Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Hey man. You mind posting a picture of the header area above your 3rd (right rear) door where the cabs are welded together? On mine I ended up cutting all the way to the B-pillar and adding that section from another pick-up. I checked on my suburban compared to my brothers cab and they both are different than above the front doors.
This is proving to be a pain to get lined up just right, by the way. |
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Awesome work! I'm ready to see how this turns out.

Got some more work done on the b pillar. I think this is the most time consuming
part so far, glad im not keeping track of my hours! I really just tied up some small details. |

Here's some more, the little notch cut out of the lower part is to clear the part of the hinge that keeps the door open. I will fix that after I get the outer skin done.

This is the layer I'm welding on the outer part of the b pillar to add strength
and copy the other side like the factory did. Now all 4 sides will be doubled 16gauge which is more than the factory did on the other side. |

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
You are getting there sir! Nice work!

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Alright, now I have another question for you. Are your B-pillars different widths? My right is 1/4" wider than what is there from the factory on the left? It freaked me out when I measured my door openings and they were 1/4" different. Luckily I set the rear of the cab from the leading edge of the B-pillars.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Great work and good job on the 4th door! You're flying right through it!

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
No, I was talking about the inside... I think mine is 5 1/2" on the right, and 5 1/4 on the left. That will be fixed when I put the lip in that the weatherstrip attaches to.
|
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
i just measured, mine is the same as yours just under a 1/4 inch difference
|
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Right now I am so glad that I squared everything up from the front of the B-pillar! I would have been SCREWED because I didn't notice the difference until this point!

I think I finally got the b-pillar wrapped up. now I can move on to the rocker that should go pretty quick its already half done. Next weekend is a long weekend so I hope to take the truck over to fellow board member boddydropped68's shop and extend the frame. I'm very exicted about doing the frame so I can finally see how this thing is going to look!

I also got the front driver door latch all finisded up. This pic is comparing it to the passenger side front door. It took 3 latches to make this one.

Here is a pic of load #2. This is the bed I picked up a few years ago, havent done anything to it exepct build the cart for it. Its a pretty clean original shortbed
the best part is the floor, its very straight no waves. All the other shortbeds I've had the bed floor would pool up water in some spots! |
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Thats a nice bed!
|
Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Adding a "c-notch" to that new frame section?

notch I already have a set of their 5 in rear drop springs, not sure how heavy this truck is going to be so we'll see how low it goes. |
