I don't have enough cheddar left to afford that this time around. Is it bad that I'm already thinking about what I want to do in a few years when I pull it apart again to paint it?

I think they're going for $1099 right now. Go to porterbuiltfabrication.com

The carrier bearing I used did not need to be shimmed. The base was taller then the oe one I took out. CPP has a billet one they sell. 67cheby has it on his. My buddy has a Mallory small cap hei with the remote power box. Should make good on that tight space you have there.

First of all, there's no way I'm pulling the motor out to change the distributer. Second, does your buddy have a big block in his? Mine is the MSD pro billet with mechanical advance, I didn't think they got much smaller.
As far as the carrier goes, I'll have to look into that. However, isn't CPP the company people keep complaining about getting their parts so late? If it is, with my luck, I'm going to need to find somewhere else. I could be getting them confused with another company though.

No you got it right... It's them. Lol.

My buddy is running that cap in a 57 with a big block. I know they are diff trucks I just know that cap frees up a bit of space. I will be switching to one when I work on my nova.

Looks wicked!! Excellent work. I'm curious about your steering shaft. Nate told me that in order to run headers with a big block I would need to split the shaft and run a third knuckle as well as an idler to keep everything in check. I notice your only running two. Did you do something different?

inland empire driveline in ontario california actually makes that billet and polyurethane carrier bearing you guys are talking about, that cpp sells. you can go on their website and also give them a cal,l and probably might be able to save some headache on the whole deal getting it directly from the manufacturer

I didn't do anything special. Maybe its the headers I'm using that gives it the room?

Nate recommended them too. I'll probably hit them up today. Thanks.

He cut that crap out lol. if you go to a painless harness or a similar brand, you can run the wire by the rad for a cleaner look, Thats what I did...

Most of was junk I don't need like AC, blower motor, coil/distributer, windshield washer motor, one wire alt, headlights...crap...guess I better connect that last one back up:lol:. Believe it or not, just re-routing will clean it up a ton.

67cheby, thanks man. I think I need to do the same thing. Otherwise it seems like the driveshaft is pointed down too much coming out of the tranny.

I dunno, I'm still waiting on my parts from Nate. Once they get here I'll check it out. The headers I chose are from a 67-69 camaro. What are yours?

You have no idea how big of an accomplishment this is for me. This is the biggest wiring job I've EVER done. The blinkers/lights work, starter works, and the alternator is wired.

Decided to take a break from wiring and put the shifter in today. I still need to do the carpet before it completely done. I really like the shifter.

I know. I have to be in the right mindset to do electrical because it requires thinking for me. Metal working/mechanical stuff doesn't require much thinking for me. Before getting to work on the Burb yesterday I mowed/weedwacked my half acre in the 107 degree heat which pretty much ruined my motivation for the day. I was lucky I even got the shifter done yesterday:lol:. I'm going to wire the fuel pump, ignition box, and fans today though since my "chores " are done.

Well today SUCKED! I was making a bracket to mount my coil with the grinder with a cutoff wheel on it. Well the blade caught and ripped the grinder out of my hand. Unfortunately my knee was there to stop it as it jumped away. Two hours later I have 2 layers of stitches (4 on the bottom and 7 on the top). Definitely my worst wrenchin' injury.

Re: 72 Suburban Build

damn! that does suck!

had a similar injury last year..grinder got caught as i was cutting out my rocker panel..kicked back and hit me in the face! cut my chin and broke my tooth...i feel your pain!

That sux Chief..... I think we've all been there at some point. It's the hazards of metal work. I can't count how many times I've been a victim of the cut-off wheel.

They should make some kinda safety guard... Oh wait they do. That's that big chunk I take off and throw away, when I get a new grinder.

Get well, and heal up.

Same thing I do to. You HAVE to, otherwise you leave like 40% of useful blade. Plus you can't get into most spots with it.

I think I need to buy a new grinder. This one has been bad luck. The first one happened a month or so ago while I was working on the firewall. The paint removing wheel caught the only freakin' wire that I had coming through the firewall. It wrapped the wire around the spindle, seized the wheel,'ripped the grinder out of my hand which then spun around at 4,000,000 rpm (at least that's what it felt like) and hit my hand like 3 or 4 times. Still not sure if it broke my hand or not. The second 2 are from last night's festivities.
