Here is a picture of my T-case from the side in line with the top of frame. from top of frame to center of output shaft is 2-1/2". give or take 1/8" the parking break is in the way for accurate measurement.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
I thought I posted already. Not sure why it's not here.....
David thanks for the picture. I will try and measure mine tonight. I think I am about 2-1/2" from top rail now that I lowered it 1". Thanks |

I have been coaching football and my sons have been shooting Trap as it is state shoot time of the year. This month my youngest plays for the USA Football Under 16 team in Los Angeles and then both my sons and I fly to Olympia, Washington and then Sparta Illinois to shoot trap, all this in July. Sorry ,but unfortunately not much is happening on the truck except for ordering parts. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Update if I can say that.
While I am down in the LA area I decided to go shopping at The Truck Shop in Orange Ca. Spent a bunch of money. New hood and latch, door handles, lock and key set, headlight stuff, etc etc. When I get home I should have all the stuff to do the exhaust except the TIG welder I ordered. Should have a free weekend next weekend so hopefully I can get some stuff done. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Those guys come out to to the Carlisle show every year, good prices.

Hello everyone, got a little mock up of the exhaust while I am waiting on the New TIG welder to show up. I think I am going to flip the muffler so the inlet is next to the frame rail anyways hope you all good and out in the shop/garage working on your projects!!!

Hey guys, I have been going crazy. When I get a minute or two I have been doing little things. I decided to powder coat the rear leaf sprints and a bunch of brackets and the inner fender wells.
Sorry Not a good picture. Here are some of the leafs still wrapped up.. |

Here is the main leaf put on. After I get the exhaust tacked up I will finish the leaf pack.

Purchased a new toy. When the argon bottle gets delivered I can start the exhaust.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Somebody has some new toys. I like the tig welder and the Rotisserie. I powered coated my springs as well.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
DW did you put anything between your leaf springs? Between the leafs springs and the overload it had a white sheet of plastic. I was wondering if I should sheet between all the leafs. What do you think or do?
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
thin plastic might not hurt... I envision squeaking in your future. I used a urethane paint so it will probably do the same.
Did you go with urethane bushings or stock rubber? |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Thin plastic is what I was planning to use. I bought poly bushing and lubed them up good. Plus greassble shackle bolts.

My front tuff country springs have the black plastic cushions on the ends also. It's the original rear springs I will have to sheet.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
I've seen people use graphite paint between leaves to make them slide nice and easy. I would think with plastic you'll need uhmw or polyurethane, something that will handle the beating

I order the below. Thought it was worth a try for 7 bucks.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Spring liners interesting. How does it attach.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
I think I can cut to fit and put hole in them and bolt in between springs. When I took the spring pack apart it had a white plastic sheet between the overload and the spring pack. So I think I am going to try the same. Just between all the leafs
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
That might work. I thought about buying some plastic from Super Lift and using those if they sell them. they would snap into a hole that would be drilled.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
I thought about those snap in ones also. But I was worried about drilling holes in a leaf spring. I heard bad things after people have done it. Spring snapping etc.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
That's why I didn't do anything I was unsure about modifying the springs.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Just cut them into playing card size and sandwhich them between the springs in the Ubolt area...
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
my Super lift springs are at the end of each spring where the movement is. installing them at the U bolt area wont do much for movement.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
The roll of liner above is 4" wide x 8' long so I was thinking of just cutting the roll in half and running it the length of the springs.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Give a go it should work. the metal straps that keep the springs aligned will keep them from shifting from side to side.

I got chance to play with my new tig welder. Decided to just jump into fabricating the exhaust. This picture is from the passenger side header and around the tranmission/t-case brace to the 2-1/2" to 3" Y-pipe.

Getting a little closer. I got the driver side exhaust pipe routed under the transfer case. I just need to fabricate the hangers and get the tailpipe out the back.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Wow your exhaust is looking great, excellent work as usual!

That is some nice tig welding. When are having classes so I can improve my skills. What is the black rod that goes from the back of the engine to the T-case.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
I don't think thats a rod... I believe it is a 3" electric exhaust cutout! :burnout:
This continues to be epic. CT Edit: I now see the black rod on the passenger side from t case to engine area along the frame rail... No idea. |

Hey guys. The TIG welding problem I have it the stop and starts. I can't get the weld to look uniform. I am sure I just need more practice. One thing with TIG welding is patience. Which I have little. While I am welding I keep saying to myself, "Slow down, take your time". Just about the time I get it looking good I will be done with the welding on the exhaust. Lol.
As for the black rod. On the newer model t-cases (the aluminum ones) np208-263 I think have a rod that attached to the long side of the t-case to one of the bell housing bolts. At least on the square bodies. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
That's what I thought it was. my 84 had one.

Hey guys I was able to finish up on the exhaust yesterday well up to the muffler. I finished up the hangers and put all the gaskets on the headers and collectors. I don't want to do the tailpipe yet because I am not sure where I want it. I also had my son finish up the rear diff cover. I just need to straighten out the brake lines they look to high.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Looking good on the exhaust system. I love them diff covers.
