Well no work on the truck today, but I did get up early to drive to Rian's to give him his birthday present .then drive up to Bexleyheath to purchase our tickets. Then onto Deptford to get some paint for one of my motorbikes at the same time as getting Rian's paint for his truck . This was the temperature that greeted me outside this morning .

Popped in to pick up a load of small boxes and bubble wrap to send EBay sales off with today, as well as some other mechanical parts I will be listing on Ebay, also got the latest tow bar Martin had liberated yesterday, the two of us loaded it behind the seat, easy job.

Back home I unloaded it and nearly caused myself a hernia..... Thanks Mate !!

After weeks of waiting for the planets to align, today it all came together.

My friend Ashley in Portsmouth had given me some tarpaulins he had gained a few years ago, to use for the truck and covering it etc.
So, via the power of "Pony Express" a mate of his delivered them to Bridges Auto breakers in Peas Pottage for me to collect today.

I picked Martin up early as we were going to rummage through some of the cars in the yard for bits to use in our builds. I was also hoping to find a Jeep Cherokee there as I need a pair of door stops for my doors and an aircon pipe for my buddy Maverick in South Africa who needs one. Unfortunately, it turned out they have no Cherokees at all.

When we got there, the guys had the tarps which went back to the car.
Next up we were searched,and let loose in the yard.

Martin went straight for the Ford Mondeo's as he knew he wanted an oval dash clock to build into his truck.
Unfortunately, all the cars there were stripped of their clocks, except for one, which he managed to to get out.

Next up he showed me the very cool retractable cup holder that seems to be fitted only to the Mondeo's and three of the bodies there had them, so we took them all out. after this we walked around the yard, scavenging Jaguars, Mercedes, BMW and other brands looking for bits to remove, eventually we got back to where we started, and another scan around the outsides of the wrecks yielded a broken out dash under the snow, under the rear of another car.... JACKPOT !!!! A dash face with the clock still stuck in it with the plug and wiring attached, as well as another cup holder.
I plan on making another metal section below my dash to fit all the gauges I removed previously, and each end will get a "hidden" cup holder.

Next up it was back to the office and in anticipation for getting scapled for the parts we had picked, we put them on the counter......

£2.00 per item..... so $3.00 per item..... WTF ? Thats cheap. SCORE !!!

These guys really are not greedy. Which makes for a nice change.

Last thing for the day was to get a Bacon Buttie and a coffee at a service station vendor.

Thanks for posting Rian. The reason for wanting the clock out of a Ford Mondeo is it matches the face of my after market clocks . The good thing about them is the plastic over the front comes off,enabling you to get to the face and blank out the ford logo. Rian suggested putting a little Chevy decal over it . So next job will to to sorce a very small Chevy decal .

Funny how you reference millimeters, here in southern Ontario we count the snow in centimeters, if you travel an hour north of here, you start counting feet of snow. Even a little south of here in Buffalo New York, they get lake effect snow, they get feet of snow at times. Difficult to imagine, but you want to talk about grinding to a halt, in Buffalo this past December they had 5-6 feet of snow, there were people stranded on highways for 3+ days.

I shovelled my back deck tonight in order to grill dinner in -8C (17F), how Canadian is that!!!

Lots of well fried bacon on a thickly buttered white bread roll (can use sliced white bread) with either red sauce (Ketchup) or Brown sauce (HP Sauce)

Keeping an eye out half the butter and sauce does not end up on your chest or new trainers.

Well when I got home from work this evening ,there was a parcel waiting for me . The parts I had ordered from Top Banana had arrived . But it wasn't as simple as that ,Top Banana for some reason don't deliver to the UK . So the parts have to be sent to Don (Ta2Don) in Searcy AR he then very kindly re addresses the parcel then he goes to his local post office and sends them to the UK for me . Once again trying to restore these trucks without the help of some very kind Americans would be a lot harder . So Thank you Don

I relied heavily on Family and Friends when I was living on Terceira, Island which is located 900 miles off the coast of Portugal. I was there in the military and although we had all the amenities of any AF Base, there were also shortages on certain items. So packages from stateside made life on the island a bit easier. ;)

MINI ROAD TRIP !!

Well, it was a trip, and it was by road.

Got contacted by our import agent this week to say our bits had landed and been unpacked. Duties and shipping to be paid on collection.

So Martin and I set off early, also to meet up with Paul Y en-route before collecting our parts from Ron.

One of the items we collected was our 67-72 rear bumpers.

NOW QUESTION TIME.... ???

This is relevant to Martin and I as we both bought the same bumpers.

I never realized that there were more holes in them than the two bumper bolt holes.

On top of that, I feel a bit pisssed off as there "extra" holes let down the chrome and the show...... It looks like the extra hole was laser cut, and the chrome around this hole is rubbish, or non existent.

Any advice on my perception here happily accepted.

i envy you guys for your friendship and how you share your truck lives. over here it seems to be work work work work, eat, sleep, work work work...

taking time out to share is priceless, as they say.

on that weird hole on your bumpers... my guess is that is where the platers attached to dip. since theres no chrome around the hole, they must have bolted through that hole to the arm that lowers bumpers into the vats. just guessing...

looking forward to you coming stateside Martin, we'll have a blast.

I agree on the hats off.

Thing is, Martin and I both ride bikes (often like hooligans) and could as easily be in the same situation after one off.......

Russell was 6'4" standing and used to work as a bouncer/doorman after hours to make up for the basic shortfall in fire service salaries, so a big guy, still muscular, but because his injury was quite high, he does not have all the upper body strength needed to do stuff like use power tools etc.

So the least we can do is help him out as he could have dragged our arses out of a fire, or from under a car wreck in the past.

This is a guy who served us in the past.

Today Martin and I went over to Disasterbus, Kerry's place after I "rented" his Mondeo ST Estate to collect a 1.97 meter by 1.0 meter rolling door steel filing cabinet for my garage, and to check out his Stepside C10 Chevy.

First things first was a thorough inspection and critique of Kerry's truck, which it turns out, is even better than shown on his thread, he really got a clean, low mileage truck.
And I loved the 175/80 -15 tyres on the rear, they do suit the arches just right.

After 3 hours, coffee, inspecting his Classic Mk1 Mini Cooper, pleasing/teasing the hound and a load of chatting it started to come down with sleet and some rain mixed in.......

We decided it was time to hand him back to his family, and load up the cabinet and head for home with our bounty..... Which included the cabinet, and large Nike shoe box full of American car magazines and best of all in my book, a manual fire alarm bell which will be mounted on the side of the house on the wall for Post men, deliveries etc in case I am down at the garage.

When we got in, I started up the oven to cook the pizzas Nicola had left for us, as she has gone to Paris for a week with her daughter.
While we were over at Kerry's place we noticed that his filler cap was not a locking cap, fortunately I had a locking GM unit, unused, that Martin had given me to try on my tank, on which it does not fit for some reason, so I fetched it, and some of the other ones, now Kerry just needs to choose the right one for his truck, then it will be out in the post along with the sheet metal glove box inner I will be cutting, folding for him tomorrow.

I've been following along on your C10 adventures. I too have purchased a 67-72 rear bumper for my 63. After reading about the quality issues you mention above, I checked the bumper that I purchased last week. Surprise, surprise... I have the same issue. My bumper was an "OER" brand, that I picked up at Summit Racing on my drive home from my vacation in Florida. Returning the bumper isn't really an option for me due to shipping cost from Canada, or I could drive it back, 5 hours each way.

I like Ta2Don's idea of adding a bumper bolt to fill each hole. An easy fix.

The most disappointing thing is if you have followed my thread you would have seen how much we have spent with them .

Thanks for the above reply Johnny, I think companies like this rely on many customers just putting up with bad service.

The best way to deal with them would be solidarity in voting with your feet and wallet, but usually we do not do that.

Still, after the rain there is sunshine.......:waah:

Quality is ****e, and we will be painting the rears of the bumpers with Hammerite as well, as most seem to rust from behind first, so prevention etc....

However, this quality issue has allowed us to investigate and seek other solutions to the holes.

One of them Martin found ( I think he is part Bloodhound ) is very small LED Spotlights that fit the holes with a neat ally nut/neck and even if you need to enlarge the holes by a few mm's it would be fine as it already is "damaged" there.

Both of us have to reverse down the side of our homes to park up in our garages, as the properties here are often narrow, and in my case, it would take a 27 point turn to get the truck turned around at the garage, so having reversing lights makes a load of sense.

In the UK we need to have separate turn signals, so my reverse lights have become turn signals, leaving the truck without adequate reversing lights for when I come home late from car shows etc.
The bumper holes are too low to put turn signals into as well for safety as they would be out of sight.

So the search goes on to find a perfect replacement or filler for the holes.

Well with all the other jobs now done ,hand controls for Russell and taking Rian to collect his cabinet, Saturday came and went . So with nothing planed for Sunday and the other half waking up with a cold . I know it's wrong to be pleased that your other half wants to stay in all day feeling unwell but, that ment truck time so off to the garage I went . After getting the panels from top banana via Arkansas (thanks Don ) . I started getting the kick panel done and fitted the panel Rian made for me

Yes he is .I had to re make the centre section after getting the lower panels from Don . I did use the upper panel he made though it's good to have a friend that shares the same interest

Thanks Clem . I only want to do this once,so I try to do it correctly. It did hold me up waiting for the panels but I think it was worth the wait to get it right

The wait was also good to help clear all the snot and tears you cried when you started to open up your can of worms. I was wishing for a lottery win at one point, just so I could get you a decent cab...... In the USA most people would have thrown away your cab, but you persevered.
