Re: AD Truck Project
So far so good. It needs the usual cab corners, which I have from my previous cab. The floors need patching a bit, but that is all expected stuff.
Looking at the interior last night, it is dirty, but it looks like all the painted trim is peeling and seems like it will clean up real nice. I am hesitating to take down the headliner. I don't want mouse pooh dropped on my head. |
Re: AD Truck Project
well it seems like you won't have to do the cowls or kick panels which is good.
just get a pitch fork and start ripping that out! so you are cutting up another cab to fix this one? or you had patch panels for another cab? I wish you were closer if that is the case, I would buy the cab off you. |
Re: AD Truck Project
I have another gmc cab at my folks that is pretty well stripped. I may try to use some metal off it. Or just get some metal and patch the floor. I guess it depends how bad it is after I get it cleaned up a bit more.

Re: AD Truck Project
nice progress man!!

Re: AD Truck Project
Man you got lucky on the rust issue so far. Keep the lucky streak alive.

Re: AD Truck Project
Thanks guys. I am sure trying.
When we bought the truck it had no suspension and was laying in mud. Knowing what I know now about the guy, and what I have seen on the truck it was not laying there long. He sold all the suspension from under the truck to make a quick buck. |
Re: AD Truck Project
Short night of work tonight. I got the core support off. Add two more busted bolts, more like a u-bolt this time, to the list. I then got the front motor mount loose and freed up. I went to start on the rear mounts and the bolt just spins on the drivers side. With all the extra linkage stuff, it is kinda hard to see what is going on, on the top side. I will give it another go when I have more light. I do believe I am going to try and add some bracing to the core support when it all goes back together. I did look under the cab while I had it jacked up, and it does appear like the hole in the floor are very big.

Re: AD Truck Project
Think you will have to put floors in it?
|
Re: AD Truck Project
I do not think it will need a full floor, unless i find more damage. I think I may be able to just patch it. Fingers crossed.

Re: AD Truck Project
Haha, cool, if it was a 60-66 id have some pans ;)
|
Re: AD Truck Project
One hole was on the passenger side, but only seemed to be in one of the ribs. I could probably transplant that rib from my other cab. After I get some more weight off it, I will roll it out in the light for a better look.

Re: AD Truck Project
Cool, im going to hopefully get my buddies cherry picker tonight and try and get the engine and trans pulled out of the burb but we'll see how that goes... when you need the picker by?
|
Re: AD Truck Project
I am flexible. Beggers cannot be choosers.
I guess my next tasks are getting the rear of the motor loose and figuring out where in the crap I am going to put it after it is out. |

Thanks to baclay for the donation to the cause! |
Re: AD Truck Project
I painted my rear wheels, rotors, and spindles flat black today. Everything is still taped up in this pics.

Re: AD Truck Project
Lookin good!
|
Re: AD Truck Project
I have half a mind on the motor to just give it away to whom ever will bring a cherry picker and then haul it off.
|
Re: AD Truck Project
What motor? The inline 6?
When you need the picker? |
Re: AD Truck Project
Yup. It is missing the head, everything else is there.
|
Re: AD Truck Project
I'm glad to see you finally got those rotors out of Scott's garage

Re: AD Truck Project
I hear ya. I think I am gonna donate the block to Joe and Scott to ride in the back of their parts burb.
I think I will take off the generator and starter and hold on to those. I can put them in the shed until someone needs them. |
Re: AD Truck Project
Goodies have been procured. I forgot to ask when I will get them though lol.
|
Re: AD Truck Project
No pics for this update. I have one shock mounts off the front. It seems it was bolted on. Maybe a repair, since the passenger side has rivets. I have the steering box off the truck and fighting the column now. I meant to work on the last bolt that holds in the motor in but I got side tracked.

If I had the money sure. I would assemble an allstar team of forum users. But I am not, so the bribery of lunch and friendship to the locals will have to do.
