Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Perfect....thanks buddy! Appreciate you going to all the trouble. Makes me not fear the 6" bs now. Almost wish it were more now, cause now wondering how close to the outside fender lip an 8.5" wide wheel with 6" bs will come. But this gives me a great idea of what to expect. Seriously appreciate it!

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
....so, the way I have it roughly figured out...........my 6" bs 20x8.5" wheels should technically sit inboard of the outside edge of the fender just shy of 3/4" more than yours do. Will have to figure this out again tomorrow when I have more sleep and less beer....but if I have this somewhat correct, I should be golden.

Haha hell yea.

Great paint work and that console is killer! Keep up the great work.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Gauges from Classic Instruments arrived the other day. Could not ask for better guys to deal with so far. Had a million questions and some custom requests that they did without question. I looked at a crap load of gauges, and asked allot of questions to boot, and it all came down to Classic Instruments. Prices were similar with some, but the customer service was the clincher for me. Service doesn't get any better with these guys, hands down.
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psd68705e3.jpg Decided against changing the chrome to black as I had originally chose to do, cause I thought the black might eventually look poor with use and cleaning. So chose to go with a brushed look. I will be keeping some other small brushed items to tie it all in when all said and done. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps2353ff1c.jpg Had a couple small fitment issues, but ended up being the chevy pods being a tiny bit out of round. Nothing serious though. Going to try and have them all wired up in the next couple days once I decipher the gauge cluster wiring harness. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps7ed6a6e9.jpg |

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Been working on building the wiring harness for the gauges, and installing them, and so on and so on....time consuming but they are in and to stay in at this point for the last time. Nice to finally see some progress as alot of the stuff I've been doing lately hasn't shown much visual pleasure....lmao.
Anyways....on with the show. GM weather pack connectors to add ease of dissasembly if needed along the way, and looks much cleaner when done. These shots are half way through so alot cleaner now by a long shot. Used all the factory wiring in the original harness that I could and wrapped all up in the main harness as well. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psd6c99db0.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psb61215a3.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps1fc6d651.jpg Speedo wiring through the original firewall grommet. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psfce02b6b.jpg My pet....at home and awaiting my children as prey. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psdb6671ee.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps805e5b8c.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psbf599ce8.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps8c393466.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psdc856a75.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps9e270ff7.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps6e2f50e8.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...pscfbb24a3.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps4f946290.jpg Still have to tie into the oil pressure switch/gallery as I found that the TBI engines have a fuel cut off tied into the stock one, and won't run without it so I'm told. So going to buy a T and a new factory pressure switch tomorrow as I had to cut the factory one out before it snapped off in the block. Progress....slow, but progress non the less. |

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
That looks cool....I did notice something though. Your speedo has a 'K' instead of 'M' PH.... Just messin'. I love the look of the interior all put together.
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
That looks awesome! Great work and I like the gauges you chose as well!
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Thanks guys, ya...I think the interior is coming along now. Think I am sticking with the buckets front and rear....I just need to decide if I am going to dye them to match or not. Thinking I will and then look at recovering next winter.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Ok, well........got into doing the sender for the oil pressure gauge, and bit more involved than I had even comprehended at first. Never really thought about it till I got into it. Being that this is a TBI engine the original oil pressure sender is a 3 wire setup and has a fuel pump cut off switch built in as a back up of sorts to the fuel pump relay.
So, for anyone else that is trying this.....the three wires Orange: to ECM, Tan/white: to fuel pump, Tan: to oil pressure gauge. Cut the tan wire from factory harness, pull back through harness a few inches or so and install to new electric gauge bell sender and plug factory harness back into factory sender. You need to keep both senders, and as seen in pictures below this is how I managed to do it. Keep in mind that the factory sender is around a 3/8" diameter threads, and the rest is around 1/4"...so a regular T will not work and I could not track down what I needed locally, so....as my grandfather used to say "what would you do if you were stranded in the bush"...lmao. You make it work. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psf9dc920d.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps12aafd45.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...pse5fc1758.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps76768856.jpg I should note that I didn't end up using the long extension on the side, it ended up being to long and hit the valve cover. I just used a male 45 degree fitting and all worked well. Use thread tape, and I removed the distributor as well to ease the job considerably. Be careful when removing the factory ones as the "stem" that is vertical from the block WILL bust off on you if you are not careful. Most are only made of brass so the side torque will snap them off. I honestly cut my sender off then removed the stem as I was sure it was going to snap with the torque required to remove the sender. Lesser evil in my mind..but you make the choice what you would rather do. Luckily I have a few parts trucks laying around and just robbed one from another truck. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psee8e0134.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps9053439d.jpg Truck fired up with 60psi oil pressure and runs/starts great. Guess it worked....hahaha. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps1a21d7c2.jpg |

It's always something isn't it!?? Good work on getting it to work!

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Ya.... Seems like it. But I've always figured that what makes you a good mechanic, or whatever is the fact that you can roll with the punches and/or fix your mistakes.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Cool project. I love the crew cabs. I am considering doing one in the future. You flipped the axle, Are you planning on c notching the frame? I ask because I am going to flip my axle, but don't want to notch the frame unless I have to.
Your dash and console have turned out very nice. It looks perfect in that truck. |

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Well, any progress is good progress I guess. Picked up a heavy duty reciever hitch the other day and decided to swap out the rear member/hitch I had previously installed already, and now I think I have room for my blazer tank as well. Hitch is welded up, and placed in rough position, now to fab up some brackets for the tank straps and install the tank.
Doors are blocked out, box is back sitting in place AGAIN for the 100th time. Had changed my mind once again about wheels and was going to swap back to a dually....but after all my research and talking with a few companies....F that! 5G just to run semi wheels is a bit ridiculous to me...but, regardless just can't justify them on this budget. So back to smoothies again....rear diff narrow going to begin soon as well. Just need to get my rear wheels home first. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
I thought I was sub'd to this thread, I guess not! Anyways, I'm really digging your truck! Can't wait to see it all painted up and put together,

Donor tank is in, hitch is in, just have to run fuel lines then I can remove my saddle tank. Also figured out a set of factory used shocks to use on the back.....Used a set off the rear of a 7 passenger Toyota Sienna of all things. Just had to drill out the 1/2" mounting holes to 9/16 in the shocks and bam....good to go.
Though with the tank relocation also comes the relocation of the passenger inboard shock mounts. Pie cut and adjusted the factory upper mount, then mounted it to the frame parallel from the drivers side. Will see how it works. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
What's the latest with this one?

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Not a pile this summer, been busy picking up old cars and dragging them home, selling them to make some extra cash to attempt to build a shop in the spring and raise some project $$$.
That being said I've hauled home a 59 2dr ht, 60 convertible, 65SS, 65 2dr, 66ss coupe, 66ss convertible impala's, an arctic cat (71) mini bike, 26 Chevy rat in a box (lol) truck, and another 89 crew cab 4x4 Chevy. Bought myself a flat deck trailer, redid it all and added a 9500lb winch, a 1969 ski doo Olympic, and a whack of impala and Chevelle parts including 12 bolt rears etc. Just sold the 59 impala on eBay and it went to Kansas City this morning. 60 vert might be going the same direction in a few weeks. If you want some pics of all my summer finds for the heck of it....look up "Salem's Lot" on Facebook and look for an orange colored avatar. Some sweet finds this year...been a good stretch. So no....not a lot accomplished on the CCSB 2wd project. Hahahahaa |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Can someone post the name of the company that makes those steelie wheels?

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

I'm tossing around the idea of changing back to a dually, and doing a set of 22" alcoa mega hole wheels. Just not sure what is involved yet, haven't had any time this summer to research it. I picked up another 4x4 crew so don't need two SRW crews....what's the point....hahaha. Plus picked up a short box 2wd fleet for parts, a K5 4x4 again, and still have my K5 2wd that has yet to seal its fate. Any good links that you know are "good builds" to base my semi wheel swap research from to save a guy some time? Should be able to get on it soon for a solid while......winter is setting in now. Oh....and I guess got a singel shift rod NV3500 for her as well. She's not going to do any crazy hauling, just a flat deck car hauler with my 65 SS impala in tow, or possibly my 28' camper. Should be perfectly fine I think as long as I don't try racing with a load on. |

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps335a057e.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps458769d1.jpg Not a pile of progress this summer....been busy flipping cars to raise money for my own projects. Also picked up another CC 4x4..this one is going nowhere! Been searching for one since I sold my last one....never again. Working on dually wheel dilema right now, and trying to find the information needed to be sure I know what has to change once again to install either semi wheel conversion, or direct bolt on 20's. Frustrating.... |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Have you tried duallyscene.com? I'm not a member there but I knew a guy that liked lowered Chevy duallies that was on that site and liked it.
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
checked out a few builds over there, but not much action going on over there.
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Nice to see you working back on the truck! The dually would be cool. Might cost more for wheels and adapters and such though.
|
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Duallyscene = slo-mo.
