What a great thread. Pains me that there are so many tandem tractor unit 1950's Fords out there while precious few Chevys survived.

Yeah, I wonder. Does that say powered by 353? Detroit 3-53? Doesn't look like there's a dash after the 3. Maybe that's the generator power supply, or maybe diesel-electric experimental?? I'm still guessin'

I'm thinking a show truck for GMC during the mid 60's. Chroming steelies is a lost art!

That thing would be cool if it had a 5th wheel.

I'm drooling over that one. Thanks for posting special-K. A '64 or '66, appears to have a Hendrickson rear suspension, so it must be a dual drive and not a tag?

It looks that way by the rubber on it, too. Wouldn't you love to have that one? I don't know anything about it. Just found the picture looking for Chevy fire trucks

I'm not sure if this has been shown. I just saved it, too

Neat little truck

Love it. A V8 emblem would really set it off. Not that GMC 6s aren't cool.

A lot of chrome on that one! Note the highly sought after 22.5" solid rims!

Yep! That thing is well equipped. Has the factory stake body, too. It could still have had the panoramic window added, but that is a very deluxe truck

I may have shown this truck earlier in this thread. I lost the picture when another laptop died and recently came across it again online. I absolutely love this truck. It was for sale in Wheels Of Time mag (ATHS) quite a few years ago and I was sad to not be able to consider buying. Even back then I felt it was very cheap for as nice as it is. The owner was asking $7,500 ten or more years ago. I'd put this thing up against all the li'l shortbeds at a show. I wonder where it is now

Funny thing a lot of the Chevy 6X2 trailing axle tandems did use Hendrickson rear suspension. They used the Chevy or Eaton built 14,000# drive axle in front with a dead axle in the rear position. The Hendrickson beam suspension worked well in those applications, it was less likely to 'hang' the drive axle on uneven terrain than a 4 leaf tandem suspension. That having been said, I think the truck in the picture is 'twin screw' judging by the lug tires on both rear axles.

I agree Tim, that Green Dump is one of the nicest examples of a 9500 anywhere.

If I had it I would even put it to work, lol.

Just selected loads though in nice weather only.

Me too. Just a handy chore truck. A load of driveway stone would just set it off, make the motor sound better
