Have fun with the cab supports... Ones I bought fit like a horse saddle on a hog! Watch the outer rocker too, had some fitment issues on the last truck I did.. Looking good man keep it up!

Re: Twin Turbo and Dropmember equipped, Jeremy's '65
Time to start putting all the new panels on. I thought I'd go a little in more in depth showing how I fit and install some of the patch panels. Before I went full time at my own shop I was the shop manager/ lead tech at the AMD Installation Center (previously known as the Goodmark Installation Center.) Although our focus there was mainly GM and Chrysler muscle cars, the knowledge and skills I developed working with aftermarket sheet metal lends itself to these trucks we all love too. Hopefully I can pass on some tips to help everyone rid their own trucks of rust.
I rough trimmed the floor patch/inner rocker and clamped it in place to mark for final trimming. If you notice in the last pic in a previous post I left the cab supports in place even though they will be replaced. They give a good reference to start mocking the new pieces to. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image179.jpg With the floor clamped in place we find our first fitment issue. This is the edge at the back of the floor that welds to the cab corner/ backwall. The patch also didn't cover all the area that needed to be replaced due to rust. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image177.jpg The sharpie line is parallel with the edge as is, the scribe line is referenced off the backwall were the panel needs to be. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image180.jpg I chose to make a new flange instead of cutting and welding in a pie shaped wedge to move the edge to the proper location. I also added more to the top to complete the patch. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image181.jpg Much better fit now. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image182.jpg The other issue with the floor is with the flange that meets the firewall. You can see it's slopes down but should be straight. This will receive a similar fix as the rear flange but will take place when repairing the toe board/firewall. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image178.jpg |

Re: Twin Turbo and Dropmember equipped, Jeremy's '65
Everything is better with twins! The Watts link also turned out really nice. Put a 10.5 radial on the back and you have a low 10s high 9s truck. Or leave the ruber band tires and to killer burn outs.

Killer looking build !!! Nothing says nasty like a twined LS motor.

Re: Twin Turbo and Dropmember equipped, Jeremy's '65
Next on the list to replace is the kick panel. It fit pretty good without any modification.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image184.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image183.jpg After the kick panel it's time for the lower A post patch. This area has lots of surfaces to line up. After positioning the panel and trying to line up the different surfaces this was the best fit I could achieve. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image205.jpg A relief cut down the edge is all it took to line everything up. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image206.jpg A few minutes with the welder and grinder and the post is done. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image208.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...3/image207.jpg |
