So I have went through a bunch of extra clusters sitting around and I had an idea....Why do I have to have green blinkers?!!!!! So I had to change it, I went and took the extra "High Beam" Plastic and cut them into blinker plastics so now my blinkers are blue :)

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Haha yup thats my plan too!! I actually did some tunning of the carb now that I have a vacuum gauge...Just wish I had a tach so i could know where its idling...Damn idle screw is basically backed all the way out...This learning stuff is rough lol

77ChevySharkBite 11-22-2012 12:10 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Lol I feel you bro trust me, I'm just hoping I'm just a semi guru after its all done and can do this stuff while looking at it like it's back of my hand, does all your gauges work?

JRANGER 11-22-2012 12:12 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Yeah, All my gauges do work...The only one thats questionable is the fuel gauge because its a bit jumpy.....So im left wondering sometimes...

Just no tach in the truck

77ChevySharkBite 11-22-2012 12:16 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Mine does it too whenever my gas starts getting low kind of mind boggling actually but I still have my readings so I'm not too concerned lol be careful with putting a tach because that was a little bit of my issue with mine, my cousin that's a mechanic suggested me to not use it at all, just a little bit to think about I'm tempted to plug it back up but I don't want to get back to square one with my motor not running again

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

O im not going to put a tach in i just need to get a tach to test from the engine bay...lol

77ChevySharkBite 11-22-2012 12:20 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Lol oh okay yeah I'm going to want to get mine looked at too sound like it was fine I don't know enough about carbs to start trying to even tweak with it lol

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

HAHA! I dont know anything about them but I read about adjusting them so thats what i did...Just not sure where its idling

77ChevySharkBite 11-22-2012 12:31 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Oo I see, yeah it seems like it's fine but yet again I really can't say yes or no just yet because I just got it running again, and it has open headers right now so don't want to run it too much and throw a valve or cylinder

i hear that

THE "10" SILVERADO 11-22-2012 03:35 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Adjustments arent to hard but as long as the engine doesnt die you shouldnt worry abut your idle. Heck ive heard the saying "the cheapest lope is just turning the idle down". Sharkbite, you shouldnt have a problem running open headers...id only worry if there wasnt any exhaust hooked up to move the temps away from the engine bay

Got a little bit done today....

Started removing the paint off the fenders and also painted the inside of the one Rust-oleum gloss black..... Trying to decided if I need to do more welding and flap disc the weld holes or use a little bondo to smooth out the small weld spots from the trim

cubber 11-23-2012 11:33 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

cubber 11-24-2012 01:19 AM

awesome :)

cubber 11-24-2012 01:29 AM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

I had no idea how to hook mine up, but there were some instructions I looked at, but they weren't real clear. I was at a buddy's house who is a mechanic and I converted my truck to HEI and hooked up the tach, and just asked him any questions. It was simple, I just get a little nervous sometimes when it comes to wiring lol.

JRANGER 11-24-2012 01:35 AM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

yeah i understand that....Im just learning everything from the ground up so Im always weary of doing things....lol

Well it was a bit brisk today and below the 50 degrees recommended for painting but i fired up the wood burning stove and did it anyway...

So I painted the back of the second fender and also finished removing the paint from the front of the first. Then I let the fenders sit and started working on the hood hinges I grabbed when i got the fender.. So I wired the crap out of then and I may live to regret it but I painted them red... Now its fairly cold out so im hoping they dry by morning but its hard to say.... Im thinking the red/black look will be a nice accent but maybe not we will see

cubber 11-24-2012 09:31 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Either way, I think your paintwork was good quality. It all looks good to me.

JRANGER 11-24-2012 09:37 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Just some rust-oleum nothing special...Not sure how well the red is gonna stick though....

Thanks though

JRANGER 11-25-2012 12:52 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Well it was definetly too cold...The hinges are still tacky this morning...I have them sitting out in the sun to get them to dry. Hopefully they will dry in the next hour so i can flip them and hit the other side

77ChevySharkBite 11-25-2012 03:28 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

They look sweet man, definitely enjoying seeing the little things, you make me want to step up my game another level lol but its back to square one with me again truck in a non running state.

JRANGER 11-25-2012 03:30 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

what happened? why is it not running?

the red looks good but i didnt get the hinges as clean as i though...a few spots didnt hold the paint well but most is all good..

77ChevySharkBite 11-25-2012 03:34 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Well its either the started or ignition, went and drove it literally all day yesterday cranked fine ran fine everything was running tip top shape, and this morning went to go drop off some scrap and get rope, went to a part store to get some rope turned it off came to start it up again made a click noise but didn't start then after that nothing no power to the gauges or anything had battery checked battery is fine.

i hear you, just think man like me i ain't perfect at nothing I do, practice makes perfect though

JRANGER 11-25-2012 03:40 PM

dang thats crazy

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

oh well part of owning a truck the age that it is. just thankful I wasn't across town when it all went down, and also that i was at a part store thankfully. but a guy suggested a way to check the starter so I'm going to climb under the truck in a few minutes and test it.
