So... 20 days ago we were here....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/90029511417a.jpg

What has been consuming the past 20 mind numbing boring days you might ask?

Well getting to this point

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/cf73720b8f2e.jpg

Part of me didn't want to post this update as it must be as boring for you as it is for me but hey! Misery loves company right?

Even dog couldn't bring herself to watch anymore....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/37564e75e97c.jpg

Did also weld up a few of the redundant holes in the firewall as well as the one where the clutch rod resided.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/de10e3744b21.jpg

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/10ff9be69d86.jpg

Also managed to weld up the speedo hole but realised my mistake and just drilled it back out. Doh!

What is the positive then Paul? 2. No, make the 3 things actually.

1. 100mm Knott Wheels of Truth (tm) are the way forward.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/2761145284d5.jpg

2. Sweeping the floor after bare metalling the floor and firewall Woody has lost a few more pounds. - Good job too as I have gained a few over Christmas.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/642539c47bb5.jpg

3. The garage is actually quite tidy now.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/54770e15ab10.jpg

This week I will be making a buy to get all of the materials needed to paint as pretty sure another 3-4 hours will get me to the point where all the holes are filled and the old underseal has been banished.

Phew.

I also had one of those birthday things a few weeks back. A positive on having loads of children, the majority of whom are now off the payroll and earning their own keep, is that when they ask what you would like to mark your King Day and you tell them they throw money at the request which means I was half way to buying another missing component.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/8fbe64b0363a.jpg

Not exactly overnight parts from Japan but....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/dc698ce57332.jpg

This is a pretty comprehensive kit and well worth the money as it includes new headlight switch, ignition switch, dimmer switch etc etc. Consider me spoilt.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/4c790282e5f7.jpg

Now, if any one knows where there is a t56 I might actually get somewhere!

Until the next 'riveting' update and with ith the clock ticking until the 9th April deadline I will bid you good night

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/924e7f09a157.jpg

ONWARDS!!!

Re: The English are coming! Or..another C10 in the Motherland.

So, today, in anticipation of my good friend Jay the Spring Slashers visit to PY Towers next Friday to oversee my application of paint to Woody's firewall, I did a buy.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/a0afad829fe6.jpg

Please don't let this picture give you the impression that I knew what to buy as I was given a shopping list and directed towards Colchester Panel to make the said purchase. As Woody is an ex Forestry commission truck there is no paint code as such so I took a panel with me to get a good match. Don't think they would have had faded Chevy green in stock...

My first time visit to Colchester Panel and it won't be my last. Very knowledgable and car nerds as well. Turns out we had some shared contacts from the past so the conversation quickly turned into I will show you mine if you show me yours. If you are in that part of the world I would thoroughly recommend them, plus they were cheaper than I could buy it online.

Came home on Thursday to be greeted by a parcel.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/66e18731cea6.jpg

Actually forgot I had purchased this fine piece of Chinesium - for £16 shipped I will give it a go, I mean they are factory fitment aren't they?

Not much going to happen this weekend as Lady P's birthday but stay tuned for laughs a plenty as I attempt to lay down paint.... Wonder if I should buy the paint stripper now.....

Until the next time.

ONWARDS!

So Awesome that you are moving forward the project!! Honestly i am just about done with the "Other Projects" and so ready to get back onto the "66. I have a couple more wires to connect on my 1969 C10 LS Holly wiring system and it will be done! then back to 66.

Hi Jeff!

Good to hear from you, not seen your posts for a while so thought you had grown up and gone and purchased a Tesla to become a Plaid Dad....

Woody has to get done as I am bored with having a paper weight in the garage. PLUS I haven't annoyed my own, or Grizz, neighbours in far too long.

Hopefully lots will get accomplished this weekend so stand by for another major step forward.

I have bribed my good friend Jay the Spring Slasher with Brisket based Chilli in exchange for him standing behind me whilst I apply paint to Woodys underside.

Be prepared for either abject fail or soaring victory!

Re: The English are coming! Or..another C10 in the Motherland.

So dear reader did my epic chilli allow the creative juices to flow?

Yes, Yes I think they did.

Let me preface this diatribe by making a confession. Painting scares me. Yes, I know, hard to believe but the thought of making a right royal cock up and having to strip something back to bare metal again fills me with dread.

Which is why my good pal Jay the Spring Slasher offered to stand behind me to make sure that if it all did go a bit Pete Tong he would be on hand to advise and correct.

Without further ado then lets open up the special mix paint and see how close it is to the panel I took as a sample.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/008549f5e313.jpg

Ahh.....

Lets hope it looks a little better when on a panel....

First job was to do a bit of masking.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/7f18f3d96c78.jpg

Followed by loading the gun with Epoxy...

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/7de8319cccb1.jpg

Quickly resulting in Jay making sure the gun was set up properly.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/3b921ae9b155.jpg

Before I was allowed to take over the reins resulting in this.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/08a1cf6e6d23.jpg

Not too bad, a few sags but nothing that couldn't be easily fixed, and a little confidence booster.

A second coat was quickly applied before turning the heater to full and retreating to the kitchen for Chilli, home made Guacamole and Salsa all washed down with a few bottle of Corona. Lovely.

An hour later everything had flashed off enough to mix up the Raptor, tint it with the GREEN and, deep breath, see how bad it actually was.

Paint, paint. Spray, spray.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/8eca35921603.jpg

Two coats later. well it is definitely GREEN!

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/ecdfcd37bd4a.jpg

But actually it is a pretty close match to the panels that have been hiding from the Californian sun for the past 50 years.

As we were cleaning up I stuck a bit of thinners on a rag and wiped the door over as they were very badly sprayed to reveal....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/25f974e2a303.jpg

It was late by this time but was up early this morning as got all excited at the though there might be some genuine old fashioned sign writing on the doors but.....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/c7bce4668f16.jpg

That will be a no then.

However it is much better than before so I am still counting that as a win!

For a comparison, the drivers door.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/147f29506619.jpg

With that I have family duties to attend to so tune in again next week when I will be putting some paint on the fire wall. What could possibly go wrong...

Until then.

ONWARDS!!!!

Re: The English are coming! Or..another C10 in the Motherland.

Mid week progress? Why not I say!

With the floor done it was now time to spray the GREEN! onto the firewall.

First things first, a quick going over of the epoxy to get rid of the orange peel.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/b0d5ab193df2.jpg

Didn't do too bad a job of that, quite pleased.

A quick mask up using the plastic film rather than the paper - a much better system.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/a8ed92194a7e.jpg

And then time to load the gun up with the GREEN!

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/043e2cea3d72.jpg

Yup, still looks like Kermit.

After careful consultation with my mentor it was decided that he would be in charge of the gun for this evenings activities so, without further ado....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/7c7425325de9.jpg

Paint, paint. Spray, spray....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/a305a13e14c4.jpg

And the end result.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/b4a712fbc2f0.jpg

Pretty pleased with that.

Had a slight problem with my big heater which decided to pack up halfway through the process resulting in a small run but hopefully that will be covered by the engine. Either way this has given me a big boost to move onto the next part of the build, painting the interior.

With only 54 days to go until my date with destiny I better get my finger out.

Until the next time.

As I am still child like in my excitement over splashing a bit of paint on Woody I popped into the garage this morning to check the colour match.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/5aeeb87286ab.jpg

I would say that is pretty good.

Interior is going to be the original fawn and silver gold. Paint ordered so as soon as I get Woody back on his feet will start to strip the interior and get prepped for paint.

Feel rather pleased to say the least....

In between cutting up fallen trees and convincing my father that it was really not a good idea to go and cut the tops off the trees that hadn't fallen - it has been a bit 'Windy' in the UK over the past few days to say the least.... - I did manage to find a few hours on Saturday to play Tetris in my garage and get the front clip onto the lawn for cleaning and prep ahead of a coat of Raptor.

What should have been an hours job tops ended up being a 3 hour marathon as my petrol pressure washer decided that it didn't want to play ball and I spent an inordinate amount of time stripping the carb and cleaning it - who said this e10 stuff was harmless....

Anyway. Spray spray. Wash, wash.

Ta DA!

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/2492b51cbda2.jpg

Clean. Then reverse Tetris to get it back in the garage, rough up the surface, throw some rust converter on it and mask up.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/46cb9b4ab93d.jpg

30 seconds to type, 2 hours to achieve. Which is where I left it as I was in danger of loosing vital parts of my anatomy if I did not spend some time with Lady P.

Up early this morning and mixed up the Raptor for my first solo flight. Must admit I stood there for a good 10 minutes going over how I was going to spray this in my head and then another 10 procrastinating until I thought, Sod It, added the paint and harder to the pot and Pssshhhh. PPPPssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Two coats later.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/0b62b87021db.jpg

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/14c6773adedc.jpg

Think I have just become 'dangerous' with a gun....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/9bbb5b5e271e.jpg

That now concludes the painting element of our story - well until the inside - next, back to mechanical, building an exhaust working out what the hell to do with the gearbox and plonking the body back on the chassis.

47 days and counting. Can see some late nights in my future.

With that I will leave you to your Sunday roast.

Until the next time....

Onwards!!!!

Pretty much.

There is a tintable version as well as black, and I think white. If you get the tintable basically add the colour to the first rib of the bottle. Add the hardener to the second rib.

Shake like a Polaroid picture and spray.

Re: The English are coming! Or..another C10 in the Motherland.

So, on a day of pretty dismal international news I thought I would share what some would call Karma, or paying it forward according to @grizz and why I have this in my hand...

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/23b13e567c8d.jpg

Without going into huge detail I am fortunate enough to be reasonably well known in my industry which means I occasionally get asked to present at conferences, sit on panels and, a first for me, give lectures to university's.

The later resulted in another opportunity which in turn lead to a conversation that culminated in "well if you don't want to be paid what do you want?"

This all happened back on October and, to be very honest I didn't think what I asked for as a joke would actually turn up until a rather cold February morning found me in Southampton with this in the boot of my wife's car.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/3e0a7fe89cdf.jpg

For those keeping up with the story you will probably remember that I had resigned myself to using the SM420 that came with Woody so had already ordered a flywheel and was going to reuse the clutch but, on the off chance that this stupid story was actually turn into reality I had ordered a clutch kit and various other components to fit the T56 as, at some time, I would have use for them.

So what was in the box then Baldy?

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/e875d20b4955.jpg

I still cant believe that this actually happened.

Anyway, my aim has been to spend an hour per night in the shed - it always ends up being more like 2 - as I try to get Woody ready for the 9th April.

I had already decided to upgrade the dog bone in the oiling system and replace the RMS so that was one nights work.

For those that don't know the dog bone resides behind here.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/8134d74b3d01.jpg

And is the beige plastic thing on the lower left of the picture.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/3cf313731cf0.jpg

Extraction is a bit of a faff but nothing a wood screw can't overcome...

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/9864882d2507.jpg

So why do you replace it then. Quite simply it diverts the oil from the main oil gallery through the filter and is a little 'weak' when compared to the aftermarket alternatives. Plus for $20 it is cheap insurance.

Observe.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/0b1da05b5c87.jpg

And installed.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/91abe83db602.jpg

Next job on the list was to install this little Johny.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/89f4afcd4a35.jpg

Pretty simple operation once I had cleaned out the end of the crank and deployed my assortment of Tonya Hardings...

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/98782e67638e.jpg

Aannnnndddd... in.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/b306c6f85d78.jpg

Flywheel next after I spent 2 hours calling around all of the local motor factors looking for blue loctite. I mean you would think I had asked for Vlad's telephone number....

Which lead me onto the the first challenge of the proceedings. The instructions/warranty that come with the gearbox are very specific that you must index the bell housing. What they don't tell you is that you need an index plate to accomplish this which I only realised after spending 2 hours with a dial indicator thinking I must be some sort of numpty... Needless to say I realised my mistake and the plate is making its way across the ocean as we speak.

Problem is I really wanted to fit the gearbox for two reasons.

A) I wanted to make the exhaust over the weekend and wanted to make sure that everything lined up with the box in place

and

B) I wanted to make Brumm Brumm noises.

So, lets break out the trusty Chinesium engine crane

Use a stap as a sling

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/4b4755ddafd1.jpg

And hoink this bad boy out of its box...

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/15fba6807820.jpg

Oooooohhhh....She Thiccccccc

And in!

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/c22193bad74e.jpg

Believe me, the struggle was real hence the lack of actual instal pictures.

Annnnndddddd... The money shot....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/9a11f7593ac6.jpg

BRUUUUMMMMM, BRRRRRUUUUUUUMMMMMM, BBBBRRRRUUUUUMMMMMMM etc.

In closing, sometimes it pays to invest time, give of your self and 'pay it forward' . I think that this is especially important given the events of today.

Stay safe people and until the next time......

ONWARDS!!!!!

Re: The English are coming! Or..another C10 in the Motherland.

Evening all,

After spending an hour looking at a pair of Flowmaster 40's and a bunch of 2 1/2" pipe I have given up and returned to the sanctity of curse word tv and some sort of Rhubarb beer. Which tastes a bit pants.

Two options open to me.

1) Sulk

2) Ask you lot for your thoughts.

I will take 2 for curse word beer please Paul.

Right. So what is the problem...

Let me illustrate through the medium of a few rubbish pictures.

From the down pipes to the trailing arm crossmember I have a pretty straight run.

Behold!

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/669ba65eb6ab.jpg

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/9844e6de6f6b.jpg

There is enough room between the braces to run a 4" pipe so plenty of room for activities.

My initial thought was to put the flow masters there standing vertically but after a quick mock up they hang too far below the chassis rail. Not what I am really after.

I could mount them in front of the axle, again standing vertically to get the exit from the box over the top of the axle. Ok that would work on the passenger side

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/c81bbd7b7fa9.jpg

But on the drivers side we run into clearance problems....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/44bc6c25fff8.jpg

Over the axle is fine bit we then have the challenge of the tank and Panhard bar mount.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/ce5892b65537.jpg

I can get a 2 1/2" pipe between the mount and tank but there is no room for movement of any kind. So probably not going to work.

Cant snake it outside the chassis rail as there is not enough room between the axle and frame rail.

I could be lazy and just dump the exhaust in front of the axle but not a big fan of that.

Second option is to get a pair of bullets or Cherry bombs - if anybody has a pair in the shed in 2 1/2" flavour please let me know - and place them between the frame rail and brace.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/8a6d11b364a8.jpg

Here.

Thinking then is to run the exits out each side in front of the wheels,

3rd option is the same as above but merged the two 2 1/2" pipes into the spare bit of 4" straight I have and run it through here to the back bumper.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/a1e994102d79.jpg

In time I will probably get the exhaust done professionally but, for the interim, just looking for something that works, is reasonably low cost and will sound OK.

How would you tackle the problem?

Have I missed something, is there another way to do this?

Let me know as my plans of getting this done over the weekend have been dashed - due to lack of material (thought I could use the old exhaust) so have time to collect bits and get it done during the week.

Thanks?

Cherry Bombs :-) - that takes me back...

I would go with the cherry bomb (or modern equiv) and dump before the axle (for now).
Once the truck is up and running get a fancy stainless one made to fit (if you go turbo things will likely change too...

paint looks great by the way

Until I saw how expensive they now are that was my thinking as well!

I am going to use the Flowmasters and work out where to put the exit once I have got the pipes to them.

As you say, a temporary solution as the Turbooooo set up will be a single pipe on the drivers side so don't want to invest huge funds.

Re: The English are coming! Or..another C10 in the Motherland.

So....

20 months ago Woody's cab was firmly ensconced on his rather grubby chassis.

http://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/8c0ab90942e4.jpg

And #3 son was manning the engine crane as separated the cab from the chassis for the first time in 54 years.

So today righted his Woodship back onto the pallet dolly and peeled him out into the sun.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/f57ed470b3bb.jpg

Pretty happy with that colour match.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/134751653baa.jpg

Deployed the cab lift collected from @grizz this very morning - thank Martin!

And with #3 sons help...

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/4aee847148e7.jpg

Carefully manoeuvred Woody back onto the chassis.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/dff66f0ed130.jpg

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/9fcecdaaa42f.jpg

Very Very happy with that!

So... Why did I plonk the cab back on the chassis?

Quite simple really, I wanted to make sure I had the engine back as far as possible before I measured and ordered the prop shaft - Turns out I can go back at least an inch, maybe 1 1/2"

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/23aea6ca6654.jpg

You can also see the Raptor overspray which I am going to try clay baring before resorting to more drastic measures.

Which In turn means I can now cut the new shifter hole plus make sure the exhaust will actually fit. Nice.

Mr Grinder and Mrs Spring are definitely going to have a second date in the not too distant future

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/45bb312665da.jpg

The drivers door is definitely not the original judging by the paint either now that I have removed the awful rattle can paint job...

Tomorrows job between servicing #3 sons Mini and repairing the fences will be to move the engine back as far as I can before taking the cab off again to measure the run out on the bell housing, make the exhaust and run the electrical cables from the mid mounted battery box I still have to make...

Progress? Nah.... But it made me feel good so that is always a plus point.

Until the next time viewers.

ONWARDS!!!!!

Must admit that when I opened the tin originally I was a little disappointed but now it is on, and out in the sun, I think anybody would struggle to get it closer.

Ya I really like it. Makes me want to start over watching the progress your making. Once it's all done (for me) it's anticlimactic.

Making good progress...and as always, one of the more entertaining threads on the forum. Keep up the good work.

Re: The English are coming! Or..another C10 in the Motherland.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for the kind words.

Anyway. Because I am a numpty the chances of hitting my 9th April deadline is pretty close to zero.

Why? You ask dear reader, well let me tell you.

The Tremec gearbox people make a big thing about ensuring that the bell housing run out is within 005". If you think about it makes sense as there is zero run out in the front bearing meaning that if it is misaligned then there is going to be undue pressure on the bearing which, in turn is going to lead to failure and, apparently, difficult shifting.

Because I just didn't think about it (remember that phrase...) I had not ordered an indexing plate that makes the process of checking the run out possible. A T56 is not like the old T10's etc that I am more used too in so much as there is not a nice hole in the middle of the bell housing.

A picture paints etc....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/d6f035b7c560.jpg

So the indexing plate bolts across the mammoth opening to give that nice circle that you can measure.

Stick a dial gauge on the flywheel and rotate the engine 90 degrees to give the concentricity of the bell housing to the back of the engine.

Like this.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/2f8e3df2f96c.jpg

As mentioned above, maximum run out is 0.005"

Mine was a little out.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/ece26eeb4779.jpg

To adjust the concentricity so that it is within spec you use offset engine dowels, Mine showed that I needed 0.07" dowels.

Now, if I had though about is (see above) I would have ordered a number of dowels with the indexing plate but, because I didn't think about it (also see above), I had to wait another 7 days for them to be delivered from Summit. Numpty.

Whilst waiting for the indexing plate I did move the engine back as far as possible, the crank pulley is just in front of the crossmember now so pretty happy with that.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/afae7ca87650.jpg

This did cause a slight issue further back as the gearbox extension was very very close to the strengthening in the boxing section.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/39f3da688f96.jpg.

Anyway, fast forward a week and these turned up courtesy of Mr. UPS.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/1c04bd760f02.jpg

As I headed out to the garage at 7am, in my head this meant that I would have the bell housing indexed and the gearbox in by lunch time, which meant I could then take Lady P out for a spot of brunch...

First things first, let's establish the high side of the dowel shall we.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/1c67c88beaa2.jpg

Annnddd that is where my carefully laid plans went to complete rat poop....

There are very few things in life that I say I will never do again.

Watching The First Pokemon film, having Sepsis and now, added to that list indexing a cast aluminium bell housing.

This actually broke me both physically and mentally.

The problem was I couldn't get a constant reading for the concentricity. Every time I checked it the numbers were all over the place. I just couldn't replicate the numbers.

After HOURS of taking the bell housing on and off, adjusting the dowels, taking the readings - rinse and repeat- I knew that I was missing something. I went right back to basics, checking the run out of the flywheel, well within limits, and then checked the bell housing to make sure it was perpendicular to the block.

Bingo! I should have checked it at the beginning but didn't think about it (See above, above) The bottom of the bell housing was kicked out making it impossible to get a good reading. Finally traced the problem to the locating dowels on the index plate not being fully home and finally, FINALLy managed to get a constant reading. Even better was that is showed less than 0.02" run out.

Perfect.

I am now going to subject you to pictures of my success because this took me ALL DAY!

Good old John Bull

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/0f1be6ede68e.jpg

Next step was to Install this.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/cc6945f3fbce.jpg

And this.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/bae20fed846d.jpg

With these.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/a8c506112974.jpg

I could then measure the air gap before fitting this.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/74b15b73bc3d.jpg

Before struggling for a further few hours to get this back in place.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/255defbbf5aa.jpg

By this time it was just after 10pm - Lady P had informed me in no uncertain terms that I was taking the P several hours previously - but I had to get this done for my own piece of mind. It is also the first time in my life that I have actually felt my age. Rolling around on a cold garage floor throwing gearboxes in is not a young mans game I realised.

Anyway. As I was already in the dog house I decided to get up early on Sunday morning to remove the gearbox again.

Why? I asked myself the same thing but I couldn't get over how apparently 'easily' the bell housing run out numbers were all suddenly 'in spec'. In fact I had been awake since 4.30 thinking about it so at 6am I was out in the cold undoing all my work.

By 8am it was all back in again, the numbers still checked out and I crept back into bed.

Question I ask myself is how did I manage to get it all out, check the numbers and get it back in again in two hours? Ah yes I remember...it was the threat of having a part of my anatomy, rather dear to me, removed with a rusty spoon if I dared set foot in the garage again this weekend.....

With martial life repaired to a degree I was given the green light to get a few hours in before dinner.

Right. Lets get that exhaust sorted out shall we....

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/696be1887ef1.jpg

Amongst my purchases this week were a few sticks of 2 1/2" exhaust tubing, 2 x V Band clamps 4 X 90 degree mandrill bends in addition to cabling, a 10 tonne press and all the required ends to make up the electrical circuit.

First things first, lets get a length of pipe cut down to size.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/87d7d2969e67.jpg

Tack the V Band in place.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/20eae60ae838.jpg

And start to run things through the jungle gym.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/8a540b27578b.jpg

According to Summit you can run a 3 1/2" system through the bars... I think they are being a bit over optimistic as the 2 1/2" doesn't leave a whole lot of room.

Sliced up the old down pipe and used my best metal glue technique to create this master piece.

BEHOLD!

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/8a7964d288de.jpg

Yup. Never going to be a welder...

Still have to replace the o2 bung but at least I am a 1/3rd of the way to getting an exhaust out the back.

https://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/pauly/09cbfdd13771.jpg

Sorted of tempted to just straight pipe it but.....

Anyway, not wanting to sleep in the spare room I decided enough was enough and returned to inside for Sunday dinner and a bit of rubbish TV.

To answer the original question at the top of the page, the 9th April is not going to happen just because I don't have enough hours left to compete everything that needs to be done.

Loosing 2 weeks with the index plate, and then the dowels, just means I would have to be working ever night to even stand the remotest chance and, at that point, it becomes a chore rather than enjoyment.

Good news is that I am far enough forward that the end of April is looking like a safe bet, well until I forget to order the next thing I didn't think about!

So, until the next time, ONWARDS!!!
