So yesterday and today I finished up the front inner and outer fenders, little it of cutting, welding and sanding. Also over about 3 days got the top of the box sides all welded up to the round tube. Tig welded 160" 1" stitch at a time, bit of sanding and done. Today I made up the front shock mounts. I'm using front s-10 shocks. They are Monroe load adjusting.

what do you know? I just looked at those shocks the other day, I have a lowered blazer that is a little jouncy even with new springs and heavy duty shocks. you'll have to let me know how they work, I passed over them for their high cost but wondered.

Back in the shop, I put the truck on the floor. I made up the K frame tubes and rear 45* supports. The left 45* support is different because the trans cooler is going there. I used 2X4X1/8" tube, frame is 2X5X3/16".

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Not much to show with pictures today. I finished welding up the inside of the frame now that the cab is off. Also welded the exhaust tip completely on, tabs to hold exhaust to frame and primed frame. Plumed in the temp gauge sensor for the trans and fittings for trans cooler. Should be lots tomorrow!!

Today I painted the new frame pieces and running board frame. I also finished up the exhaust. Welded in an EGT bung, put the turbo gasket in and sealed up the cup flanges. Then as I put it all together I put wrap on the exhaust. The wrap I used is rated at 1400*. (Note) this is very itchy stuff the insides of my fingers itch like hell. Wear rubber gloves.

Today I got the transmission cooler mounted and plumed in. Then I got the fuel lines and brake line bent up and fastened. This is the nickel coated line very nice to work with hardest part is getting it straight. I'm trying to get all the under cab stuff done so I can get the cab back on. Maybe tomorrow.

You are flying! Looks good. What transmission cooler is that?

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Thanks I get lots done when I work afternoon shift. The trans cooler is a Derale 13950. It can be used by itself and comes with a thermal couple so it just does it's own thing when needed. Also mount it anywhere.

Thanks 99 I got the lines close to perfectly straight just took a while.
Well after spending 34 hrs working on the truck last week I got the cab back on for the last time. I mounted the air horn, ran all my power wires to the rear. I also got rid of the old steering and put the new stuff on with the drop tie rods.

Then seam sealed the cab and gave the floor and fire wall a good coating of rubberized rocker guard. I then ran the transmission wires into the cab.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Ya I went 100% on it because the cab was sitting out side. I had friday off work so that helped.

Well I didn't think I would get out to the shop last night. I got the rear shock mounts made and installed. I used s-10 shocks. They are angled for 2 reasons. With the air bag over top of the axle it makes the rear very stiff with little pressure so I did not want the shocks to have full power. Also that's the only spot they fit lol. Jumping on the frame at ride height seems good.

I forgot to show this when I put my new steering components on. These are no notch drop tie rods. When aired down the stock ones where hitting the frame hard. These have 1/4" clearance all down. So I can still turn probably 3/4 the way to lock. riding really low.

Today I got the fuel feed line plumed in. I added a T and ball valve to aid in priming my huge fuel filters at the back. Fuel does not return to tank unless injection pump is spinning. ie: motor running or cranking.

Interesting, I've never seen tie rods stepped like that. Where did they come from?

Re: My 52 GMC Build

I found them at: silver star customs. They seem like really good quality. Might help give someone here an option.

So I was talking to my friend tonight about when we are spraying the truck and how we are going to get it done. I will get all the body pieces finished next week and he will take them to his work and start prepping. Then Oct 30 we are planning to take the truck and spray everything over that weekend. The interior will go '79 gmc charcoal and the rest is flat clear.

they look like a cast piece, which makes me think they are an off the shelf tie rod from another vehicle. maybe silverstar changes the taper on like a dodge caravan tie rod?
