Re: Project NOT4SLE
Cool, lots of work there. How long till you drop the front?
|
Re: Project NOT4SLE
Love your progress - thanks for the updates!

Re: Project NOT4SLE
i would contact porterbuilt on that man. seems fishy. looks good
|
Re: Project NOT4SLE
Sent ya a PM Deven. The crossmember isn't designed to be used with the carrier bearing you have installed. A shim or spacer like you have made is necessary for clearance at the shaft. It will work as you have it. I will give you a call tomorrow to further discuss.

cool, Thats what I figured, Just ran around till I found a spacer and went that route. I looked at every carrier bearing I could find and they all had the same dimensions height wise. |
Re: Project NOT4SLE
Nice progress ! She looks great lowered :metal:

Re: Project NOT4SLE
Had a starting issue with the truck this morning. or this last evening.
i cut my exhaust right in front of the muffler to get my rear suspension on. Well she no longer starts very easy like she used to. i dont get it. i would not think loosing back pressure would make it hard to start but maybe. Last night she started idled for a few seconds then died. would not restart. It has fuel and floats are full. Any ideas? I was thinking a muffler that was flow through but those dont restrict much if that is my problem |
Re: Project NOT4SLE
Just a thought check the grounds
Looks good |
Re: Project NOT4SLE
Lack of back pressure won't cause either situation. If I'm understanding you correctly, it won't start and it hasn't started since it died right? Check your ignition module inside the dizzy or at least check a wire for spark.

i think the lack of back pressure is making it run and start hard. It without a doubt has made the gas mileage drop |
Re: Project NOT4SLE
Three things you must have for an engine to run, fuel, air, spark. Make sure you are actually getting all three before going futher.
Exhaust back pressure can change the tune needed but will not typically cause an engine not to run. I have run open headers without issues. Check all the basics first. Good luck. |

Went out to trouble shoot and the 12 volt wire came off the Dizzy. she fired right up after that. Still runs crappy though |

I know that it is a matter of time with the current motor as it is probably 180k on it and 40 yrs old. Not to mention the tranny lol Well I need to start on the motor route soon. Ill probably patch up the exhaust a bit and then wont get to a motor for awhile. i want to do the front suspension, wheels tires, front sheetmetal and 67 front end, then a few other odds and ends and then the motor. So it is a few months away at a minimum. but it will be a great motor when i head that way. I want to do another truck as well so i was thinking I could build a nice 383 and then keep it for another project if I decide to do a FI motor later for this truck. |

Re: Project NOT4SLE
Well I'm a big fan of the 383's :D
Alot of guys are doing to the LSx motors with fuel injection and overdrives but I love the old school stuff. I'll leave the 402 in mine but I'm gonna toss some mods in it soon. |
Re: Project NOT4SLE
I wanted to add a muffler to the truck as I chopped the exhaust off when I lowered it.
Got a flowmaster from a buddy he had laying around and got her fabbed up. It is fabbed in a way that you would be scared to know who did it. LOL but it will work till I finalize building a small block, big block, LS motor for the truck. So many freaking ideas, and so little money to fund them all. HAHAHAHA not to mention I wanted to double check nuts and bolts For ease of not doing an LS install it would be obvious to swap in a 383 stroker as it will drop right in with minimal changes. the big block will take a little more, and an LS motor even more. So what do you think about this small block idea??? :metal: http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...00114-1713.jpg |
Re: Project NOT4SLE
I love the twin turbo idea, I've been kicking that idea around for awhile now. My money has to get other things done on the truck first. But someday I hope to hang a couple hair dryers like that. :metal:
|
Re: Project NOT4SLE
If i had a twin turbo SBC in my garage, it would not take long to install.
|
Re: Project NOT4SLE
I'll tell you what I think, I think you're going to need some meats on the rear.
|
Re: Project NOT4SLE
I LOVE THE IDEA!!!!! two huffers, oh yeah, nothin better than the sound of a tubo spooling up getting ready to lay down some serious pwer!

Re: Project NOT4SLE
Got home from work today, through the truck up on jackstands and decided to get to work on getting the front end done.
I think cleaning and refurbishing the parts not being replaced will take longer then anything else. A lot of dirt, rock, concrete type stuff on it all over. LOL I am hoping to be done by Friday. http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1093.jpg http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1090.jpg http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1094.jpg http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1096.jpg http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1097.jpg http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1098.jpg |

I think just getting all the caked on mud stuff off will be a world of difference, not to mention getting new steering components |
Re: Project NOT4SLE
Right on! Are you planning on shooting any paint on the frame after things are cleaned up or is that in the future.

Re: Project NOT4SLE
Love the build man, like the fact that you plan on it being a daily driver. Keep rockin, and can't wait to see the front suspension done.

Re: Project NOT4SLE
A few quick pictures of the res of the truck. Finished taking it all apart. Started oven cleaning and pressure washing all the control arms and I found out I need a bead blaster lol
The drivers side upper ball joint was still riveted to the control arm so it was an original. http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1112.jpg http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1113.jpg http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1114.jpg http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1116.jpg http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1119.jpg http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/o...p/IMG_1117.jpg |

Re: Project NOT4SLE

Re: Project NOT4SLE
I think he has to keep it together to drive it.
At least the control arms can be taken somewhere and blasted easy enough. |

Re: Project NOT4SLE
Looking good! Dont you love all the work we have to do to just prep something to go back together! :metal: But I guess thats what gives us the pride and joy of having these trucks and knowing we know every square inch of them. Tell Bonnie to get her cluckin bum off the wheel and help you clean up some. She may be a guest but nothing comes free now adays.

Re: Project NOT4SLE
Sweet progress....I see Bonni supervised this work!!!:haha:
