At a minimum, rebuild the carb. It is probably gummed up inside, valves sticking some, and those leakey gaskets..... I am not an expert with them, but those old 1bbl carbs are pretty easy to rebuild. Check around were the throttle rod(?) runs into the caarb and make sure the hole is not to wallowed out as then you may need another carb.

Glad to see you're taking the time to do it right, even if it means backtracking on previous progress. That's what the really good builders do. I think you'll feel a lot better about the end product.

Hello everyone, I hate to admit it but I screwed up. The panel that I just put on the tailgate didn't quite workout the way I wanted, I tried to keep as much of the original metal as possible but ended up messing up the line because some of it was new and some of it was the old metal and the bends didn't line up correctly. I wanted it to be right so out came the angle grinder with cut off wheel. I then made a new panel and made it go down the same amount all the way across. Got it welded on but still need to grind the welds down. I'm very satisfied with it now it's pretty much perfect.

The old panel ripped off

Thanks, yes I'm very glad that I redid it and took the time to plan it out the second time.

Just took the welds down. I'm glad that I took the time to make the panel even and flush. The seem is super smooth and I can't even feel the seam when I run my finger across it.

Just finished the fan base. Lots of filing and sanding resulted in the the areas replaced with fibreglass looking like they were meant to be. Then threw some paint on. I'll put it all back together tomorrow and put in the new switch.

Oh yeah I also ordered new rear cab supports and they should be here tomorrow or Sunday.

Then I started to work on the rocker panel. I got this one for free from someone that messed it up. For some reason they cut out the front section of it

Oh and today I found out that I got the wrong slip yoke. The front yoke on the driveshaft is 1350 series and the slip yoke is 1310 series. I'm aware that they make u joints with one end bigger than the other but i think I'll just sell this one and make a couple bucks and then go back to picknpull and pay 7.99 for the right one

Yeah, not sure why but my passenger side is much worse than the drivers side.

The metal mesh makes a little sense but I don't know what they where thinking with the newspaper. Lol maybe he didn't have a garbage bin close by and thought it would be easier to just throw it in the open rocker.

Finished pulling out the passenger rocker today to reveal that the rust on the lower A pillar is much worse than the driver side. The patch panel is over $50 where I live and being on a budget I guess I'm going to build it. Oh well, more practice with metalworking.

That is a whole load of heartache you opened up there, but I am sure you will just get on and do it right,

Well done.

Thanks Rian, your right about the heartache part but I like to look at it as just metal, if lmc makes replacement panels why can't I? It's All about believing I can do it, if I think I can't do it then I probably can't.

Removed the rusted lower door pillar to find even more rust. This is going to be a fun one. Had to use a jack to hold the pillar in place so nothing will move.
