Re: My Facetruck thread.
Buyer beware, built for internet sale.
I spotted a 72 Cheyenne SWB, big block in California for sale. It looked like a solid truck, and claimed to be a frame off. I checked the location, and I have a relative in the same town as the truck. Since he is a gear head too, I asked if he had time to check it out. He did and it was a big disappointment. The truck may have been off the frame, but they didn't clean anything and if you looked in the passenger rear corner you could see the ground. My inspector was not impressed. The truck was no bargain, fairly priced for a nice restoration. Yesterday I stopped at a local shop that does 4x4's and custom fabrication. They had two nice looking Advanced Design trucks that belonged to different customers. The owners had bought them off internet auctions. One owner had the truck shipped. He took it for a drive and was pretty much afraid to drive it. He brought it to the shop and they gave him an estimate of $18,000 for the work he wanted done. The other truck, the owner bought it off the net picked it up but didn't really drive it. He hauled it home, and found it was not fun to drive at all. Long story, there are people out there throwing stuff together, putting pretty paint on it, and selling it on the net. I have seen it happen here too. I know of two instances where Chevelle's were pawned off on unsuspecting buyers. Too bad, but buyers need to hire an inspector if they don't know what anything about cars. |

Shady people suck, but it's a whole new world I guess.

Re: My Facetruck thread.
It's not just buying restored vintage vehicles. At Fall Carlisle I heard some horrendous stories of cars guys had come to them after being yanked from the "restoration shop" they paid amounts in the $25k range for work that wasn't as good as what I did on my first car in high school. I mean shamefully blatant incomplete or ridiculously half-assed work
I had a good time at Carlisle this weekend. I saw some really nice stuff. I didn't take pictures, so let me start describing all I saw. First, right across the row from us was this sweet black on black '7................ |

Re: My Facetruck thread.
Yeah, all clean and fresh. I hope you wear yourself out having fun. Ain't none better'n'at. I said I've never been there but have a friend who goes. He says the town's people welcome riders with open arms. What I didn't say is how one thing both families agree on, the thing that finally brought them back together, is they both hate red!

Hope Larry’s having fun. Watching a YouTube video on knuckleheads with chainsaws. This guy thought he had a pretty slick plan, just drop it into the bed. Unfortunately he forgot to leave it in gear, after it flopped into the bed, down the hill it rolled

Re: My Facetruck thread.
Try that with the new aluminum bed. Poor truck. He really put a hurtin' on that thing, even if he did get it stopped before smashing into something. I bet that trunk weighs as much as that truck (at least).
That reminds me of a renovation job I did on an old farm house. The owner had all his flunkies working on the gutting out part. So lots and lots of plaster taken out of there. He didn't listen to my suggestion the get a roll-off dumpster. His buddy had a pickup they could haul it with. My point was the dumpster was the most cost effective and efficient way. I was supposedly the project manager. So one day I pull up and there is the '78 F150 Explorer (pretty nice truck) backed up to the front porch with a load of plaster they slid down the tin roof into the bed. You couldn't fit a boot under that rear bumper. Had to be laying tight on that rear axle. I asked if now maybe I should order a dumpster since that was only one of many loads. Nope. They drove it to the dump like that and did the same with all of it. I guess I was wrong . He probably paid 30 x 2 extra man hours into all that. And I think a couple repairs, not to mention gas and tipping fees... hours not spent moving the job forward. The guy held me responsible for the schedule. That job was such a cluster fudge I got away from it, and not without incident. But that's another story. |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
Where is Davis anyway? So deep in the hills he don’t have a signal? I hope so. It’s good to disconnect every once in a while. So I’m told.

Re: My Facetruck thread.
I figure he's having too much fun to think about posting here or he rode up on somebody's still, took a slash, and is dancin' with the bears

Re: My Facetruck thread.
Yeah, you've got to wonder if some copper tubing is messin with his signal.
