Quick update. Got both inner rear tubs made and sorta mocked up for now. Cut the inner chevrolet panel out of a tailgate for the raised bed filler at the back tailgate. Then we made a fuel filler in the same panel. DIESEL FUEL ONLY. Thanks CHIZZLER. Happy 4th everyone.

Worked on the tailgate area yesterday. Went to my local junk yard and got some hardware from a couple tailgates to get some straps figured out. What we did was cut some 1 1/2" round bar and tapped them for spacers for the the top mounts. We then took the Bracket out of the tailgate that the chain would hold onto in the open position and re-tapped it for the new size that was bigger. Cables were purchased new and measure 21". We cut the flanges down on both sides of the tailgate. Next will be some sorta hidden latch in the tailgate. CHIZZLER

Little update. Had to fix the drivers side tail light panel. Cut a piece out of A donor and made it fit. Also noticed about 16" of bedside was separated at the pinch weld between the top and bottom area. Got my new Ridetech f9100 bags for the rear and looking at what's needed to make them fit. The firestone 9000's just didn't have the lift this truck needs. You can see the difference from the pic. We may consider putting A bridge on the rear end and triangulating the rear. Don't like how much the axle shifts over with the pan hard bar. Here is a pic I found of my truck photoshopped before I got it. Thanks CHISELER.

Re: 1961 Crew Max

Re: 1961 Crew Max

Thanks everyone for checking in. My work load has been crazy lately. Trying to get away for one day on the weekend is difficult. My business is really getting in the way of building this truck. LOL CHIZZLER.

Few updates. Got the new/used firestone F9100 bags for the rear and after mocking them up and airing up A few times this happened. Oh well. New roll pan fit pretty good with some minor massaging. Drivers side bed panel had some rust and oil canning in the rear so it was replaced with another piece and some heat and shrinking. Next we fit the front bumper. We ended up tucking it closer in and up a bit to hide the front frame rails. We cut the frame horns and raised them and smoothed out all the bumper bolts. Overall A good fit. CHIZZLER

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Sucks about the air bag. But the truck is looking real good. Do you think you over traveled, or over pressured, or just bag bag?
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Better now than later on the air bag. Looking good.
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Nice work! That looks like there was very tedious work on that bed side. I give you props on that! The bag looks like a bad deal for sure. But, like already stated, better it happened now rather than later.
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Some real nice progress.Like it all.
|
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Thanks guys. We only put about 150 psi to the bags. These bags must have 2 layers because the bubble is still full of air. The lift of the bags is amazing adding about 3"- 4" of lift. Only things we had to do was drill a new hole in the center of the bag brackets and put a bend in the pan hard bar so it would clear the pumpkin with the extra height it goes now. CHIZZLER

Some new progress. Got the rear bumper tucked up and in. All bumper bolts will be filled. Might have to raise the top opening for the license plate on the roll pan. Going to make a filler piece to hide the bumper brackets. Also got the firestone F9100's installed and now have about 10" to the rockers. Front doors were blasted and need inner door bottom patches. More to come. Thanks CHIZZLER

Re: 1961 Crew Max
It's looking very nice! I like those dollies too!

Today we worked on the rear bumper area. We made a filler piece similar to (boosted bertha) build. We used 1 1/4" flat bar and bent it to follow the shape of the bumper. Also cut out the license plate box and made a new one and raised it. Thanks CHIZZLER.
