Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Everyone seems to! Odd, it was kind of an afterthought, it was just lying there on the motor and we were gonna shoot a bunch of small stuff anyway. I like it too.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Small update-After the mad thrash to get to paint, took a few days off. Plus, it's been 105+ ambient for several days now. Cooled off on Friday, sanded and rubbed the whole top of the cab (solvent pop and a craze), the tailgate (small run), the cowl (solvent pop), and the front fender (solvent pop, small craze and dry spot) Painting in the heat gave us some issues, but nothing a little tennis elbow cant fix! Modded my processes a bit, the stuff looks great after finish polish.

Well, got the truck finished late last night. Rubbed out nice! Boppa came out for a bit today, said he was having withdrawals and needed a fix. The heat knocked him down pretty quick, though. It was back to 105 today. Got the shop cleaned up and a bunch of stuff put away. I did notice, one more round of touch-ups and small stuff and I can put the paint stuff away, that's a good feeling! Anyway, here ya go-
The mess this morning, it had to get handled. Attachment 963333 Not bad- note the reflection in a yellow door! Attachment 963334 Oy, this mess! Attachment 963335 Next issue-the bed runs downhill from the cab. A 1/4" spacer seems to make it better. Taped off to show the height difference. Attachment 963336 Off by exactly 1/2" pass side and a bit more on the drivers. We'll hopefully make us a mini-bodylift and fix all that up and cinch er down this week. Attachment 963337 Thanks for playin' along! |

So, we were presented with the gift of a low 90's day today. So, I took advantage of it. I called the local metal supplier and had them cut 2 1/2" round alum. bar stock 1/2" thick. Then I drilled 'em out here at the house. Many thanks to the lovely Wife, who picked them up on her way home. Then, we loosened up the cab and core suppport bolts, picked the whole shebang up one side at a time with a floorjack and voila! Instant bodylift! Lined up just great. We also squared up the body on the frame a tad and bolted 'er down for hopefully the last time. Looked so good, we didn't like the passenger fender fit, so we added some shims. Much better now. Really wish the core support was a good bit further forward, but we'll see how it comes out. Crapped out for tonight. Here's the pics-
Drilling the spacers- Attachment 963950 Main mount fit- Attachment 963952 Back mount fit- Attachment 963953 Final alignment- Attachment 963951 Mai the Wonderdog sez- It's good! Attachment 963954 Supposedly hot as blazes tomorrow. Checking stuff off of the looooong list, but hey, this was a biggie, and I'm glad it came out as well as it did. Thanks for playin' along!:metal: |

Thanks . it's been a long road as I am doing it all alone , but not to sound like a wine ass , lol yours looks great !! an your progress has been pretty quick , today I got a new windshield installed an my new front bumper & grill , did the pre fit on the grill before paint an glad I did as it needed alot of tweaking here an there . the old Chevy has a face an new Head lights ..
tomorrow the rest of the glass will go in an it's on the the back body to get it ready for paint , should be a hell of alot easier than the cab as it has all new panels .. :chevy: |

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Just got in- fixed gas door, fabbed up new mounting solution for it, stripped and etch primed it, fabbed alum bed spacers, picked up chrome steel grille surround, 72 insert, bow tie, 72 bumper, and 72 grille center support. Guess its a 68/70/72 now! Also wired up the lockup in the trans and the electric choke, which appears to be dead. progress!

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Boppa came out last night- tightened drivers door gap, routed out holes and got core support down and squared up front clip dead on. Uncle Matt took Boppa to a salvage he does bidness with and got a seat from an 06 Silverado, a better third brake light, and the pigtails for the efans. Time to fire up the welder!

Think Boppa will lay a fat patch in front of the house for the Youtube when you're all done!? That'd be classic man!

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Ha, he says if he won't The Kid will! Last night got fuel gauge wired and bed reset, Boppa got seats out of an 06 Silverado, (they fit awesome) and got bed set shimmed and squared. Boppa came out today and we got a bunch of parts ready for paint in the morning, got carpet dye and a fan control kit ordered, and scrubbed and pressure washed the carpet. Quitting early to go to dinner and see Ted with momma. Have a good night!

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Ok, an update - Ted was hilarious! Boppa came out today and sorted out all the taillight mess, we now have bed grounds, wiring, a trailer harness and LIGHTS! I also repainted the tailgate and cowl, and a lot of assorted hardware. Should be doin some assembly this week!

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Thanks for lookin'! Been getting stuff done a bit at a time, nothing pic worthy. Got gas door fixed and a nut plate built for it, bunch of ancillary electrical, installed 3rd brake light tonight, Kid got 95% of the wetsand/polish splooge off it, etc. Cowl, tailgate, and gas door and the tailgate hardware have been painted and polished. Blood sugar we think, has kinda gone nutty in the last week, been hard to get it in gear! Have quite a bit of prep done, hoping to make strides this weekend. Thanks again!
