Still cleaning up the rear frame & suspension. Getting ready to pull off the bed but I couldn't resist removing the stock coils and setting in the 5" drop coils just to check the look before tear down. I'm likin' it.

http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/2659/paintbooth02.jpg http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/1351/paintbooth01.jpg For this project there really wasn’t much overspray because I decided to paint the engine compartment with Raptor bed liner. I wanted something textured and durable that wouldn’t chip when I piled wrenches on the inner fenders, would look different but hot rod appropriate, and would require very little maintenance. For a long time I considered painting the engine compartment in Zolatone which was popular back in the 60’s, but it isn’t rust proof or nearly as durable. As of a month ago I was going to shoot it in gloss black enamel, until I saw a couple of other projects covered in the stuff, and found some favorable reviews. I’ve also had great results with other UPOL products. After about 40 hours of prep, I finally shot it this morning and by this afternoon had everything back together with the engine running. All that’s left now is to tie up the driver side wiring, repaint the hinges and springs, and get the hood back on. http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/2884/000ov.jpg |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I put a new guage cluster from Dolphin in and replaced the 15 year old 5" round outside mirrors with the larger rectangle ones from Classic Parts. My old eyes are not what they used to be.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
UPOL Raptor Bed Liner. A lot of people buy it from TP Tools. I was in a hurry so I bought mine locally and paid more for it. Make sure you get the kit complete with the gun. The threads are unique to UPOL bottles. I have a 3M Schutz gun but it won't screw onto the UPOL containers.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
well not today but last weekend took my 65 one ton dually on its first trip on the highway. friday night my 17 year old and I left after work on a 190 mile trip. truck vapor locked on us 4 times and had to wait to let it cool off for about 30 minutes each time. Finally the sun went down then truck ran great. Saturday mourning went and bought camper that mounts to frame and got it set on truck and welded to frame, camper is a 1970 WEEK N DER camper that was on a 1970 ford 1 ton. My truck origanally had a camper on it so it is cool to remove the flat bed and turn it back into a motorhome. So then Sunday headed back home with the 10 year old along, with the camper on the truck would only run 55 to 60 mph and the truck was running 250 deg, had to stop at every town and on the side of the road sometimes to cool off. Just a tip most elevators-co-ops have a faucet with garden hose out. and also a lot of city parks have faucets that work. took a long time to get home but we made it, outside temp was 115 deg witch didnt help but the boy and I had a system we would pull over I would get out and pour water on rad. and the boy would slide over and rev up engine till it cooled off and then off to next town. Was a great memory with both boys on trip there and back.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
What a great story. Your kids (and no doubt yourself) will never forget the adventure. I still vividly remember the trip home 48 years ago in my very first car, a 1946 Chevy sedan. It was a 20 mile trip that took several hours because the carburetor leaked like sieve and flooded the engine every few miles. I can still remember the smell of gasoline soaked shoes, mixed with old cloth cigarette discolored upholstery.
Good to hear you made it home safely. |
