Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project
Inner fenders are looking great. Where is the car show at?

Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project
Thanks Ghostwhite, I'll be giving that stuff a try.
Cos99 - thanks! Local show in Kalispell, MT. It brought nearly 300 vehicles last year and they expect more this year. ------------------------ Spent a little time lastnight fabricating a wiper motor cover: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...AFA782AC26.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...2442A3DF06.jpg And today I'm trying to get the raised bedfloor built and ready for wood. Seems to be moving along fairly easily... http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...714FE16640.jpg I have to wait until next week to finish up under the hood. The guy helping me had some parts he was working on and I don't really understand what his plan was, so I'll post up pics when it's done. |
Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project
I finished up the raised bedfloor framing. All told, it took around 12hrs with several breaks and slackin off. 75dually - I switched it up a little so I didn't copy you! Haha
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...80F83D5612.jpg I also got a latch built and installed for the access door. Simple, but effective. I plan to connect a trunk solenoid so the door will flip up with a button... http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...AE5EEA13E2.jpg |
Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project
Finished up the inner fenders/engine bay covers and remounted my compressor manifold in a better spot.

Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project
Thanks guys.
The show was great. Around 300 vehicles showed up and we walked away with a judges choice award. I found it fun to stand within earshot listening to the different reactions of people as they looked the truck over. "How did he get it here without getting stuck?" "I bet he has hydraulics so he can hop it." "His roof is lower than the floor of my <random lifted billy-rig>." http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...652F72584B.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...4145291003.jpg And I had an experience in the parking lot of Lowes that has made all of this work worth it: I had just started the truck and aired up when a 80-something little old lady hobbled over to my window with her cane. She said, "Nice truck; does it have hydraulics?" I explained that it's actually on air and uses bags and is truthfully a smoother ride than the cars with hydraulics. Then she says, "Oh that's pretty swell. I used to ride around with some cholos in east LA back in the early 70's and we all had hydraulics on our cars...keep on truckin!" |
Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project
Nice. It doesn't get any better than compliments from little old ladys.

Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project
So amazing! What a fun weekend.

Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project
Congrats on the hardware! That's a hilarious story.

Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project
Congrats on the award. I was standing by your truck and a 10 year old boy said something along those same lines. He couldn't figure out how you got over the speed bumps.

Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project
I took the dually up to the 9th annual "Rumble in the Bay" in Bigfork, MT yesterday. The show started at 10am, so I preregistered a week in advance and showed up at 6:15am...there were already 30 vehicles in front of me. All told, there were over 300 that showed and the show spilled into several side streets. I never heard any kind of a count on spectator attendance, but it was hard to walk around due to the size of the crowd.
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...F586678745.jpg Im sure that a lot of the turnout was due in part to the fact the promoters advertised that Dennis Gage from My Classic Car would be in attendance and filming on location. Surprisingly, he sourced me out and I did a quick interview about the dually. I was able to snag a quick shot of him with my boys and they each got a signed sticker. Dennis told me that footage should air on an episode sometime in the spring. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...C668750357.jpg Admittedly, I had to go look up the show on the Internet. (I've been Netflix only for the past several years). I guess it's a show about shows... My boys got busted by the fuzz... http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...E7AF31514C.jpg And this car (which really should have taken best of show, but didn't place in anything) was just all kinds of badass. All metal, all airbrushed, embroidered leather interior, stainless everything, bagged, etc... http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...53422DC60D.jpg |
Re: My 83' Crew Cab Dually project
White walls do look good on your rig and Congratulations on being selected for an interview and eventually being a "TV Star." :metal: :metal:
