Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I bought another guitar today. Like I need another one. But I liked it and it was a best offer deal. So I threw in a lowball because I need it like another hole in my empty head, And really didn't want to spend too much on another one. I figured that he would turn me down. I kind of hoped he would.
Nope. He didn't even counter offer and now I have 10 guitars. Who needs 10 guitars you may ask? Nobody. That's who. But I now have 10 guitars. I am an idiot. Maybe my ex wives were right. |

gotta flip the pic ... sec Also picked up a couple others but not DeWalt. I think I spent 40 bucks total for almost 1400 bucks retail worth of tools. |

After we redid the display the stuff all the extras get taken to the back and they dept managers price things to move. A few things I wanted didnt make my cut they were already gone. When I got in and saw what was there I just said Ill take everything. There was one 12 volt tool in there that I gave to my honey because I recently bought here a few of the 12 volt things because they are smaller and easier for her to handle. As far as giving a heads up to folks, employees get first shot. There is a pretty big diversity of folks so someone is always there to grab the good deals. We dont make jack for salary, so I consider it a perk to go along with other nice perks we get. |

I got my old man wheels and KC lights on my Jeep. yes... the PS box is bleeding fluid...
Lights still need to be hooked up, but I have a double DIN radio Kit and rear back up camera too, I'll do that all at the same time. The volume knob and CD player are broken. I'm old school, I believe CD's sound way better than any bluetooth music app I've heard... I bucked the trend and went with slighly larger than stock 235/75's vs 31's. I like the look. |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Your Jeep is looking good Jesse. I like it. I want to put new wheels on mine but it has new tires. So that's on hold until I get some wear out of these tires.
I'm with you on the CD's. My wife says I'm a dinosaur. But I don't care. I like them better and they're easy. Just shove them in. |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I had a couple neighbors over and watched the Rams vs. Cardinals.
My wife had bought some big sandwiches. Turkey and Hot Italian. She wont eat the hot stuff and gets herself the turkey. I may have had one too many brewski's because I cut up the wrong one and passed it out to the guys. Whoops. I was eating it and thought it was bland and then I realized my mistake a little too late. :dohh: She wasn't happy. We had just eaten her sandwich. I offered her the Italian sandwich. But that didn't go over too well. So. Back in the doghouse I go... At least the Rams won. :) |

It's what I like to do, grab an era and go with it. I did that with the '71 camper truck I bought in '89. Things I did were things that could have been done when it was new. I did the same with the '90 Blazer we bought new, since it was the same body since '73 and it was solid red, no 2-tone like 99% Silverados were by then. I put dual exhaust out behind the rear tires, 10" turbine wheels, and painted to match Bushwacker Extend-A-Fenders (smooth/no bolt pockets) on, like was done in the '70s. And that blue & white never been painted '72 K/20 I had. Even though I had powder coated steelies and turbine 16.5s, I bought 16" x 10" white spokes because 4WPW had a buy 3 get one free deal on their tires that only came in 16". Since I already had the other wheels I really wanted on there (run multiple sets/different purposes), I went for the white spokes that were also period correct, and the cheapest wheels they had. I wanted the truck to look like it was an untouched pride & joy survivor from the '70s. Yeah, you nailed it with the wheel/tire combo and Daylighters. I like a clean uncluttered look. But if I did one more thing to that Jeep it would be have the original Renegade stripe and lettering 'painted' on the hood. |

Thanks for the compliments guys, I figured y'all would understand. All the youngins probably wondering why I didn't put 18" bead lock things on it with monster tires that rub. I was legitimately pissed when I realized our new 2020 Equinox didn't have a CD player (my 2015 Z71 does and I learned the 2018 was the last year for CD players in the trucks?). What the crap? It has all this fancy blue tooth stuff... I do use my ipod (which I'm told is really old tech now) but the sound just isn't the same.
It's funny you mention Renegade Tim... I built this little CJ like 20 years ago (tried to find it, but my model storage closet is a mess with a crap top of boxes). This was my inspiration for my big Jeep. White spokes and all. I am going to leave the rear tire uncovered. I am also going to leave the bumpers stock. Really, the only outside change coming is new fender flares. I tried to clean these up, but back to black just made the gray a slightly darker gray  Flares are so cheap for these things (and supposedly have better UV protection than the originals) it's not worth all the work to pull and paint these. I'll put on a new set and rub in some back to black a couple times a year to keep them purty. The only additional change(s) I'm thinking of are a winch plate and small winch for the front, I figure it would be worth it if I only ever use it once... and I've seen a few guys trim down an XJ roof rack and put it on a TJ hard top and it actually looks pretty cool. That's a maybe... winch much more likely. |

this is what I found on the XJ roof rack on a TJ, not 100% on this, because if I drill holes they're there forever... and used tops are like $900-1200 still.
I also bought a few of the stickers below. One for the Jeep, one for the mustang, and one for the tool box. |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I like the roof rack but would be terrified to drill the top. I know that I'd screw it up.
I bought a Renegade hood sticker for my old CJ5. Never put it on for the same reason. I knew I'd mess it up. Fender flares are a good relatively inexpensive fix. Mine were nasty and there was no cleaning them up. I replaced them too. The winch is a good idea. I'm going to get one too. Along with wheels and tires. Mine look good but my Jeep is a little too soccer mom looking with them. I'll probably go with the same setup that I had on the CJ5. I dislike the fact that these newer cars have no CD player. My 2015 Corvette doesn't have one, my 2019 Wrangler doesn't either. And they weren't cheap cars. Don't these car companies realize that old farts like me drive their cars and don't want to fiddle with a bunch of high tech nonsense? |

I found this double din CD player with GPS and a back up camera on amazon for a pretty decent price (I remember when a new car stereo was $$$)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01686P1XK...t_details&th=1 and this neat kit mimicks the factory piece, but has the large opening for the double din, and comes with a wiring kit to make wiring the two easier. It's amazing all the neat accessories and support these things have... |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I'm with you on the CD player. My wife bought me some new CDs to replace some that had gotten to where they just didn't play anymore, my favorites of course. I was so happy to play them again in my 06 Sierra cc with the factory 6 disk Delco plus Bose system. That lasted about 2 weeks. The player crapped out. It now had 6 of my new CDs locked inside. I don't think so! I opened up the radio and dismantled that dude and got them out. There was no putting it back together. So I tried them in the 03 Tahoe with same system. No go. It's busted too! I searched high and low for just the replacement CD players and got frustrated and just stopped looking. Most, if not all of them, are made in some Asian country and some of their part numbers do not work when searching for a new one. One listing said they supply these players to most major auto manufacturers. End of search. And I'm not interested in cables or thumb drives, etc. I don't store music on my phone. If the radio now quits I guess I'll sell the truck!

I bought a boat last night. I actually made the hull a couple years ago and sold it to a guy south of here. He painted it all up and only ran it a couple times. He just put it up for $400 which it 150 less than I sold the bare hull for. Just need to put my motor and hardware in it and we're off! 1/6 scale (55 inches) should do 65-68 mph in race trim.
