Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
If you can use it that way, the nice thing about a Tractor is that you could have many more than one trailers to hitch it to. You could do some hauling during the week and go camping on the week-end as you have mentioned.
The other nice thing about Air Brakes is it should also have a "Maxi" Brake. The reverse process parking brake. Being a 1970, there is a pretty good chance that it would have one. My '71 had one, but my '67 didn't. It is one of the greatest inventions ever. Keep us posted if you buy it. Bill |

A truck saw at the recycling plant a couple years ago, I know its not the right year but I don't know where else to put it. The man was using it to pick up mulch to take to his house, he either said it was a 65 or a 66 can't remember. He had recently bought it an redid all the brakes and some other stuff, it was a I6 230?, 4 speed, 2 speed rear, dump bed. Pretty nice truck!

I didn't realize the 8.2 went back that far. I was under the impression this body never had a diesel due to not enough space under the hood with the short front end. You learnt me somethin' new. |
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Tim,
I don't believe that 8.2 is original. They did put some 4-53 Detroits in some earlier models (some '60 to '66 style Trucks) and some in later models (somewhere around mid to late '70's). I would have to check my books to see if any were put in '67 to '72 models, as I cannot remember seeing any. But there is another Diesel that were put in '67 to '72 style trucks for sure and that was the Toro-Flow (V-6 Conversions). BTW, that is a super nice truck. 70 Step, does it have Air Brakes? |

By the Emblems the truck is a '65. It should also have the 292-6 Engine. Nice to see another one posted. Bill |
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
A friend has a '60 C40 with a flatbed dump he got at an auction. He also gt a '47 2nd design 1.5t. He already restored the '47 and the '60 sits. I have my eye on it,it's not too bad. It only has the passenger rear fender rusted. It has a big 6. It's funny,he calls it a '59. I have only subtly suggested that body didn't begin until '60. I don't want to hurt his feelings. It must have been titled in late '59.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Tim is that '60 C-40 one that looks like a heavy C-30? (with no Running Boards).

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Yes,a light duty with medium duty rear and front end.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
My '72 with the 8.2 diesel was transplanted by me in the place of a 427. I selected the 8.2 because it fit in pretty good. I restored the rest of the truck to pretty much original. It does not have air brakes.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
You did a great job! It's cool you stayed with a Detroit, too. That's a stubby nose on those medium duties.
Did you chrome those OEM mirrors or did they make stainless in that style, too. I had a set chromed when I couldn't get stainless from GM. I didn't know if they never made them or were depleted at the time. |
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Tim,
I had those mirrors chromed as well as the bumper. Original equipment was painted, the only they were available. |

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
Here is some more Big GMC's:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=313752&page=2 Scroll to Post #30 I'm not good with pictures if someone wants to re-post them on here. Notice that the Red GMC Dump has a Toro-Flow Engine. It is also a '66 Model. The first GMC is either a 5000 or 6500 Series depending on what engine it has (a 478 V-6 would make it a 6500). Bill |

Here's a few more, I know the 58 GMC is too old for this thread but its just cool, had to add it.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
That old GMC looks like it could be Detroit powered.
|
Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
You're right. That green GMC is neat! Probably is a Detroit Diesel, too. That's a massive GMC tandem, too.

Re: 67-72 C/K/T-40's-90's!
I love these old big trucks!
