Nice Work So Far. I Guess You Had The Vents In The Kick Panels Filled In? It Looks Good. That Is Where I'm At With Mine. I'm Not A Pro So It's Taking Awhile. |

What for headers are you using? Any modification to the headers or to the frame?
Thanks Jeremy |
Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
Looks great. Very Very clean.
I want to put a Gen III motor in mine sometime. I hope my install looks half as good as yours and i will be pleased. |

i hope you can get your driver's side inner fender on, that high pressure power steering line is looking awfully tall. I had to find a new low pressure line for that exact reason (it has to be as low as the low pressure line you have pictured in order to work!).

that's the best i can do you for right there. it doesn't show much - you just gotta pitch the lines inward (point towards radiator). your current low pressure line should be fine, but the high pressure will need to be angled at the radiator. i can't take more shots right now, and probably won't be able to go look at the truck again until i get my new cast on my foot next wednesday -- it's hard to get downstairs to the basement. |
Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
what year are those caddi engine covers. Is that the proper term to call them?
Also will they fit any gen 3 5.3 liter motor? Thanks!!! |

Saw the pics no problem. Make a list of what you would like done so you do not forget and then we can go over the truck when you get here. What time do you think you will show?

Got one of the step fenders stripped today and we are working on the other one. Found some rust in one of them in the mounting flange. will cut out and replace the metal. It looks like they use this fender as a pinata! Lots of dents but no problem.

The don't get done sitting around. I seem to work faster when they are not my own and they are paying!!

Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
I love reading these GenIII swap threads .... i'm telling you i have like 7 pages of notes written down.
You have done some seriously awesome work here .... I'm starting my swap this month on the 25th as long as all goes to plan. Only difference is i am on a much lower budget. Only thing i am really spending the money on is the harness and reprogram from speartech. Not gonna use the stock harness. So if anyone needs one i have one laying here. I am going with a 5.3L out of 2003 sivlerado. Got a 4L60E for free from a buddy thats getting rebuilt. Only thing i cant decide on is what cam to go with or should i stay stock? What do you think about he Vette manifolds vice the camero ones for exhaust? I'm in the military so i am getting a hook up on some braided lines from the hydraulic shop over at AIMD. Should be fun. |

Re: my official 68 shortstep ls1 thread (lots of pics)
Yeah, I hammered out few dents in the fenders before I left work today and the other fender was finished stripped. Will cut out the rust spots first and one fender was bondo'd over a crack. Will drill the ends of the cracks and then weld shut before I epoxy, prime and find all of the dents.

This rear fenders feel like the old cartoon where they ask "how many lumps he would like!" Oh well beats the heck out of patching a lot of rust in them. Here they are stripped, metal prepped and epoxied. I will get them mounted up so I can do the bodywork on them better mounted firm to the bed.

i would bould it, get it running, then upgrade the cam and springs to 'vette Z06 cam and springs. i know someone who can get them mildly used for cheap. this is a really really nice upgrade for very few bucks and the HP increase is something in the 35-50HP range on an LS1, not sure about a 5.3, not sure why or how it would be diff't. |
