good work Don. beating the heat this year has been a problem but the seven day forecast has cooler weather ahead, maybe even a shower.

did you get the wiring close to completion? i don't have a taste for spaghetti but sure admire someone who does. fortunately for me Pete loves the stuff.

you are right about that old guy-get up early thing… I do the same.

Thanks Clem... no real progress with the spaghetti yet, getting sidetracked with honeydew and other thingz... see next post...:mm:

Planned on some spaghetti time the past couple of nites... between evening Thunderstorm Saturday and other complications last night...:thud: no wiring progress... Arkansas summer has arrived Full Force, the last week or so has seen the heat index hovering between 105 and 115F, no shop w/ AC and working on truck out in heat equals little truck time for this old guy... :waah:

While browsing fb yesterday morning, I ran across a truck guy in GA with this dilemma... seems the PO of his '64 hacked up the heater box for some unknown reason...

I happen to have a spare thanks to Jonathan (1963C10)... so this week this will be on it's way to GA... I also pointed the guy here...

While digging through my parts stash, to pull out the aforementioned heater box, I found this license plate bracket...
https://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7430/2...298c6139_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Complete with glass lens...:metal:

Disassembled
https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7338/2...1a9c3b34_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Bulb socket clean and in working order...
https://c7.staticflickr.com/8/7417/2...28b20c59_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

I even found the cork gasket for the lens is pliable and ready for service...;)
https://c6.staticflickr.com/8/7134/2...b4fea8c8_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

After a little hammer and dolly work I masked off the socket and began the paint process...

Painted the inside of the lens cover white...
https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7369/2...78b488aa_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Here's a pic of the back of my gauge cluster, with a new box of bulbs for illuminating it... prepping for more spaghetti work...
https://c6.staticflickr.com/8/7790/2...e43de37b_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

I will post pics of the re-furbbed License plate bracket as soon as the paint dries (humid so sloooooow process)

That's all for now guyz... :uhmk:

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Worked through the holiday weekend... and in the evenings I've been accomplishing some honey-dooz, in order to facilitate some truck time...:mm:

Over the past few days, I've started getting back after the wiring and also addressing the issue of the clutch pedal being about an inch and a half or more taller than the brake pedal... The wiring in the cab and front end is almost complete... the alternator still needs to be wired and the front and rear lights are not hooked up due to the fact that the front clip and bed are still separate from the cab and frame... I also need to purchase a fuel sending unit from LMC, as that is where the tank came from... On to the pics...

This was the temp when I called it a day today... thankful for a tent and fan and plenty of ice water...;)
https://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7418/2...29c88721_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

for me mates across the pond...
https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7461/2...af74e9a0_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Hard to tell from this angle, but the clutch peal is now about 3/4 of an inch taller than the brake... more better in my world...
https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7290/2...e32fe2cd_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

The Gauge Cluster wired and in place, need to clean up bezel and find the screws...
https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7454/2...45fb6fcb_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

The copper line to feed the oil pressure gauge waiting for hookup...
https://c6.staticflickr.com/8/7550/2...65dbc291_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Next up is to wrap all this and put in it's home up under the dash... Gonna remove the seat so I can get myself in the proper position to make this job a tad easier...:haha:
https://c7.staticflickr.com/8/7440/2...b98676be_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Once I get the wiring settled under the dash, I'll be focusing on the brake lines, clutch pedal linkage, and then getting the front clip and bed installed...:uhmk:

Been pondering the bed floor, and think I'm going to steal Coulter's hinge idea...:bann:

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

You got it going your way now.
It has been on the warm side around here.

Do you have a rubber bump stop for your clutch pedal? It mounts like the brake light switch in front of the pedal. Back in the day a lot of times it was missing and the clutch pedal would be higher than the brake.

likaroc13 07-09-2016 01:31 PM

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Keep it up Don, & you'll be rolling before you know it! It's been really hot around here as well. Be safe out there.

I posted this question and look forward to wiring help... If you have info on this subject, please click this link and reply...:chevy:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=1#post7651171

I picked up this connector today and need some advice on how it should be wired...

Thanx again for looking in...:mm:

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...

Thanx to member Notsolo I now have the info I need to wire the alternator correctly...:bann:

I have a resistor on order and know which wires need to be hooked where on the regulator plug...:mm: Resistor should be here Friday...

So this morning I rolled the truck outta the tent, removed the seat, so I can fit myself under the dash to finish sorting the cab wiring... After removing the seat, the in-cab fuel tank disappeared...
https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8820/2...1d727bc9_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

The filler hose, probably original equipment pulled apart upon tank removal...
https://c4.staticflickr.com/9/8782/2...003f254f_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

I then cut part of the brackets in lieu of drilling spot welds...:sumo:
...they are now ground smooth and waiting for me to paint in order to finish covering any and all yellow from the previous paint scheme...
https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8864/2...67e0c750_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Not sure how I'm going to deal with this hole, notice the spaghetti waiting to be tucked away up under the dash... As for the hole, I've an idea up me sleeve, just not a complete idea...:haha:
https://c7.staticflickr.com/9/8655/2...b78e983e_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

Waiting for the temp to start on the downward trend a bit later today before tackling the spaghetti... Here's an Arkansas sunflower who's decided to wear dreads...
https://c3.staticflickr.com/9/8750/2...2fb5b39c_z.jpgUntitled by Donald Olivo, on Flickr

98% of the cab and engine wiring is complete...please don't ask for the formula to reach the %age point...;) Couldn't answer that one anyway...

till next time...:burnout:

I'd have to look through my thread for the exact number, but over the past 50 years the floor of my cab accumulated in excess of 42 holes...:dohh:

Thanks Brother!!! Gonna try and get the resistor wired in for the Alternator feed one evening this week, plus run the sensing wire, that will be all the cab and engine wiring complete... next step, finish the clutch linkage and focus on brake lines... will be ordering my fuel tank sender soon, then get this thing road worthy...:metal:
