Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Replaced my burned out dome light bulb. My guess is it was original to the truck and lasted so long because it almost never got used. Then a few months ago I installed door jamb switches, and daily use took its toll. Thankfully Napa still carries the correct bulb, part # LMP 6451.

Media blasted my tail gate and bed steps. Blasting... what a nasty job.... but it sure makes crusty parts look so much better! Tailgate needs some rust repair.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Gave up on my toggle switch operated back up lights, and installed a shifter mounted switch instead. One of those 30 minute projects that turns into a “3 hour tour”. Like so many aftermarket parts the Hurst switch bracket didn’t fit. The offset in the bracket placed the switch completely beyond the reverse lever on the shifter. After some figuring I determined the correct position for the switch was directly centered under the upper mounting hole. After some cutting and drilling it fit perfectly. I have to admit it’s pretty nice having “automatic” back up lights controlled by the shifter.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Here you go. I bought mine through Amazon. I found a few places a couple dollars cheaper, but not after the shipping was added. I just bought another couple bucks of stuff and got the free shipping:

Today I picked up the 5 rims from the painter. I was like a kid in a candy store. As soon as I got home I mounted a cap on them and snapped this pic. Now I can dream of what they look like. Next week I'll transfer the tires and have then rebalanced whoo hoo. When the painter is ready, I'll mask off the GMC on the caps so he can paint the Canyon Blue vs. the red. I won't be 100% auth., but I'd like the blue vs. the red on the caps.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
There's a mention in my parts book of hupcaps with blue centers, any info on these?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
My daughter and I went and picked up a 67-72 box for our race trucks then went back to Classic Auto Recycling to find a better motor mount for her 1960 GMC 261 that is going side mount because of the turbo 350 trans mount is in the rear.We found a 250 6 cly mount that will fit one side(with work) and we will make the other side to match.

I've heard that too, But I believe it was the darker Varsity Blue, or along those lines. I'm going to match the canyon he shot last week. OH I can't harly wait. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Perhaps chrome hubcaps were painted a different color, but my last remaining original 1960 GMC cap was painted blue and white:

There has always been a bit of confusion on what was the correct style and color of the caps. Based on the early photo ads by GMC. Like below you can see the Two-Tone has the dress up package of chrome bumpers and chrome caps. While next to it the painted bumpers has the painted caps. Based on early pictures, the caps that were photographed on the first models were the '59 caps, with teh raised ribs. these came chrome and white paint both with "accent color of red and blue. GMC must have been lagging behind in getting a "New Style" for the new model year roll out. In the GM Photo store is a Red and White 1960 truck (which is the paint pattern I'm doing) you can see the chrome caps (however, I don't know if this is a restored truck or original?)
BUT Arthur Throckmorton has done an outstanding job of trying to get pictures of the correct caps for the differrent years. They also had a painted with red trim in '59. So I feel safe there is a bit of wiggle room for the differance, besides IF I meet a person who has issues he can pay me a100K and do what he wants with HIS truck. ;) |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
