came back from taking my cousin home and just a few houses over from him is a 60-63, i'm thinking its a 60-61! its a long bed big window with the side trim that shaped like a sided ways j ! told him to talk to the guy for me when he gets home, going to try and see if he's willing to sell it! looks good from a distance, i havent got up close to it, but i just need some parts! and i could make my money back selling some stuff!! if the guy is willing to sell it then i'll get some more pictures!! i also seen two 64-66 trucks and a panel while i was taking him home! maybe tomorrow i'll try to get some pictures, the two truck are behind a fence but the panel is by the road!! i thinking of trying to buy some of them to sell the parts i dont need to fund this project! the wife just told me she will be having to look for a new job the place she worked for will be closing there doors soon, so it dont look good for the truck being done anytime soon! good thing is she can get unemployment and make almost what she was making, no more babysitter, lol!!

well i got my door panels painted, now i'll get all the blue parts together shoot them one last time so they are all the same shape atleast! then i'll put on about three coats of clear over the metallic blue and call it good!

i got a tote with molasses/water 12:1 ratio, 12 parts water 1 part molasses, got about 5 gals total made up and a few parts from my heater in it because i couldnt get to the inside of the part that goes up under the dash and wanted to see how this mix would work out! plus the mix is good for 8-12 months, so i dont got anything to lose, it will just take a few days to a week to see what happens!!

anyways heres the pictures of my inner door panels! dont be shy, let me know what you think! first picture has my shadow shading it, second picture shows more of the color! the color i'm painting all these stuff is Dupli-color perfect match, light blue metallic (21 wa7470)

thanks flips for the comments! i'm still not to sure on the rims, been thinking about 6 lug truck rally rims and just having the two for the back widened and have 15x7's or 15x8's for the front! been thinking without the beauty rings and painting them silver like the other stuff i'm going to start painting!!

i did hear some good news about my wifes job! they are getting a severance package and she is getting some more money from the union so that will cut are bills in half and i will get to spend more money on my truck! which means my truck will get done my the due date that i set for it, which is march 18 2013, my sons 3rd. b-day!

i'll have an update this weekend, the molasses is working really good, i'm just going to let the parts sit for another day! then friday i'll take them out and clean them up and show yall what they look like now forgot to get before pics, but yall know what 46 yr. old parts look like!! anyways more this weekend!!

thanks alan, that means alot coming from you! your truck is just awesome with alot of detail and info. and your always willing to help if you can!

well i started to get the mess out of my cab (mostly tools and truck parts) to start getting ready to do the big back window next weekend and would you know it it started to rain!! so this pay day im just going to get a few totes and just throw everything inside the cab in them and then i can just take the totes out throw them in the back of the bee then i do the conversion!! i also was looking at my truck and got my other set of rear wheel tubs out and over to my truck so i can start on those too!! theres a thread on here that shows how to cut the steel floor ribs and to make them somewhat nice when you widen the tubs! i got to do some more looking at that thread and then i'll go cut my steel floor up!!

the molasses stuff is working great and since i only get o work on it on the weekends i brought my bumper brackets home to throw in the molasses and let soak for a week then i'll take the wire wheel to them and paint them, speaking of bumpers, i got to still weld the bolts to the front bumper, and i still need to do my roll pan and bumper idea!

ANYWAYS today is easter and since i got a three yr. old girl and a two yr. old boy i got to hide easter eggs today, so to all that read this today that have kids HAPPY EASTER!!

Hey Chad, I am new to the forum, I started reading about your build yesterday, spent all afternoon at it! I just picked up my 66 a few weeks ago, not really sure where to start, mostly plan to drive it and enjoy it this summer, and upgrade things mechanically as I go.

Thanks markeb01, I just bought it 3 weeks ago. the last owner put less than 4000 miles on it in the last 25 years! It was titled in Arizona before that, truck is very solid, no perforation anywhere, surface rust only. I want to lower the front 2-1/2", upgrade to discs on the front, add power steering, a 5 speed, or an overdrive... I could go on and on I guess. Nice GMC, they are pretty rare!

thanks guys for the comments, its just a series of things that are happening all at once! i started to have to work an extra day every week, my moms lawyer is a *********!! he keeps making up stories, we've gone an talked to another lawyer last week and they said to give him two weeks to solve the case or he would take the case! the one day i do get off it has been raining, and etc etc!! so i figured i would take a step back and get a few things taking care of, then get back to the truck! i'll still get on every now and then but not as much as i have been! i got to keep up with what you guys are doing!

well a lil update! might be later for any updates but will try to do something to the truck anyways! i found out today that i will be working 6 days a week for the next 10 or 11 weeks! so i guess i will have to update my thread with " see what i bought pictures"' lol!! hoping to have some pictures this next week or so! i did start on the rear wheel tubbing, well one side of the floor is almost done, i didnt take all the tools with me that i needed so i didnt finish! i still have to cut the tubs and weld them back together and then move to the other side, i do have some pictures of that so i'll post them! the wheel tubs need some work but they will work i did some measuring again and they will be 4 1/4" wider and then the whole bed will be covered with bedliner of some kind!

i dont plan on narrowing this rearend, but i do have another rearend that has 3.08 gears, that i can narrow!! i will get some picture of how wide the back tires are before i started tubbing it, there wasnt either room to but even a finger between the tire and the inside of the wheelwell tub! i'll have to check what the backspacing is too, they have enough offset and look great!!

Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70

i have been looking for some 6lug truck rallys, well i started talking to this guy at work about my truck!! the guy bought a 65 with some new parts, new front fenders and new wood floor and some other stuff still in the boxes, but only bought the truck for the motor, he's a 67-72 guy! i'm going to talk him into letting me go look at the stuff and the rims! he only wants $30 for a set of rally rims with the beauty rings, but said if anyone else wanted them it would be $100-150! so i guess thats a good thing!! i'll ask him tonite and maybe go look at it in a few days i hope!! i'll find out how much he wants for the whole truck too! when i go look at it i will get some pictures, i will be selling what i dont need, if he dont want much for the truck that is!!

Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70

well he wasnt there sunday night and but he was there last night! i asked him how much he wants for the whole truck and what else he had for it! i havent gone to look at the truck yet but will, he wants $1200 for the whole truck with everything he got with it! then started telling me what he has; its got new front fenders, new wood floor, stainless strips and bolts, the body is very straight with ever little bondo, new bench seat, new glass all the way around, all the gaskets for the whole truck, and the icing on the cake; buddy seats that need to be recovered and the foam is in good shape, the cab itsnt rusted out! the frame was cut and has a oldsmobile cutlass frontend and a olds 455, but he is taking the motor! the guy he got it from didnt know anything about trucks and it was his brothers project before something happened to him and he just didnt want it around the house anymore! but anyways i'll try to get some pictures when i go look at it!

i think if i sold what i didnt need that i would make enough money back to finish my interior, brakes and get my wiring harness atleast!! then all i would have left is the motor! i would have liked it more if the frame was left alone, then i would have another project truck that wouldn't need much to finish it! after i go look at it, i will deside if i just want some parts or the whole thing!

Chad!
Two things...

1 - you are killing us! How did you make out with that parts truck find???

2 - How did you find that molasses water mixture to work for rust removal? I have heard and read about how effective it is, wondering what your experience was like...

Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70

ok ok! well he was on a 3 day vacation, but was at work last night and we made plans to go look at it monday mourning! he lives 30 miles the other way from work, so it would be about 55-60 mile from my house to his, so i'll go after i go in to work sunday night! he said something about its his and his brothers!! i'll find out about a final price for it or just that parts i want! which i wanted the fenders, tailgate, the gaskets, and the buddy bucket seats, i seen some pictures and its in the same shape as mine but a long bed! but i'll know more monday i guess, lol!! i did find some seats on craigslist i'm going to get tuesday if they still have them, its a 60/40 split bench seat from a 90's model truck for a $100 i'll post a picture in a bit of that too!!

ok about the molassses it has worked pretty good, i was impressed really! i got all my bumper brackets soaking right now but for got to take any before picture, then again you all know what 48 year old rusted parts look like! i went with a 10:1 ratio 10 parts water to 1 part molasses! i went to farmers co-op and got a gal. of food grade molasses for like $10 and only used 8-10 oz. i think so far! it works better if you stir it everyday so it dont settle and is good for 8-12 months! it does smell strong my wife dont like it at ALL!! it dont bug me to much, its biodegradeable too so it wont hurt anything either!!

i do have my ash tray that i was soaking that i'll post in a bit after i take the picture, another thing it will flush rust, so i think maybe some clr or something like that and some acetone or paint thinner to clean it then paint it after that! which i'll paint it with some high temp clear if the rust comes off again, it came out pretty good too!

CRGRS 66 05-06-2012 11:59 AM

Re: my '64 c-10 swb project with steel floor from a '70

It will start to grow surface mold in 2-3 weeks though. Not sure if stirring it will help prevent this....

yes mcmurphy your right with will grow a skip of mold if your not stirring it!

while i dont know whats going on with the truck the guy from work has!! now says he needs to still find out what his brother wants to do, says he wants $1200 all up front for everything, but he's not to sure about parting it out!! i dont know if i want the whole thing cause i dont need another project with this one not even done yet!!

im going to try to go look at it tomorrow but we will see what happens!!
