So we are still waiting to get the ECM back from Larry's Elec to see if that is the issue with the Engine Shutdown. In the meantime I did get my tag for Cecil. Think it will fit in perfect.

SKYMANGS:
After 6 hours of fruitless engine diagnostics I thought I should actually accomplish something today. So, Cecil's new arm rests and inside visor went in today. These are 55-59 two tone arm rests in Silver and Black. They look right at home here though! |

Cecil is still trying to be diagnosed for his engine ailment. Until then he did get a few minor details buttoned up. New Visor and a NOS 58/59 GMC day/night mirror.

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Cool parts. ECM didn't fix the drivability concern?

Chris was determined to get Cecil running so he trailered him 3 hours each way to get diagnostics. I will let him go into details but I am just happy that Cecil lives. Hopefully we can get a test drive video up sometime today or tomorrow! |
Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Arrrg! Just got off the phone with Chris and I'll be darned if Cecil's transmission is busted. Third gear is shot. On a lighter note Chris did say that it runs like a bat out of hell in first and second gear.

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Hate to hear about the tranny, but glad the engine is going good...Jim

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Darn, what's that old saying "if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all"
Pretty soon all the bugs will be out and you'll be cruising with a $h!t eating grin. |
Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Jim; you already know all about my luck with craigslist transmissions!!!!

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
OK, so here is the whole story on the TPI quitting issue. I took the truck 4hrs to West Plains, MO. To see my buddy, the be all and end all of GM stand alone fuel injection, Brendan Patten (he operates the web site "lt1swap.com" and is an industry leader in developing software and pioneering new stand alone swaps. Only the best for Cecil!
After discussing all the steps I had taken, he was scratching his head as well. Brendan used a GM scan tool to read real time data, and noticed that the MAP sensor vaccum appeared to be responding sluggishly. The culprit was a piece of mud dauber nest lodged in the vaccum fitting for the MAP sensor (on the bottom rear of the intake). It was causing intermittent vaccum loss to the MAP and dumping fuel to compensate for an misinterpreted lean condition. What the hell! A mud dauber nest??? Really? I never would have found that! Guess that should have been expected since it sat in an Oklahoma barn for 27 years LoL... I went to get some miles on her today, but as soon as it hits 3rd gear it just revs free.... Runs like a striped ape in 1st and second though! I should have a video up tomorrow. |
Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Glad you have the engine concern fixed and sorry to hear about the transmission. Hopefully no more bugs!

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Well at least he is moving and "road worthy". Someone PM'd me about the new April truck of the month contest "Do you drive that" What do think does Cecil meet the criteria for it since he he now moving on his own?

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Great news about the motor. That type of problem can make you start to second guess yourself, but a mud dauber nest. Why would you ever think to look for something like that. Guess that's why we have guru's. Sucks about tranny.

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
We call'em dirt dobbers had one clog up the vent tube on the trans on my Harley and it was building up pressure and forcing fluid out from around the clutch cable couldn't figure that leak out had a buddy who had the same problem and figured it out

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Awe damn Jim. Missed opportunity. I'm sure I'll come up with an excuse to go back again. LoL
My vote for truck of the month goes to Cecil, but I may be biased. FREAKIN MUD DAUBERS!!! |
Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Awesome Shawn! Bart is coming tomorrow afternoon to do some pressure testing, and take it back to his shop for a trans if need be.

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Shawn/Chris Beautiful truck. I also think you guys nailed the stance, can you tell me what backspacing the rims have? I either missed it or cannot find it in your posts.
Thanks Tom |

The fronts are ridler 695 18x8, 5x4.75 +0 4.5" The Rears are ridler 695 20x10, 5x4.75 +0 5.5" Hope this helps. If you going to run the tires that I am it will be challenging as Chris has alluded. He made some crazy mods to his cab brackets not to mention drop leafs and spindles just to get the stance right. Also there will be some rub up front if you crank the wheel for super sharp turn. This is something I am willing to live with for now just to get the look. |
