I always liked the look of most old trucks, but especially the 60-66 chevys. So I bought this 64 back in october off ebay for $3200. Having seen it only online. Won't do that again! but I think I did ok. This is my first old truck. I wanted something I could drive daily to my job and work on as I could come up with $ and time. It has some issues, but nothing too major that I've found yet. Still trying to figure out what size L6 engine I have. Been reading other posts for info. For now I'm enjoying driving something with great lines & history and seeing what the other chevy truck freaks are doing with theirs.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks
Nice truck yellowdog. If the engine is stock, it's most likely a 230. Only way of really knowing though is running the casting numbers. This might help.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks
Welcome yellowdog.
I kinda like what they did there with the grill. I'm guessing it's painted silver, but at first glance I thought you had the rare aluminum grill :D |

Thanks guys. And your right LostMy65, the grill is painted silver. I don't know if the engine is original but I suspect it is a 230, but I'd like to know for sure. I still can't find those dang casting #s. I found the stamped #s behind the distributor, but they don't tell me much (FO827A). I've searched the drivers side and I can't find anything on the engine block where its joined to the tranny. Here's some pics if anyone has some info, I could use the help.

Re: casting #s
ok. I was looking in the wrong place. I found them on the passenger side, near the feul pump, beneath the distributor, under layers of oil & paint. They are 3850817. That narrows it down to either 230 or 250. If it's original then it's a 230 right?

Did the aluminum come on just a certain year?

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks
My '65 had one when I bought it. My now wife rear ended someone in the early 90's. My local Chevrolet dealership had one on the shelf. When I went and picked it up I opened the box to make sure the grille was inside. These things are super light. If you need pictures let me know.

Re: casting #s
Just a little FYI for you. Your engine has a later model electronic ignition. By the looks of it I would guess mid to late 80's.

Here are a couple pics of my most recent 65 build. It is completely tore down now waiting on my lowering kit. I already shortened the frame and have a couple short fleetside beds to choose from. The pics make it look a lot better than what it really is but I traded a $500 car for it. It has a large journal 327 and powerglide. Best of all it is a custom cab with the big back window. Also already changed the rear to a 71 and the front to a 73 to 87 suspension. This is one of two 65 c10 trucks that I have. The other is a stepside that has been in my family since the early 70's. The chassis on that one is done and ready to finish the body work on the cab.

Great work. That frame splice looks beautiful.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks
Thanks, I have a knack for getting into projects like this. My other current project is a 57 4 door sedan that I converted to a 2 door sedan. Guess I needed another challenge so why not a longbed to a shortbed conversion.
