Installed the 94 amp alt from an 86 silverado. Internally regulated, 3 wire set up. Fixed the amp gauge too.

I installed the sound deadening insulation and started restoring the heater equiptment. I had several heaters and vent boxes to choose from so I could take the best parts of many. I sandblasted parts and applied rustmort over night. Paint it all tomorrow.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I have been upgrading my timing chain and sprockets. Its been a real pita. I've had the most problem out of the harmonic balancer installation tool than any of it. But we are almost done. Just fixing to check on the timing.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Tinkered on the new C10 for a while today. Replaced the LOOOONG van-style oil filler tube with a oil cap / grommet, checked plugs / gaps, tested compression on all cylinders, and installed a squarebore carb to q-jet intake adapter (previous owner had installed edelbrock directly to the original intake). The old 350 still isn't running right, but it looks like the timing is WAY off. I think the previous owner dropped the distributor in without setting TDC on 1. It'll run, but the #1 wire has to be clear over past the normal #8 position, and the vacuum advance doesn't appear to be working well either. Probably going to hold off on any more troubleshooting until the new HEI shows up. Hopefully the new install will clear up all these little issues...
I also crawled underneath to check out the saddle tank setup. The tanks look great from underneath, but who knows what the inside looks like. The switch and saddle tank fuel lines are disconnected but all there if I decide to hook it back up. For now I might pull the new-ish tank out of my donor cab tomorrow and see how clean it is. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Unplugged interior wire harness, I have a harness that has excellent fuse box writing and it has like new wires, very clean so replacing my old one. Removed dash and replaced the green turn signal and high beem red color caps with blue. Going with blue lghts in dash so thought why not blue turn signal and high beem. Used a blue plastic and cut out and glued on the cardboard supports in dash. Took dash pad in to get recovered in leather like my side panels are. Going to take a dremal and polish up fuse tabs in the fuse box before I install.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
re-installed the full leaf spring pack. Sits a lil higher now, but it's ready for some work! Getting ready to move from Calistoga to Santa Rosa and I have stuff sitting in Pope Valley (30 min East), stuff in Novato (30 min South), and stuff in Pismo Beach (4 hrs South). It will be nice having everything in one place :-)

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Took the afternoon off of work because it was such a beautiful spring-like afternoon! Installed my new HEI in the 70 C10, installed new plug wires (think they gave me the short set instead of the long under-the-manifold style), gapped the plugs, and fired it up. Took about 15 minutes to get the timing just right. Ran good, but had a nasty tick in the passenger side rockers. So I pulled the valve cover and adjusted the noisy lifter. Unfortunately I noticed that the rear-most valve was hardly moving. Guessing that lobe is wiped out... :( It runs OK for now, but it's coming out in favor of the 383 in my other project truck in the very near future...
I also replaced the 15' long van style tranny dipstick with a standard one. That cleaned up the engine bay a LOT! This is my first 2wd in this bodystyle and I had NO IDEA how much more room you have to work at the back of the engine in the 2wd vs 4wd trucks! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Nothing but looking for a piece of black carpet to make the side door covers. I have de idea of engrave the letters Chevrolet or the bow tie. But the carpet stores don't sell a yard. But I found a place the name is UFO (upholstery furniture outlet an they have two choices car and marine types.
We'll see. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
That's weird, Tomahawk30, I had 5 2wd v8 trucks and 2 4x4's with v8's and all the engines sat the same distance from firewall whether small or big block, maybe yours was a 6cyl originally as they sit further back if just being switched to a v8 and not moving mount back. Cool trucks though, oh ya..
