Thanks everyone! Hopefully we are goin to paint the bed and tail gate either tonight or tomorrow morning. It's so hot here we are going to have to wait until it cools down before we spray.

Well we finally got it painted, I just got home! Whew I'm tired but here are the pics.

Wish it didn't have monster tires on still but it should look really good with my wheels on.

Sorry everyone, I haven't been doing a whole lot lately. I needed a break but I did pressure wash the donor motor "chevy 350 for now until I get some cash to build the SBC 400". I'm still waiting for brake/fuel lines to come in so I can run them. I got my Capt Fab brake bracket which I need to install. Today I'm going to pull my donor motor and get it ready to paint. I spent probably 2 hours pressure washing it, I've seen some nasty motors in my day but this was gross.... I can't believe the motor runs as well as it does.
Anyway, my plan is to pull this motor, paint it, and get it ready to drop into the truck so I can fab up the trans mount. This week I plan on running all the brake/fuel/air lines and start to reassemble this thing.

I check in often on your build. You've inspired me to remove the tank saddles and I am grateful. Amazing how much room there is without those things.

Thanks! Yeah, the saddles can be a little tricky to get out without messing stuff up. You just have to be patient and not force the spot weld to let go. Glad you like it!

Ok, just a small update. I got some new Sails stainless sails for the cab. I had no idea they were so expensive but 1963c-10 from this board hooked up me. They are at the polishing shop right now. They were actually in pretty good shape but I figured I may as well make them look pretty while I have them off.

I ran my fuel lines and brake lines. I just finished the brakes.... HOLY **** were they a PITA!!! I've never spent so much time doing lines in my life. For some reason no parts place I could find could order the rubber lines that go from the caliper to the hard line. I ended up having a place make me some but they messed them up three times by putting the wrong ends on them. I finally got them made right and went to install them on the truck to find out that one caliper has a square block/banjo bolt and the other side has a round block/banjo bolt... Now, I know why the parts store doesn't stock these, I've never seen that before.

I also pulled the motor from my parts truck and a steam cleaned it and painted it. I want to put a new motor in it but my cash flow isn't agreeing with that. This motor was the dirtiest motor I've ever seen. I can't believe it runs as good as it does "fingers crossed that it stays that way for awhile". I know it's wierd to paint the whole thing black but I didn't want to leave it looking like crap and since this 350 has the PCV holes I don't want to spend money on valve covers when I won't be using them when I build a new motor.

Hopefully we can get the motor/trans in this week so I can make the trans cross member.

Here are the pics, I degreased/pressure washed this thing 4 times and it was still not as clean as I would have liked. It will do for now I suppose.

With PVC valve holes? Sure, or I can buy them I just didn't want to spend too much. No sense in dressing up something I don't plan on keeping long

They are the Chevrolet racing tall steel ones with PCV hole. Feel free to use them....

Sure, I'm going to be in SLC today about 430 but I'm meeting with someone till about 500-530. If you're available let me know, I might be able to make it out there to pick them up if that's ok.

Oh ya, and... I also picked up a Sbc 400 last night. It's complete minus the heads but I got it for 100 bucks! The guy said he drove it for 3 hours the night before I picked it up. I've been looking for one of these since I bought my truck. Now I can start buying parts when I get a little cash to build this. Nothing too crazy just something that runs good and has decent power. Maybe around 300 hp. :D

Well, I just read your whole thread as I never saw it before.

And from where I am sitting in the comfort of my chair here in England, it seems you and your dad have done more than a ton of work.

Guys like you mess my head up though, as your attention to detail and fab work just blows my mind.

I have always said my truck will stay red, after I owned it for a week, but your colour choices are absolutely inspirational. I love the truck.

I will continue to follow your build from here onward.

Thank you For the kind words! There are things I like about the fab work but then again I know there are a lot things I would do differently now. That's why I like building cars/trucks there are 1000s of ways to do things. My next project will hopefully be better but I'm going to take a break after this. This project turned into a much larger project than I ever imagined but I learned a lot mostly from reading other people's posts on this forum. I'm glad you like it, I can't wait to see it together.

Well... I got all the brake lines finished. Put the trans and the motor together. Had some issues figuring out which flex plate to use but we got it figured out. I bought some new motor mounts last night and I should hopefully start installing the motor tonight so I can start fabbing the trans x member.

It's obviously going slow now mostly because engine/trans stuff is not my strongest area. Good thing my old man is helping.

Good thing is I'm 100% done with the brake lines, now I need to either modify the OE pedal assembly or figure out if my 78 C10 pedals can be modified to work with the auto trans. Always something...

Getting closer. Put the motor/trans in, then found out I need different exhaust manifolds for these motor mounts. I still need to make the trans cross member and alter the rear X member I made because the driveshaft won't clear...

I totally can echo that sir !!

Showed my wife your two tone paint today.
Admittedly not usually a fan of the GM brown, but the way you did it, really makes it pop !!
Actually inspired me to save a photo of a recent CL listing as an idea to use on a later build.
This fellow did a powder blue under silver, and over sprayed the silver to blend the lines. I thought it was so subtle and clever looking that I could imagine your two colors done like this....

I'm liking the way this is turning out. Put the bed on tonight, made the trans cross member and modified the rear cross member to clear the drive shaft. Motor/trans are in. Now I have to figure out the stupid brake pedals... Always something I guess, haha.
