Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Nothing like a summer build. Oh this is gonna be a fun one.
https://scontent-b-mia.xx.fbcdn.net/...43150029_n.jpg https://scontent-a-mia.xx.fbcdn.net/...01017526_n.jpg Almost zero progress on starting day. Had so many other things to do literally all I got was grille off, headlights off, and all of the front wiring harness off except the harness plug itself. |

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Sounds like here. Just when you get going, mother nature thinks you stink and offers you a shower.
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Oh yeah. It poured all day. Last thing I need is rain.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Well as I said, got rained out so here's a few things.
https://scontent-b-atl.xx.fbcdn.net/...49985403_n.jpg Gooseneck hitch. Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Now....time for the solid giveaway.
https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...22004646_n.jpg Yes it's just an external wiring harness. But not just any. Out of a '94 Silverado. So that means back to my needle gauges, I've got my tach back...along with a few adjustments that I'm adding in. ;) To start, she'll be getting the '94-up ABS system. And along with the heart transplant comes my new transmission. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...51044384_n.jpg Any of you who have done work, know exactly what this is. That plug, is 4L60-E. SO. New specs for everyone. Complete 94 conversion. 14-bolt 6-lug rear New 4L60-E transmission. Crate 5.7 TBI with 30K miles 94-up ABS system And while I'm working on this I'll be posting to the crew cab build to show y'all what we've been hiding. |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Hurry up....I might plan a road trip to come see your truck personally.
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
 Keep rushing me and I'm gonna take forever on it.
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
And for hopefully the LAST time...dash is out.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...98905234_n.jpg And since I'm going back to my original needle cluster, I'm gonna have fun. Stripped the color on the needles. https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...27545268_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...34937573_n.jpg I'm gonna replace the main cluster bulbs with red. Because I can. |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Awesome! Can't wait to see it lit up red!
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
I'm hoping it comes out good.
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
It will come out just fine .You are doing a great job. You are my son and you are using your own hands to build a GM truck from the frame up for the second time because you can. There is nothing better than bilding your own Truck to get it the way you want it.
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Thanks dad. I'm doing what I can, with what we have, with the time I have. No point in building it a second time if I'm not gonna do it how I want.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
I used to have that same bug shield.... I found, the airflow is disrupted, and creates wind noise at my driver's window, that was not there before.
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Haven't ever noticed that. But it does rub on my grille and make hood latching an issue. If I have the same problem with the new grille and core support, the bug shield will go.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Welp, here's the cab gut.
Seats out https://scontent-a-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/...30598677_n.jpg In between...finally took off that irritating visor. https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...96594842_n.jpg Also...some spoilers ;) https://scontent-b-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/...60380033_n.jpg Plastic off. Was actually the first time I'd ever done this the "proper" way. https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...24540060_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...64371468_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...70677516_n.jpg And last... WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' CARPET! https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...5215c3727965cd https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...07468332_n.jpg Here ya go. Y'all can settle for this for the next couple days. |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Looks like you've got a good bit of work done!
|
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Haha yeah. The cab gutting took a couple hours but now I can clean and prep for new additions.

Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Here's some tidbits for here and there:
My headlight harness creation First, my '89 sealed beam headlight harness https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...5edc15a328000f And my '94 harness that was originally set up for composites and has the newer horn plugs https://scontent-b-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...08119427_n.jpg Put it all together and....'94 headlight harness now setup with sealed beams! https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...32991404_n.jpg This was my best friend while yanking a dash. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...569ac428a2fdb5 |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
Now then....this is gonna be fun. I'm going back to my needle cluster...well, I'm starting with my '90 dash face.
https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/...2f&oe=54493C7F And here's the '93 dash face...I'm just gonna cut out the plug section and glue it in. https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...05770935_n.jpg That all being said...HELLO '94 ECM!! https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...13827809_n.jpg |
Re: 1992 GMC Sierra K1500 Shortwide Z71 Conversion
