Re: PO has me PO'd
Perfect, yes I need bottom (bedfloor) to top. Check and make sure you don't need anything for patch panel. The worser shape the cheaper:lol: LMK J.

Re: PO has me PO'd
Hey J, whats some good seam sealer to pick up? I figure I'd better redo that stuff too. Looks like a few of us got to play in the shop yesterday. I get to go back and play today too:lol:.

Re: PO has me PO'd
I like to use the 1/4" strips where there is a void, paint or rustproof first, like the cowl area. I also used it where the rocker meets the floorboard at the threshold plate, water tends to drain into there. When I flange something together, and the void is smaller the brushable seam sealer is better, seems to adhere more in an over lapping situation. Which reminds me I'm out of it...thanks just put it on my todo list

Re: PO has me PO'd
Got to do some more work on the dual exhaust, 50 series! After reading all the related threads I returned the 40 series, also the wifey said,"I don't want it too loud"(main reason) They still need some adjusting to get them to hang just right. The only tailpipes I can find available are for the pickups, so I'm hoping I can modify them to fit. Any other ideas would be welcomed
Yahoo, I got two swinging doors...and one of the presents from Santa http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...replace262.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...replace263.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...replace264.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...replace268.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...replace269.jpg |

Re: PO has me PO'd
I'll try to give you the short version of how I got the parts from Tri-Pro...
Went up to visit Jon to show him that if they just stamped the one dual headlite bucket(symmetrical) for the GMC's they could offer a complete core support for us Jimmy guys. Well, his boss was impressed and told Jon to give me a core support. I left my headlite bucket there so they can start to work on it Since I wanted to put the '67 front on it some day, I checked out the differances between '69-'72, there are none. Just a extra set of holes with weldnuts at the lower portion of the '67 for a deflector to be bolted on. Since I had to remove the headlite buckets from the chevy core support to weld in the dual headlite buckets, I opted for the '67 since I would not have to remove the single headlite buckets, everything else being the same. On the way out the door, Jon said " would you like an old rusty set of fenders off the project truck". He!! yeah, obviously his definition of rusty parts and mine are not the same, as these were way better than what was going on my truck! As I'm loading up my newly found treasures, he walks over and asked if I want a rusty '67 grille. I couldn't get in my car fast enough.... After getting home and hanging my fenders on the new core support, I thought I would see what the grille would look like. To my amazement, this thing started to bolt up to the GMC '69-'72 fenders. Now I have to find some '67 buckets and headlite bezels to see if they work, then it's on the hood latch...Worst case senerio, I put my stock dual headlite grille back in, with the really nice, strait fenders Jon gave me. Tri-Plus rules |
Re: PO has me PO'd
J that is some cool stuff right there...... Sounds awesome and you can't beat the price, lol..... Good luck with the bucket thing:lol:
|
Re: PO has me PO'd
Wow...great story. I guess you where in the right place at the right time. Good score J. Now lets see that thing together. :sumo:

build spacers for under my motor mounts and seal up oil pan properly finish up some exhaust work split my alternator case and rotate it 180 degrees trying to fit this GMC grille top to the '67 grille is that enuff yet:lol: I know the the radiater looks like sh!t, but holds fluid. If pennies fall out of heaven, by some miracle, before the end of the build I plan to replace it. Radiators.com wanted 200.00, and that just ain't happening rite now... |

Re: PO has me PO'd
Got a little done, hung battery box, put dum dum in the vertical seam because it looked like a prime candidate to hold acid and water. More thinking planning on the '67 grille. I know I'm going to get flamed for cutting a rust free orig. grille [oops, surface rust only, saw it in the pic.], but the part is out there in repro. That's my story, and I'm sticking toit

Re: PO has me PO'd
Way to go.
You got a lot more done than me this weekend. I didn't even unlock the shop today, yet. Looks good. |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Next step to installing '67 chevy grille in the Jimmy. Hood latch assembly all bolted up as should be, just have to drill one hole in the bottom of the chevy grille that isn't there, so I don't see any problems there. I'm waiting for the headlite buckets and bezel to get shipped in (thanks billsbowtie) to see if there are any problems, but I don't think so... Here's what it looks like so far
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...replace293.jpg first step was to cut off the top and bracket of the chevy grille, I used my electric nibblers since I can control them better, this edge shows so I wanted it strait http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...replace287.jpg |
Re: PO has me PO'd
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...replace288.jpg
Then it was time to cut off the top of the GMC grille since I needed a flange to weld the chevy grille to, I used my cutoff wheel so I wouldn't destroy the small flange that I needed http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...replace290.jpg Then it was just a matter of bolting the flange to the stock location on the upper grille surround of the GMC pc. After fitting I realized I had to move the flange back 3/4", so I had to drille new holes at that location. Vise grips and clecos are what's holding it in now till weld |
