Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Welcome back Craig!! Glad to see you making progress on the old girl. Mine should be seeing the road for the first time ever in three weeks.

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
I agree with all the guys Craig... nice to see you back posting again. Hope you have a great spring.

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Thanks guys, good to be back on it, hope to get things moving forward soon...
I tagged onto a post about cab mount bushings, thought it would be good to add onto an existing post, doesn't look like many have noticed the thread pop up again, could some of my... followers review and post their advice on the following thread? http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=632118 |
Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Nice work on the home renovations, now let's give the truck some lovin. Looking forward to the progress on it.

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Thanks rustbucket, yours is one of my favorite builds on the forum....
Wouldn't you know that something is always going to come up and keep me from working on the truck... I have a leak in my basement, tore off the drywall, etc. to find a crack that needs to be addressed. Fixing the crack is the small part of the job, putting it all back together with new flooring, lighting, etc. will unfortunately keep me busy for a while. I do expect to have a productive spring/summer/fall on the truck though |
Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Well Craig after we had 24hrs of heavy rain last week if your basement has a leak it would show. Good luck on fixing it all up.

Camping in upstate NY earlier in the month, picked up some goods @ D-S Auto, Alan Groves Alternator bracket, 3 groove crank pulley, power steering pulley, oil filter adapter and filter. Accessory drive mocked up, just need to dismantle and paint a few items, reassemble, then time to put the engine back in. Also recently purchased an American Auto Wire classic update harness, and a laundry list of other bits and pieces. Should be able to devote some time to the truck starting in a couple of weeks:metal:

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Craig, new parts are always fun. It'll be nice to see you back at it.
Where did you camp, Finger Lakes area? |
Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Great purchase on the Alan Grove parts. I have their stuff on my truck and it works perfectly and lasts indefinitely. Good luck!

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Craigerr, glad to see you resurface and getting some truck time in...:metal:

I have been making small bits of progress here and there, and have run into an issue with my clutch linkage. I poached these pictures form McMurphy`s thread. I believe I am having the same issue. Stud threads into the boss nicely, but the linkage was nearly impossible to install, and just does not look right. Engine is a basic 350 crate engine. I don`t have any fab skills, hoping Mike reads this and kept the dimensions for his little bracket...

couple more of the driver side, really gives the brain a work out... Hey, don't forget to throw that nut on before you make your first bend...

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
That fuel line looks sweet, your very good at that. :)
|
Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Nice work on the tube bending
|
Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
:agree:....Way better with that tubing bender than I am. Great looking work.
|
Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Thanks guys, did I put the brake hardware back together correctly?
We do some pretty intricate tube bending for some OEM customers, I will post some pictures. |
Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Hi Craig Glad to see your still at it!! Love the fuel line. As far as I see the brakes seem to be correct.

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Get the boys at your work to bend those lines up? ;)
|
Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
I did the lines on my truck. I have done to big tubes on the garbage trucks, but generally the guys do these.
|
Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Nice job they look good.
|
Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Beautiful tubing work! Congrats!!

Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Update!
The last work that I did on the truck was the brake lines, haven't touched it in forever. So, she is for sale, and just like that, it is sold to one of my closest friends. Steve will be taking over from here. I will live vicariously through him from here on. We are actually moving the truck to his place tonight. I will sign in and catch up on all of you guys from time to time. Cheers to all! |

Well, I'm the Steve that bought the truck from Craig and will be picking up where he left off. I know I have a long road ahead of me but I'm looking forward to having this baby rolling someday.
I've been peeling through everyone's builds and see a lot of impressive work and I'm sponging it all up. I'll be sharing progress through this thread since it holds the beginning of the truck's restoration life. There's still a ways to go and it all seems daunting at times but to paraphrase a line from Johnny Cash, I'll do it one piece at a time. Cheers fellas, I look forward to contributing to the board. To start things off, here is where she currently rests: |

An ever so small amount of progress this weekend.... I previously extracted a broken bolt from the nose of the crankshaft and this weekend I reassembled a few items. After ordering a harmonic balancer install tool from Amazon (since no stores in town had one to rent or buy) I was able to reinstall the harmonic balancer and then continue with the crank pulley, the fan, and the belts including adding anti-seize to the metal to metal connections.
One question I do have is, how close can the belts be to other items? I'm a bit concerned with the clearance between the belt coming from the alternator and one of the bolt heads for the power steering pump bracket as there is only about 1/16" clearance. |
Re: CRGRS 66 – Winter Build Thread
Yeah a 1/16" is a bit close. Most of the time on a long belt like that the movement will be up and down, but they can move a little side to side. About all you could do if there is contact is remove that PS pump bracket, counter sink that hole and install a allen socket flat head bolt.
