BTW: Wal-Mart says it now takes a week to develop the Fuji camera pics (used to take 3 working days), so you crazies will have to wait until MONDAY for your fix. Mac. :chevy: |

Re: The 283 Rebuild Begins
Well, tried to mount the fat ol’ radiator Saturday, but the "U" pieces riveted to the frame aren’t wide enough and the new rubber puts way too much squeeze on new radiator. These tanks are bigger than the original and the new rubber creates a press-fit that’s not good.
Bent the flanges out a bit with a ball peen, but that’s "H/A" and doesn’t fell or look good. Thinking about bringing the inserts into the shop and band sawing the thickness down a bit, or replacing the "U" pieces with wider units - if they exist, or taking the rivets out, cutting the channels in half and using two carriage bolts to hold the two pieces in place - about 3/8" further apart than they are now. Haven’t located the upper piece in my collection of boxes yet, but I’m sure it’s too narrow too. BTW - didn't make it to Wal-Mart over the weekend, but I'll hit them on the way home from work tonight. ;) |

Re: The 283 Rebuild Begins
Hey Mac, about your radiator. I dont know in which position you are mounting it, but in my truck I didnt use the 'U' brackets. My radiator had a channel on the bottom(upside down U). I pulled out the originals and put 2 poly bumpstops in and set the radiator over them. It cant slide any where and then its held down by the top clamp...in my case from a 67-72.
Thought Id offer the suggestion, but it depends on the bottom of your radiator. |
