Kabwe, It is always good to see it in primer rather than all those different shades of the metal and it also feels the same all over when you run your hand over it. Keep up the great work.

Thanks man and it great to have primer on this thing. I still have some body work to do but its nice to have that epoxy primer on that bare metal. I do filler work over epoxy primer so its all going as planned.

I really leaning towards green, but I also like this very soft yellow I've seen. I've bought a quart of a couple of greens (one metallic and one solid) that I can spray on some panels to see if I like it.

Hey Fat Mike,

Where the heck have you been? You use to post all the time and now nothing. How is your truck coming along?

Haven't done anything in awhile because I have been working a couple jobs. It just for the summer until my girlfriend and kids gets back to school. Just been working on small project, practicing my welding, and hopefully getting back to the truck in the next week or so!

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build

It's got to be a great feeling when you lay down primer. It's that transitional step from fabrication to bodywork. The dash looks like came that way from the factory, and it'll look great when it's in color. Are you going to try to use all the cool dash trim that the '55 cars had, like the flat pieces with all the little bow-ties in it? If you could pull that off, it'll look awesome.

So you're thinking green, huh? Nice choice. I have been seeing a lot of very off-the wall solid colors lately like browns, tans, and greens that I really like. I like metallics and candys, but there's something about a solid color that when it's done right, it looks like the car was dipped. So deep and rich that it looks like it was molded in that color.

That tan Suburban and the pale green delivery at the Brothers show had that look.

Re: Kabwe's aka Bam's build

Chevyrestoguy,

You are correct the dash will be fully dress like a belair dash, but not the one with the little bow ties. It will be more like this

Anyway you can remove your dash and send it to me for my truck,I figured since you got that new welder that you would be able to fab another one up for yourself in no time at all.

Swapmeets and ebay are a good place to start. I got mine on ebay and a friend mine found one in much better condition at a local swapmeet.

Yeah I love them. Especially 55 and 56. But I know someone with a beautiful 57 check this one out. I'm really not a 57 fan but I have to admit his is really sweet.

Last week end at the Emmett Idaho show I talked at length with a guy who had a 56 Nomad survivor he purchased at age 17 in 1961. It was his dd for years, he told stories of 4 kids in the back on blankets and towing a camping trailer all over the west. It was black and white with b/w interior. Only changes over the years where front seat upolstrey to match existing and a good exterior repaint in the late 80's.

OrrigG,

My buddy that owns this car purchased it for 25 dollars in 1965. He was 17 and it was his first car. Its went through many changes throughout the years. He told me when he was in Nam he use to have the car moved to different family members houses to make sure no one got tired of it and sold it.lol Imagine being in war and worried about a car.lol He has a lot of rods, but this one he will never sale. That car is not going anywhere it survived Nam, and a marriage and its still here.lol He is my Tri5 guru and is a very talented builder. He should be, he's had the car for 45 years.

Hey Bam, I thought about you Wednesday evening. I was coming from my parents home in western North Carolina back to South Carolina and a Blazer passed me with a license plate that said "MRS BAM". I know its a long way from you and had a NC plate.
You don't have a secret life in NC, if you do you can come down and work on my truck.

Hey Bajabob,

Its okay if you like red and white, yes its been done to much for my taste, but so what its your car. Its a reason why people paint their cars red it looks great. I just don't want to be another red car or truck thats the only reason I will not paint anything red. Red looks great on almost anything.
So you like red? Here's another buddy of mine car just for you.

Yeah man I'm just not a 57 fan at all. I think the 55 is the most hotrod looking and the 56 is the prettiest and I'm just not a fan of the 57 at all. But hey that just me, I seen nice ones but I still prefer the 55 and 56. I know that this is rare because most people I know love the 57 the most.

The wheels on the red car are Boyd Magnetos and the ones on my car are Coy's but you are right they are very similar but not the same price. The Boyd are more expensive.
