Looking good! I've laid several 1-stage lacquer paint jobs on my vehicles over the years. A nice, cool desert morning with no wind is still fairly easy to come by. The energy and ambition (and single stage lacquer, for that matter!) for that has pretty much departed, though.

Put the fender and cowl on today . Wish I had the hood ready but its got a little body work before it’s ready . Funny how the color changes as you walk around the truck .

''PK'' my Marine buddy who helped me rebuild my first 292 L6 back at MCAS Yuma, in the Summer of '77, used to wax poetic about the 351 Cleveland. A Ford big block underbored with small block pistons and crank. And his Dad worked for GM in Cleveland. Back in the late '90s, there was a gas station selling 105 octane on North First Ave. I put 5 gallons of that in my '71 GMC Jimmy, and proceeded to rock-and-roll. On the way to the Emissions test station, my SBC sucked valves in cylinders #6 and #7. After that I bought a Goodwrench 350 crate motor and treated it better. Except for battery acid eating the cup on the lower P/S fender tip, I can't see any advantage to relocating a battery. But I have a built 292 L6, and have extra space under the hood. Border Patrol guys have told me I have the room to smuggle 2 smallish illegals under my hood. But I don't really need extra gardeners that bad.:ito: |

Welded up all the holes in the passenger fender skirt . Tried a different black for this skirt but I like the SEM Rust Shield better . I use a HF purple gun for this type of stuff.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
The last thing that I've done recently is start up my truck and drive it around the yard for a few minutes just to keep the seals and gaskets lubed up.
I've been too busy to do anything with my truck this year. Plus I've had some life altering circumstances happen this year that has drawn my attention away from my projects. Once my late granddaughters funeral is behind me I can move on with my projects. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
After thought post.
I have already begun collecting parts for my project including picking up a 2001 Suburban for the engine swap, a 72 blazer tank for the tank conversion, and a few odds and ends to make the swap easier. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
When they bolted on a rebuilt GM 12 Bolt rear-end at Tucson Differential, my '68 C/10 Stepside's Odo read 405,083. I was told to break it in by making runs of 15 - 20 miles, and letting the pumpkin cool down, and to change the 80-140 weight oil after 500 miles.
The other day, the Odo read 405,584 when I got home. So it's time to drop the cover, drain the gear oil, look for metal shavings, read the wear pattern, bolt the cover back on, and refill with fresh gear oil. Then I can cruise the freeways without let or hindrance. |

Made more progress this weekend on the bucket seat swap. After finishing the console, my seat frames were done at the blasters so picked them up and was able to get some primer on them before the rain came back. Now need another dry half a day to get them painted and the bench out of my truck to start figuring out how to mount them.

I know the purists won't care for it much and I get it. 3 of my other 4 classics I kept pretty close to original. But the good news is there is room for everything and everyone. As I mentioned, the previous owner put the battery under the bed. PITA. Now it is in the toolbox. I went with under rail for a cleaner look and bright and shiny to match the bed / board retainers. Plus, I removed the "LUND" logo and replaced it with a bit of Texas flare. LOL! |

Redoing the bedwood on my stepper . Something got on it in the barn over last winter and discolored it . So I replaned it and sanded till it was acceptable . This time I’m using a marine waterborne spar urethane. So far it’s looking good reason I’m trying it is I need to do this in the basement so fumes wood stove and gas water heater don’t mix all that well .
