Finished up my coolant hoses, they held 24 in. of vacuum, so that system is good. They wanted 5 gallons of gas to prime fuel system, so I guess he is getting ready to start it up... pics didnt work so youll have to take my word lol

Yes it was, now on to PS can't find the woodruff key and nut to hold the pulley on, I know they are here some where, but where?

Thanks for following all these years, lol

seems like I've gotten more done in the last few months, then I did last winter

Re: PO has me PO'd

OK, today was fuel system, not uneventful, started to put 5 gallons in it, gas can leaked, fixed that and 1/2 gallon went on his floor. No clamps on fuel filler hose, fixed that and put 5 gallon in. Started up the fuel pump and 3 injectors leaked, I'll take the blame for that! pulled the fuel rail, to inspect all the O-rings, installed new o-rings where needed, with a super grease he uses, reinstalled fuel rail w/injectors and it leaked at the fuel gauge, took off my liquid filled gauge and just used shrader valve. adjusted fuel regulater to 50 psi, did some math on his phone, and calculated that I had the right injectors (22 lbs) NO LEAkS

now, just have to figure out why the gauge leaked

Had to wash all my clothes as soon as I got home

Re: PO has me PO'd

OK, so today was exhaust passenger side, needed to be done to put o2 sensor bung in.

Used the factory style separate gaskets, no sealant. Thought I might have a match issues since I have Vortec heads, but using gaskets as a guide, they matched up perfect, forgot my torque wrench, so I'll do it tomorrow when I do the drivers side.

Did run into one issue, of course, the placement of the trans temp. fitting is close to the exhaust pipe, need to relocate, drop pan and find a better location

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...8e943d6e_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2hDhHtx]20191031_141511

found out why they put that bend in the frame fifty years ago... so I could use my march electric water pump mid alternater mount and swing it to get enough tension on the belt.lol

Re: PO has me PO'd

So, yesterday was trans. cooling lines, didn't think they would fit since I changed the cross member. Cut them in half and offered them up, seems they might have fit after all, but for now, I'll just add a piece of rubber hose and clamps. I'll deal with a better fix when I get it in my shop. Seems like we could be close to making noise ( His term)

I may just plug up the trans pan and deal with it later, since it is stopping me from firing up the motor.

These guys have been great to work with, fun shop, with lots of banter back and forth. Dale is just a wealth of information, nice to have someone to bounce your ideas off of and keep me on topic (just focus on what needs to be done to get the engine to run)

got to play with my trans. cooling lines today, didn't think they would fit, so I cut them in half, plan to use compression fittings in 5/16" size, my only problem was my splice was right above my crossmember, made it difficult to work on

start by finger tight, then put a wrench on it after your sure the threads are started correctly

getting ready to make some noise, working on trans. pan as first attempt was wrong. weldable bungs should be here tomorrow, then I can put in sender for the trans. temp unit, and drain plug

jaros44sr 11-08-2019 08:34 PM

Re: PO has me PO'd

second attempt, still wrong as it is in the way of the front drive shaft, now I'm looking at forward or rearward location, we'll see on monday how it works out

Dale told me to keep plugging away, and we should end up being finished at the same time, as I move forward on the brakes and drive shafts, he wants to drive it out of his shop

paint later, drive shaft installed, what a PITA the 4 bolts to the CV joint, upside down and backwards. had to drop exhaust pipe for clearance to work
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9574847f_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2hKo2sG]20191113_133528

seems the forward location was best for the trans. temp. sender, maybe use the bungs for cooling lines later, at least I have a drain plug or two

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0c2aefd3_c.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2hKo2EA]20191113_133617

trans. cooling lines done, fill her up with fluid. picked a rather difficult spot to make splices, right above crossmember

Now, to work on brake lines

thanks for stopping by AJ, its actually fun again, I think buying the Camaro was the best idea, having something fun to drive, while working on the truck.

Yours came out awesome, some miner set backs, but you worked through them

This is exactly why I bought a '65 F100 to putt around in while the K5 was in the body shop.

Re: PO has me PO'd

Today was a rare exception, everything went right. Double flare on the rear axle worked first time, brakes are done, and clamped to the frame rail with totally stainless 3/16" clamps. I'll let them bleed them. 5th or 6th time on the power steering belt tensioned up today, both belts are now done. Just waiting on some parts I lost (u-bolts) for the drive shaft, and PTO cover plate gasket, both found locally. rear diff. cover sealed up, and both shocks are mounted
also mounted the remote tank for the hydro boost

Now its time for some R&R, thanks giving then a florida trip for a week, hope the fish are biting, and not the bugs

Congrats. Doesn't if feel good to get a win. I'm still seeing failed flares in my nightmares. Enjoy your success and your well earned break.

Thank you, and thanks for entertaining me with your two unbelievable builds.

My last flare, I was laying on my creeper upside down and backwards, not seeing clearly as my bifocals were coming in and out of range, working in the dark with a little flashlight, afraid to unclamp the flaring tool.

but to my surprise as I brought it down and looked, it was perfect, sometimes you just get lucky. This truck has fought me every step of the way for over twenty years. This the first day that I have not gone to a shop, or thought about it, in some fashion for that long of a time. I will never modify a project again!

Yeah right, my mind is now drifting to installing a LS engine in a TR-6. That is where my roots started, early english sports cars

But, thanks for stopping by and your kind words, whats up with you and your next project after your break

Sorta like a Caroll Shelby knock off, using a frame from a kit car with corvette suspension

never liked the doors on an AC Cobra, plus my workshop is too small for trucks LOL

Plus tr-6's have flat panels on the bonnet and rear deck to widen the body

Yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment

Re: PO has me PO'd

When I returned from Florida (83 degrees and sunny all week) This what Dale had accomplished. I finished the work on the drive shaft and PTO cover. Now I have to build a bracket for the trans dip stick since it sits to close to the firewall

found out that 2 of the holes are blind, in the T/C so, had to come up with a 1/4" shorter bolts, they are the 2 bolts towards the drive shaft

He doesn't like to mount the air temp. sensor in the plenum as it will see heat and throw off the readings, so, later on I will mount it in the air cleaner somehow
