Ok, got my vintage key cut for the Buick now that it's my daily driver. And I spent some time on the hood just still eye balling and getting my act straight before I start cutting it more and welding it. I am getting pretty comfortable that I am on the right track.

I took the '58 to the Cops & Rodders car show and came home with a little hardware. Top 21 (participant voting) and Norm's Pick which was made by the folks at Norm's Tire, the shows hosts...

I received my tubing bender from Rouge fab. Friday. I ordered the cart unwelded. I figure it will give me a chance to learn to tig weld and spray some paint with my turbine system. I practiced for a while and jumped right in. Not sure it is a stack of dimes but it"s a stack of something. I went to the welding store and bought 20 tungsten. If nothing else I'm becoming quite adept at grinding tungsten. I took a small project in Wisconsin starting in a week (Orielly"s auto parts store) so no work on the truck for about 3 months. Pete and Jakes are working on my custom front axle. Have to go make some truck money.

took mine out for a short 5 or 6 mile jaunt. its been sitting since I got the new house. when I started it the carb was flooding. stupid hollys cant sit for any length of time. cleaned the needle and seat and its back to business as usual. its just about time for me to get back to work on it. I tend to drive it more than I work on it now. its pretty weird.

Right on guys!

Spent a little time out there yesterday, that hood is kicking my butt! I wish had saved the spare I had just to look at. Or I wish I had a Goodguys show every weekend that I could run over to and look at trucks. This hood bracket and hood are just wild. I may be other thinking it, but damn it's kicking my butt!

Yep, just looking and figuring and thinking how, and what is happening, I am a bondo dude not a geometer. Damn this stuff changes the geometry of stuff you had no idea it would. I figure something out and then I am thrown another. I think I am there where I can get something done over the next few days.

Went to the upholsterer's to check on my seats. He originally promised they'd be done in a week, now it's closing in on a month. It looks like he's doing a meticulous job, but not sure if the long delay will result in a bigger bill (more hours) or a smaller bill (contrition for having taken so long).

Ok, I got all the body and prep work done on my bed sides, the head board and the tailgate this morning, it's all ready for primer.

Not really, I bought all new parts from Mar-k, they are on their way!

By the way, if any of you know someone in the Northern California area I will have my original bed complete for sale, it's a bolt on for a "patina" truck.

When the weatherman gives you 72 degrees and low humidity in Ohio in June, you better grab the paint gun! Hi-solids primer.

Thanks, Brian. I just wish I was as fast as you, but I've adopted your "5 minutes a day" philosophy and it has helped. As far as the shop is concerned, it's unfortunate that it takes us 50 years to build up to a respectable work area, but then the body starts slowing down.

You did make me look back on my pic though. I'm actually stooping three feet outside my pedestrian door, so the garage looks even bigger than it is. It doesn't hurt that I'm a "picker" too. That aluminum fold-up bench in the foreground? Garbage-picked. The two white cabinets on the left wall? Toss-outs. How about the three garage door openers? My buddy had used ones, and gave them to me. (He's got some kind of hoarding disease!) He also gave me the stainless commercial kitchen bench on the far wall - GREAT for doing transmissions! That fancy small chest of drawers next to it? Bought it for $10 at my employer's auction when the plant closed. Got a drawing cabinet at the same auction, and two HD workstation benches. Loads of Harbor Fright stuff, but I'm upgrading as things break. Homemade horses... I have the entire toss-out kitchen in there from another friend's house. The lights? I just rebuilt them all after buying a ton of 4' LED bulbs off of Ebay. An old hospital closed 15 years ago and I ended up with five of their lockers. The local charity wouldn't take them, so they found their way to me right before they were to be pitched. I could go on...

I don't know if working on tools count as working on the truck. I bought the kit cart for my tubing bender to get some practice welding TIG. It took way too long I'm sure, but I got it painted between rain storms today. It's far from perfect. I was told not to practice on my project. I am awesome at grinding tungsten.

Shot the guide coat on the bed parts and started sanding the hi-solids primer. Finding all of the pin holes and hopefully minor imperfections. I'm getting better at doing sufficient body work before shooting the 2K.

Most of the day was spent putting in some wrought iron fencing that the wife bought off the neighbor, and putting in a photocell for a spotlight for her friend. Gotta work both ends of the deal...

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Soooooo, I sold the bed. One little problem, I told a guy who had called me from Australia that he could have it. He had some company to pick it up from my house and he would pay me on paypal. So I sent him a text telling him to deposit the money in my paypal leaving him the name of it. It was 2 in the morning there so it's understandable he wouldn't be responding. Well many hours later when he would be up I got another call from someone who had called be before the Australian guy and said he did want it and would pay me right now. I called the Australian guy and the call wouldn't go through. I decided that was a red flag and to hell with it and sold it to the other guy. I texted him telling him it was sold and I got some SERIOUSLY upset texts back. He made up some story how he already paid some guy to come get it and pay me cash. I told him I was sorry and that I tried to call. I honestly feel bad, I made a mistake not looking into how to call someone in Australia but it was just that, a mistake. he is TICKED big time, saying some crap a little out of line.

I apologized over and over, but he is TICKED.

Me too...……….

Been working 80 hr. weeks, so not a lot getting done, but I got enough wiring done and the gas tank all buttoned up to attempt firing it off... only to find out I have a leak in the fuel line where I put the fuel filter in, so that is a tomorrow thing.... however the 383 stroker fired right off with a little gas down the FiTechs throat, brought the old lady running out to the garage to ask if it was the truck!!!!

Don't feel bad Brian, buyers frequently get upset on Craigslist. The guy didn't answer his phone. The Craigslist rule is, whoever puts cash in your hand first gets it.

Meanwhile, I tried to attend a car show last weekend, but I should have known better...

In my area there is a weird phenomenon: car owners always try to get to the show before one another, then they all try to leave before everyone else. They think they're "beating the crowd" when in fact THEY ARE THE CROWD. I have coined a name for early leavers; I call them "Runners" after the iconic sci-fi movie, "Logan's Run."

This weekend's car show was advertised as going from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM. I'm a lifelong night shift employee, so I usually aim for later in the day. But when I arrived at this show at 1:30 PM ALL THE CARS WERE ALREADY LEAVING! By 1:45 I was standing in a totally empty lot in a show that was advertised as ending at 3:00 PM. WTF??? Not only is it rude, early running means cars are driving through the throngs of attendees, endangering spectators and children.

I have already written letters to the car show's organizers and sponsors suggesting that entrants be required to keep their vehicles parked until after the official advertised show end time. But it's too late for me, I've been burned dozens of times. This was the last empty lot I'm going to and the last car show I will attend in my area ever.

That sucks! I think it's a "thing" now, like graffiti and trash, people do that here too and I don't remember years ago it happening. It's like a a ball game, I never understood it. You have bought a ticket to watch your team play, to spend the afternoon in the park with other fans, seeing a game, eating good food, what a great way to spend the day! And in the eighth inning people are leaving! Obviously when the team is not playing well this happens more, but I have seen it happening when they are winning too. Important games even, they are filing out while the team is still playing! Do they do this at the movies? How about a concert, do they do this a concert too?

Yesterday, I got nothing done on the truck, I did get a roll bar in my son's latest acquisition, another Miata. I guess it was dad's job on daddy day to put a roll bar in to save my child's life in a future accident.
