Degreaser and pressure washed bed frame rails, splash pans and inner fenders prior to stripping and painting. Also cleaned up the back half of the frame for the same. Will probably paint the inner fenders body color and POR 15 and top coat everything else. Also scored a nice, clean stock diff cover to replace the rusty chrome one currently installed.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Just hung the driver door back in place after replacing the bottom and also the top hinge along with the bottom bushings and pin... and then pulled the passenger side and replaced the upper hinge and put new bushings and pin in the lower hinge and re-hung it. They will both be coming back off a few more times, but those new hinges and the new pin kits sure make em nice and stiff again... just like new.

The Lokar cable mount fit ok because it ended up under the B&M cable mount. The LED sending unit did not fit at all on the trans pan, so i just mounted it on the trans crossmember. I only used about 17 inches of cable from 5' that they send with the kit..

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Just removing parts. I've come to the realization I can remove a TON of parts and still maintain start and stop. SSTIM suggestion and it finally clicked. Next up is the hood, for which I'll build a bench on wheels (need the room), then the grille, outer cowl, windows (gee can't wait). My mechanical experience is limited, and of course this is my first tear down, but I'm enjoying the heck out of this. Not doing the suspension by myself however, nor much of the steering. NEED SOME HELP.
Also came to the realization I "need" to lift the engine (only 40K on rebuild). Ha ha haaa.........Took long enough. Everything else is going to be removed, how hard can it possibly be to lift an engine with nothing on it for painting the frame? Exactly................Very expensive, let me tell you what I paid for NOS wiper blades and three sets of refills today. It's worth it. |

Went to the garage where I have my Highlander stored for the Winter and stood looking at the exterior for 5 minutes. I then opened the door and looked at the interior for another 3 or 4 minutes. Can't wait for Spring...

Ordered a fuel psi regulator and fuel line and filter kit for the Edelbrock carb. Will try to remember to post pics when I get it installed. Gotta make a bracket for the regulator and figure out the plumbing first.

Took the original rear bumper to the local welder/fabricator today for a new look and function. Will post pics after. I replaced the original a few months ago with a newer "step-bumper" and really dont like it.

Just a quick wash and dog ride. But lets all understand one thing, it's really his truck. He only lets me drive because he would rather sit in back. If you got time for a quick story, this is true:
He is actually a well behaved dog. Never jumps on furniture, never jumps on people, does what he is told etc. He won't even jump into the truck until he is told to do so. So, awhile back I started my truck to go to work. I forgot something, so I jumped out, left the truck running, ran into the house, grabbed whatever it was, and returned to the truck. When I got back to the truck, there he was sitting in the driver's seat. Not only that, but the other dog was in there with him. I was taken back a bit just because it was so out of his personality. Never had he (or the other one) gotten into the truck without being told and certainly never when I am headed off to work. I scolded them a bit, told him to get out, put them back into the house, and headed off to work. Listening to the radio on the way to work, I actually hear the announcer say, "It is national take your dog to work day." Evidently someone told my dogs, and not me. What the.... The photo is funny because he won't come in while the truck is outside. Just hangs out on the road. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I blew a wad of money, put on a new gasket. LOL Also removed about 5 pounds of crud off the axle, so it should handle much better. Pebble Beach here I come!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Did next to nothing this weekend. What a waste. Pending receipt of casters for a hood bench. Though I did modify my heater hose config. for temporary. Other than that I blew another $200, for rally wheel centers and speed nuts.
Also discovered the starter on my 05 Tundra may be going out. Only 69K miles............It's $700 bucks to have done, and I won't touch it. If it were an old Chevy, that's 1/2 hour plus $60-70.......Not happy..............On another note, it was after its first night in the garage in three weeks (needed the space for the rebuild). When I kicked it out the battery problems began. Don't under-estimate the value of storing your vehicles in a garage, both mechanically and cosmetically. |

Picked up some new wheels on Friday.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...l/IMG_6730.jpg Pulled out the a/c (not factory) and all of the wires the previous owner installed to pull a trailer. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...l/IMG_6570.jpg Finally got the hood hinges dialed in and I drove my truck for the first time in over a month. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Cab is gone to body shop and now it's time to put my box together. I have a 8' fleet side box and decided to get new box sides as when I bought the truck it came with new box front, new inner wheel wells, new tailgate and new wood floor along with SS strips. Everything is in black primer and I'm wondering what to use to seal it properly to prevent future corrosion. Also does anyone know what I will need for fasteners to accomplish this.
Cheers! Posted via Mobile Device |
