No bodydrop, just an aftermarket raised front crossmember kit to lay frame. The body on these trucks sit down over the frame rails so the pich welds are almost even with the bottom of the frame.

cool thanks! So did you have to re-enforce your fenders being that you took out the inner fenders?

Oh this front, you guys that dont live in snow country really have it nice!

Winter brings so many considerations to the table when it comes to these old rigs, not the least of which are loose gravel from road sanding, and idiot drivers that dont realize that 2k pounds of metal, glass, plastic, volitile fuel, and human bodies all zinging along on 4 donuts of air filled rubber takes some thought and skill when doing 40 to 60 mph on a sheet of ice....

Seems like as soon as more than an inch of snow lays on the ground, red lights at intersections just become "suggestions" to some of these retards.

Obviously not the conditions you want to be driving something you really care about out into.

Creep... totally dig your art work man, just saw it over on Vs page!
If it werent for the nudity and obvious copyright issues I would post more of mine. But I have to keep the decorum yanno?

Re: '63 GMC Project

Thanks! I know what you mean about the winter drivers. They either act like they have never driven in snow or they act like there isn't any snow on the ground at all.

Since my 63 is stashed for the winter I decided to start a new truck project...

...gonna try to make a replica of my truck out Hot Wheels using 2 '62 C10s and 1 '64 GMC panel.

Here's where I got with it today...

Ohhh yes!! Sooo much better without those big mirrors. One of the first things that I have done when I got mine.
Man the engine looks freaking awesome! Great job!
Btw very original shift knob! :)

Again love your progress! Great job homie!

Tomorrow I'm gonna go find some paint and maybe another Hot Wheels (or similar scale ) with white walls to use. I was planning on using the hood from the GMC panel but it is slightly wider and I don't think I want to mess with it that much.

Wow, awesome little hot wheels project and a great truck that you are building. It was great to see that you got into the Classic Trucks Magazine! Keep up the cruising and shows and working on your truck. Of course, if I ever get a truck project up here in Alaska, it will be 4X4 and going up, not lower.... hard to drive a low riding truck on our ice road (frozen Kuskokwim River)....but I enjoy reading about yours, so keep up the great job!

Thanks! Lifted trucks are cool too. Someday I'd like to have one but I'd probably just embarrass myself every time I got in or out of the thing.

hey bro can you remind me of what your running for a couple small details..

EDC? (I have two viair comps but not sure where I want to locate them)
Tank? (size and location?)
what is the bolt on rear bag mount kit you have? and what type of front bags?

I've been driving Belle around a lot lately, put about 60 miles on her yesterday and the texas rake is killing me. time to bag her already :D hoping to have her laid out before the first show this spring.

I have a 5 gallon tank mounted at the rear of the frame between the rails and a Viair 480 on the outside of the frame rail. The rear is a Superlift wishbone kit from Quality Air Ride (formerly *****************). The notches, upper shock mount bar and axle tabs still need welded but everything else bolts on. I am using Airlift Dominators all the way around.

Here's a pic of the bed. You can see the tank and mount we made right in front of the tailgate.

I like the die-cast cars/trucks too. A friend mine takes them apart and customizes them too. He's a hot-wheels junkie

I painted the Hot Wheels today. It came out OK I guess. I don't have a very steady hand when it comes to holding a paintbrush. The cell phone pics are kinda grainy so I'll try to get some better shots with a real camera.

We call this the Beast.
Short bed fleetside.
9" lift, 62" tires, SBC 350, 4x4 (just had new hubs put in last summer) Posi rear (will look at the gears next summer when I am home).

We got it because our 14 acres is 6 miles from the nearest paved road, and we get 4feet of snow in the winter up (down?) there.

Awesome fun truck to drive.
Is nice to be able to look truckers in the eye at stoplights ;)

creep 01-07-2012 02:32 PM

Re: '63 GMC Project

Thanks guys, and yes the patina was done with a brush.

The Beast looks killer! Just about the perfect amount of lift and the tires fit the lift perfectly, in my opinion.:metal:

I don't remember where I found this one. I think it was Stylin' Trucks facebook page but I'm not sure. It was taken at a show they had in their parking lot. The red Sonoma next to my truck belongs to my friend.

I've changed the corner marker since to a light with a black bucket.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a91...p/0006252c.jpg

Haven't really touched the van for over a year. It needs reprimered/sealed and cleaned up, the wheels look horrible now. May get them and the grille powdercoated satin black. I also have a solid slider and a set of dutch doors for it if I ever get motivated.

I got the markers off ebay. Not the highest quality but I haven't had any problems with them. I don't think they're actually legal because they don't have reflectors in them but I've never been hassled by the police about them and I also have the same style on my daily driver S10. Where did you see my van before? Indy ITB maybe? astrosafri.com?

Thanks! The brake system is a CPP unit. The mounting bracket is from Captainfab here on these forums. I would think it would work on a 65. It came with brackets but they didn't fit my truck because the 63 GMC cab has extra holes drilled to use a 62 style hydraulic clutch.

I got mine from classiparts.com. They have different units for different applications. Mine is set up for 4 wheel disc brakes. The proportioning valve comes attached to the booster with a bracket.

Thanks man! I'm guessing you mean the rear of the van? I switched to a single steel leaf spring and a flip kit with an Airlift Ride Rite set. It was only going to be temporary but it's been about 6-7 years now. It rides like crap and doesn't give as much drop as I would like. I still plan on getting some sort of 4 link and a notch eventually. How about some pics of your van?

Not really. Just started driving it again now that the weather is getting nicer. I did have to fix one of my airlines going to the gauges because the fuse for the fan melted and got the line hot enough to cause a small hole in it. Still need to rewire the fans though. While the weather is nice this week I'm going to try to get it to an exhaust shop and get that finished up.
