Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
possmgut your really kickin but on that truck.
it wasnt too bad looking when you first got it but your really showing us what we couldnt see. keep it up. i'll be doing most of the same patch work as econman on this cab i just picked up to build for my 4x4. yesterday i figured before the snow came i would hit a few jys in the area too see if anything new came in....no trucks but i did find a good light harness off a 71-2 smashed front clip since it was only part of a harness i got it for $4. when i got the 4x4 it only had 2-3 lugs on each wheel so i got 32 matching lugs and a set of 67-68 c30 emblems. and another vac advance mech for the kids truck.it seems he needs one once a year idk why it keeps going out and creating a vac leak. of course i came back and put my lugs on to go for a short ride around town in my pile. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Installed the washer reservoir and bracket that I recently bought. Cleaned up the valve cover, cleaned my air box, found the float on the fuel sender to be full of fuel, adjusted the rocker arms, oh...and installed new seat belts. Passenger seat belt was literally hanging on by a thread.
Ordered a new valve cover gasket and fuel float thing. |

Replaced all 6 cab mounts. My jack wasn't high enough for the two under the radiator but my engine hoist got it lifted just enough to swap out the worn mounts.
Hooked up the heater hoses to see if the heater core leaked... And what would you expect? It leaked... Then followed it up by not popping the cap off the radiator before popping the heater hose off the manifold  |

Played with aluminum tubing today. This was my first attempt ever bending he stuff. Turned out pretty good I think. A tip for those ever wanting to try this. A bend consumes 1 1/4" of tubing in a 90* bend. I assume different benders differ. I'm waiting on a ridged bender to come then I'll tackle the front lines.

Hello, looks like everyone is busy on the truck, me too. I got the front sway bar installed. Used all grade 8 bolts and nylon nuts. Took her out for a ride and my grin got bigger, handles great.
Next is tackling the leaky oil pan, then...on and on.:smoke: Tom |

I removed the drive shaft to change the U-joints and found that the bolt on the front shaft that holds the yoke for the second shaft had backed out and the threads are damaged on both the shaft and bolt. It has been rattling around trapped by the U-joint for a while.:( I also got my new gauges almost done.Still need the Trans Temp gauge.Attachment 1491537

Patina trucks call for patina parts....installed UOS (Used Old Stock) dash pad (wish I had taken a before pic....) and accomplished quite a bit of buff/wax on the interior. PROGRESS!! Note the factory "orange peel" paint finish to the right of the center dash vent.
Supposed to be 70 and sunny on Sat and Sunday here in southwest OK.... sounds like more PROGRESS!! |

Still have some dirty work to get done. This truck was just about at the "more than I'm capable of accomplishing" point for me because I have to hire out my welding, but it came w/such a strong provenenance and was such a good deal, that it was hard for me to not buy it. For the welders out there, anyone need some practice? |

Looks great! Really inspiring me to do mine. I have some overspray from a rattle can used to paint a camper shell by PO. Would you wet-sand that or maybe just use acetone first? |
