Re: How about some pics of 47-59
Thanks mud-man. sqrlnts, not my shop. belongs to a good friend and he lets me work on it in his shop. I had a chassis shop for 20 yrs, but had to close it and go on disability. this truck should have been a 6 month project, but its taken me over 2 yrs to get this far. things should go faster now that most body work is done. it has been around the block a couple times.
Thanks for all the compliments guys. I have a build thread on H.A.M.B. board. my user name there is also dew468. |

Re: How about some pics of 47-59
Ok, not that I am planning on doing it but i always wondered what a panel chopped down to a truck would look like. AZMccoy was kind enough to photochop it down, now I know.
This one is at the lower bodyline, Not sure its right. Almost needs the top chopped down. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...psca369884.jpg This one, the bed is almost too high. Would make for a nice deep bed even laid on the ground. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps656965d2.jpg |

How about an extended cab!
|
Re: How about some pics of 47-59
I like the extended cab version the best. The additional cab length gives it the proper proportion IMHO.
|
Re: How about some pics of 47-59
The extended cab w the raise box sides is my favorite, perfect lines and proportions.
|
Re: How about some pics of 47-59
That thing would have cab room for days!! Could have super comfy reclining seats, plenty of room for storage, and great leg room, and I want to start building this!!!
I agree, great idea ChuckDriver. Hmmmmm thats not your only one recently, your a real fart smeller aint cha!!!! I almost hate to say this but, its a 1955 Avalanche :D. Now who needs a project? |

Re: How about some pics of 47-59
I bought this 49 3600 last year. It was a perfectly functioning older restoration with not many miles & with most of original ¾ ton running gear. Too many years doing auto body work had me shying away from full “projects”. This was originally a Calif. truck & not a “correct” resto….so, perfect for mods!
First pic is as I bought it and the rest are as it is now and a couple in process shots. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2...k/Aug14A1a.jpg After shots... http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2...rk/Aug14A1.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2...rk/Aug14A2.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2...rk/Aug14A4.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2...rk/Aug14A3.jpg |

Re: How about some pics of 47-59
Hampshire, Very nice truck. I like it a lot.
Whose MII kit is that and what did you do to lower the rear? Flip the axle on top or what? |
Re: How about some pics of 47-59
Thanks, Dan.
On the front end….I only wanted a 2-3” drop and that was a big problem – no one had anything other than the standard 4-5” drop Mustang II set-ups. I will tell the entire front end story in full to anyone who is interested off-line. The thing is, the company I went with had the correct system, but sent me the wrong cross member & shock towers & then insisted it would work when I called them to exchange it. So, we went ahead & suffice to say it didn’t work – not even close. We cut it off & the dealer who sold me the kit had the manufacturer send the correct cross member & shock towers. You want to know more about this, pm me. I don’t believe in going viral in public. As you can see from the pics, the Mustang II kit has the shock towers against the sides of the frame instead of lapping over the top. This enables one to have more flexibility in going higher (towards stick height)– not just going lower. Bottom line, the stance is exactly where I want it and I have lots of adjustability left (up and down) in the suspension. As for the rear, it had this wide-ass Dana 60 which I pitched in a hurry and replaced with a 3:73 Posi out of a 72 Nova. All but 3 leaves were removed and they were reversed to move the axle back 1-1/4”. Viking 10” coil overs now handle much of the work. Added disc brakes while we were at it. I was initially concerned I would have to C-notch the frame as the 3600 frame does not have the arch a 3100 has & putting the axle on top won’t work. However, we didn’t have to do that. I now have between 4-5” clearance – axle to frame. Also a factor is making this work is the tire height. I experimented with 15 & 16” mockups. I ended up with 235/70 -16 on front and 255/65-16 on back. They are both on 7” wide rims (8” rims were too tight in back) and both are 28.9” tall. Many more choices with 16s. |
