Tried to clean up firewall, but hard to reach some places and hated to mess w/the grease pencil markings. Wetsanded roof w/2000 grit. Had nice weather here in OK on Sat and Sunday, but had to work on the yard....ugh!!!
Helper lurking in upper right corner. Too bad she can't push a lawn mower!!! |

Well, actually it was yesterday, but I got my frozen wipers working again. Just have to get some new blades and I can drive in the rain again.
Whenever it rains here... |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Removed the inner grille from the outer. Don't know if there's an easier way, but unless you're willing to risk breaking the inner, seems the only way is to use a small cutting wheel and cutter piers on the plastic anchors. I was going to hang the inner on the wall, but realized that's asking for a break as well, so "we" sacrificed some Xmas storage for that and more. Really could use more storage around here, but I'll make it work.
Say, anyone know if there's a part number on the outer grille, other than a sticker that's no longer legible? |

Got the timing dialed in and did my first 100' burnout on the new build and drove it for a good hour. Everything runs great and all the gauges and floor shifter are awesome. First time builder, the engine build was done with the help of the guys on this site, I couldn't have done it without em'.

I did a 4/6 ECE drop on my beater. Previous owner did a hack job on some long tube hammer bent exhaust....hanging way below the frame in the lower pic. Gotta replace all that junk next. Oh, and I picked up some super clean '67 fenders for it too.

I used this Behr deck stain & seal in one product to redo my wooden bed planks. We will see how long it will hold up to the Texas Sun. The wood was new in 2013. My truck is a daily driver, so I wasn't concerned with a high gloss look.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I bled my brakes last night, found out my pre- bent brake line kit from LMC required a little more tightening than usual to seat the flares.
I had leaks at all the unions and the "T"fittings.....but all is good now. I have to run the hard lines for my vacuum reservoir, the PVC hose and power booster vacuum line, then put some fuel in the tank and fire it up!!! Yeah!!! (Probably Friday) Have a good one Ben :metal: |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I bought some new (used) bucket seats with fold down center console. It will take a little modification to get them in but it will be MUCH better than the rock hard bench I currently have.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
My truck vibrates between 60/70 miles after 70 is smooth. as you can see the universal joint is not aligned, is more closed to the left side. I think that's why vibrates, I already install a new one, tomorrow I'll drive it to see if that was wrong.

Plugging away on the rocker replacement. Front corner of door rubs but a little massaging with body hammer will fix that. After I get the cab corner fit up I'll remove door and finish up the rest of the welds and dress them down.

It was this past weekend but I am just starting on trying to get my truck running. The truck was my father's and was given to me. It is not running but the motor will turn over. Unfortunately he passed only months before him and I were going to start working on it so I do not know why he parked it to begin with. I was too young to know.
Anyhow, I replaced the dry rotted tires with some free tires from the Discount Tire trash pile. They are off a car but they were 15" so I cannot complain. They look funny but are temporary. I also took off the carburetor and starter to get rebuild. It is the original Rochester Quadrajet and a guy in town says he get it like new again. We will see. I also took out the old hubcaps and cleaned them. They had been hanging in the garage since I was born in 1979. My dad got some chrome mag wheels for the truck that year. |

I was just going to clean the rear frame up and shoot it with some spray can black....
Now I'm waiting for the delivery guy for my drop kit, new bushings, and even more parts.... This is why I shouldn't be left alone in the garage...... Attachment 1511777 Attachment 1511778 |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
After 3 years of downtime, mine finally came to life again!!! Brand new engine, spun over a couple times and purred like a kitten. The new Summit fuel pump quit after the cam break in, but the engine was flawless. I was slightly worried as I built it in my filthy barn last winter and just got around to putting it in the truck.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Removed some of the electrical tape in the engine compartment. Pretty cool right? This weekend I hope to remove the trans. cooler, latch support, cowl, headlights, blower motor. Next week I'll finish the evap. box.
Still running, by suggestion, and a good one. I have a little more to do in the cab, then it's time to face the windows. Takes me a while, this is new for me and I'm detailed over the top. Plus I'm posting this instead of working on my truck, when there's plenty to do. Say, if anyone knows someone my way who is excellent with suspension, a lead would be great. I won't pay regular high-end shop rate, but I'll pay half and that's a pretty good wage. Flexible in time and I'm here to help. There is plenty of room to work and lots of tools. Coffee or beer free.:smoke: |
