Getting the differential rebuilt tomorrow, and will hopefully have pics to post. Pinion bearing is definitely bad in it.

My fuel gauge wasn't reading correctly and using a decade box I isolated it to the dash side. Pulled the cluster and found a nut that wasn't quite tight on the sender side of the gauge. I removed the seat to do this and also fixed the seat adjuster wire that kept coming off.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Had my drive shafts and rear end inspected. All in great shape, though they did say the oil in my rear end looked like swamp mud but otherwise no issues to be found. So just needed a new gasket (I did have a very small leak) and filled with new oil!
That was my last major section of my truck to have looked at / worked on since I got her a little over a year ago. Next week, my plan is to drive her to East Texas for the Model A 2021 Texas Tour - my brother wants me to be a chase vehicle. Anyways, it should be a nice leisurely 300 mile drive going the back way to Kilgore via US Hwy 79. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Worked on transmission lines. I am not good at bending lines. I see that Davidf is using the factory truck lines. Great idea. However the lines are different diameters and not sure how one can get The new lines attached to the radiator. Are adapters available? Can you use the same year truck radiator?

72 died on me today in the driveway. Starter must have a dead short tried jumping the solenoid with the tester starter button . Nothing and the button got hot quick. So I have a new one on the way as it was under warranty but I’m done with DBElectric . 3 in two years on 2 different vehicles. So I ordered a Powermaster mini .
I also tried one of the M/T wheels that came off the Tacoma on the 68 . Pain in the butt sanding them to this finish by hand ,may just sand with 400 and paint them black . |

I completed several small projects today, some of which have been on my to-do list for a long time:
Replaced the output seal on my recently rebuilt 700R4. Either I damaged it or it was defective. Went with a GM seal this time. Made a mirror image tailpipe hanger bracket for a full length exhaust system I'm planning on getting. Also installed stock hangers on both sides of the chassis in the middle of the truck Installed a replacement hood hinge I painted yesterday. The original Hinge was bent sideways enough that the open limit stop no longer worked. Painted and installed a set of shorty 5/16 body screws in the left inner fender brace. These screws are hard to find. |

i remembered this post and gave Manes a call for my right hand mirror. She had one left, pulled it for me and will get it out by tomorrow. Have to love a place that answers the phone, and runs back to check stock. Very happy to give them my business. And now, like you Rich, I'll have a mirror I can adjust without thinking I'm gonna break it! |
