Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Good point. Unless you can hit the ditch straight...you may be better off waiting on the swaybars.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
they did make auxillary leafs for the stepside to give you more weight capasity. might be a good option for you if you move alot of weight around on uneven terrain

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
I was thinking of putting 3/4 ton coils all the way around also, and some stiffer shocks. But with only 6 ply tires a heavy load of dirt can not be moved without care.......

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
That'd probably help a bunch.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Well bud, right after I got done working with the truck(sifting dirt, moving it ect) it started raining so I quickly washed it and threw the tarp on. It's supposed to stop this coming week sometime so I will try to get those measurements for you. Sorry about the wait! T.J.:chevy:

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Im in no rush, so take your time. Im really considering pulling the front cross member out of the 64 frame that I'm cutting down for my matching trailer project and building it up and swapping it out.

OK, so sway bar is now prepped and painted. New bushings in place, new mounts here...so I'll go pick up some new grade 8 bolts today to top it off. Should be ready to install soon.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
:chevy:Yeah, but do you really need an excuse to by another truck? I can always use another truck....just don't need. But thats my big problem...wants before needs sometimes. Id like to do a 63 burb or a one ton dually as my next project...or a crew cab is high up there too.

Here you go aerotruk63. This is the litter bin that I have. I have the underdash mounted litter container also. I put it in the truck sometimes, cruise ins and such...really a pain if you have a passenger in the middle and may even get moved to the passenger side like yours is if I have shifter clearance issues (don't anticipate). This one mounts on the transmission hump...just rests there held in place by the sand bags.

Also have the 2 speed wiper w/washer ready to install. Just have to figure out the wiring on the white & pink wires. The plug should go to the switch and the single white wire on the back of the switch should move from the one post to the single post on the back of the 2 speed switch. Any help is appreciated.
Will be nice to have two speeds and the washer option. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Great, 63 c-10! Next project for me will be a 66 with a 9 foot(longhorn) stepside, 4 wheel drive, 40 inch tires, crew cab, and a 6.7 hopped up cummins! That's gonna be a looooooooong truck! Just the way I want it and Lifted to!

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
No....my original 63 I had when I was 16 (family got it when I was 10 or 11), had the two speed wiper (non washer) and it worked fine for me then, so it'll probably be ok now too. If not, I can always add it later. Anything will be an upgrade from the single wiper speed now.

Been doing more night driving and that makes the standard rear view mirror no good with all the glare I get. I only see hood, so I found an OEM day/night mirror that was an early take off in great shape that will be going on.
Hoping this solves the issue...will keep you posted. Also have anew master cylinder to install once the rain stops... |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thanks, be getting into some of the metal work soon and then paint. Its been a slow project, but even a little progress is progress. I follow all of your builds....some really nice work.

Alright finally got some measures here. They are crappy but as good as I could do holding a cam and measuring tape at the same time. 1st picture is the distance of the lowest hole from the tip of the coil.

Hope these helped some what and once you get this side drilled, bolt the sway bar on and you can line up the other side and mark holes as well as the frame. T.J.

Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Thanks for the pics TJ. Been out with a cold the last two days. Ill go out and pull some numbers once im better. Good news is the rain finally broke after near a week, so maybe I'll get 30 minutes tomorrow to get the master cylinder installed and the brakes bled.
|
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Nice! When I changed the master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and pads and srings out it made a heck of a difference! One thing for your info, If you convert to a dual bowl master cylinder( front controls front and rear controls rear) then if your brake line goes out you still have brakes.

Finally got this cold to break...so back on the brakes tonight. MC installed, just have to bleed the lines.
Did get the belts back from the sewing shop....great thing about being close to Ft. Bragg is there are plenty of alteration shops that deal w/webbing due to all the military gear. Restored a set of OEM buckles that had bad webbing and had some new webbing installed. The new color webbing will match the paint that I will do the interior/exterior in, so they are for another day down the road. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Those seat belts rock! Nice job! Just gave me an idea. Hope your new master cylinder helps.
|
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
The OEM buckles are hard to find, and if you find them w/good webbing.....last set I saw was around $450!!
Find some nice salvageable buckles and you can purchase the proper webbing very affordable. I have probably around $80-$100 in mine, which included the rechrome, my paint, webbing and the sewing. They came out just like new...other than the blue webbing which was not a factory color. All the OEM buckles are color matched to the webbing. |
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Mine aren't all that rare cause mine is a 66. Do to a law change cars and trucks came stock with them.
|
Re: 1963 C-10 in NC
Those seat belts really came out nice Jon. Didn't realize that's what the stock buckle looked like.
