some 6x9's in the kick panel vents. I wasn't sure how good they were, but when I hooked them up, they sounded great!:chevy:

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

That same evening, Lisa and her '65 made their car show 'debut'. :) "Cruise Night on the Plaza" here in Santa Fe. They have about one show in month in the summer and we were able to catch the last one for 2009. Lisa was in the '65, Fred followed in his '54 (now dressed in Rustoleum Satin Black) and me in the '62...:chevy:

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

A couple days later, on Sunday, we hopped in the '65 and drove down to Albuquerque to a little Rockabilly carshow/get together called the "Greaser Roundup". It's about a 120 mile roundtrip and the truck did great!

Since then we've been chasing a few bugs... small issues with the starter and carb. It doesn't stop us, we had the truck out all day yesterday...Cruising and enjoying. Everything's cherry!:ito:

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Great pictures, I wanted to make the last plaza get together. I can't remember what happened. I think I was working in the garage, and had already drank a few beers.

Very nice work Joe. Do you remember if it was a e-bay store selling the carpetor or just someone selling it.. |

Thanks! It was just some local guy with a posting on Craigslist. I think she paid $75 for it. It's a nice quality carpet too. Tightly woven, stitched edges, formed nicely with padding already on it. |
Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Damn nice Joe!!

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Cool truck man. Its always nice to have wife or family involved. My wife loves my old trucks. :metal:

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Way Kool truck, both of them!

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Thanks all! Like I said...We are still chasing the bugs out. Tomorrow we'll be putting in a new starter. There's also been some issues with the fuel. If the truck sits for even a day, the fuel line completely drains out... It's like running out of gas and trying to re-prime the system daily. I may try an electric fuel pump to solve this problem. I also have to chase down a couple oil leaks. It's all a part of the fun! I'll keep you's posted. Later....jc :ito:

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

It is actually a '50/50 mix of rustoleum and lacquer thinner shot through a paint gun'.........quote right outta Joseph's mouth. My brother Fred and Joseph really know their stuff...............or they are gonna figure out how to make it work!!! Chicano Engineering! haha
Joseph is at home right now chasing more of those bugs on my 65 down. I am sure she will run like a charm when I get home. I am lucky!!!! |
Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
How did you get the Rustoleum Paint out of the can to mix it with lacquer. :haha: BTW it looks great
|
Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
The 54 looks great. Do you think they could put a post up on how they did it? Did they paint a couple of coats, then sand, paint a couple of coats and sand?
|
Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Fred didn't do any 'between coat' sandings on the '54. He did some quick body work, put the car in primer, final sand then paint. He usually does two or three coats of color with an HLVP gun. He uses lacquer thinner because it reduces the drying time big time. He used semi gloss black on the body and gloss white on the roof. All Rustoleum.

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Thanks for the info. That's a great looking "poor man's" paint job. What type of gun is that a gravity feed? I bought a cheap gravity fed gun and was thinking about doing the same thing. I've never painted anything (except rattle can). I wonder how long it will hold up. I guess for the money, you could just rough it up and spray it again. Thanks again for the info.
