We did install a partition curtain between the clean side of the shop and the fab side. Now that we are into sheet metal we will be using body fillers and shooting primer so needed to protect the "clean" stuff.

Never thought I would say this about a shop but " I love what you have done with the curtains" LOL

Further progress on the core support.
Greg is running a Vintage Air system so today we got the condenser integrated. :metal: Attachment 1870620 Attachment 1870621 Attachment 1870622 Attachment 1870623 Attachment 1870624 |

Fabricating the valance that sits in front of the core support and covers the top of the radiator. This is pretty straight forward but it does have a few tricky parts to it. We want to do quite a bit of bead rolling on this and it is more then 5 foot wide so we need to build it in halves then weld it together after Greg rolls it and brakes it.
So we needed to mock it up in cardboard, not as easy as it seems. Attachment 1871342 Attachment 1871343 Attachment 1871344 Attachment 1871345 Attachment 1871346 |

Then transfer it to some 18 gauge and lay out the bead rolling patterns
Attachment 1871348 Attachment 1871349 We will start on the bead work, brake work and welding in the morning. |
Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Looking good Robert. Before u get to far check your parking light clearance with your filler panel with the hood shut. They are very close there. I actually had to modify my light housing a little. Your work looks great.👍

Seems everything is fitting up nicely. bending this to the correct shape was a challenge but with some perseverance, determination and a lot of stubbornness we got to welding and final fitting.

Greg is getting better and better running the bead roller, and now is the sole operator of it. . We are finding more and more places in our design to incorporate it.

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Your work is looking good. One question, is the hood gonna clear that radiator support? It looks really tall compared to a stock one.

Back in the old days I was pretty cavalier about just putting stuff together, only to find out it had to be done again because I failed to be out in front in terms of design and planning. Today, I am honestly too lazy to do things twice. |

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
We are officially in the market for a break. Our finger press break is fine but we want a tad more versatility so we are shopping diligently.

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Robert, Not sure what size brake your looking for but their are a few on Flea bay that are in socal. 18 gauge x 10 foot Chicago machinery...

That is a slick idea on that cover. Man it is going to look so good when everything is bodyworked and painted. Will look like gm should have designed it. 👍👍

Details on the "tilting core support lid" Our own little design that solves several issues in regards to hiding stuff.
the hinge allows the part to lift as it opens thus preventing any unwanted paint removal. we built an exact "buck" of the custom aluminum radiator to allow us to build the core support and orient specific parts. I have in the past bumped into the new radiators on other builds and left witness marks to my clumsiness. The plywood mock up doesn't mind me welding or grinding right next to it. How about a picture of the Owner of this fine truck?
Greg Beebe. My best friend and partner in this build. It is his truck, his money and his dream we are creating here. I am just a guy making sparks in my shop. Attachment 1905952 |

If anyone has any requests for any details we have not shown, let me know. Will be working on the truck the next couple of days and would be happy to shoot pictures or even video on any of the hundreds of one off things we built on this truck.
We are pretty proud of it, but embarrassed it is taking so long to finish. |
Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
This is such a great and amazing build thread. I hope you keep updating it as you do more stuff to the trucks. Some other threads may get more replies, but this one is outstanding.

The tilting radiator cover came out great. We can hide just about everything.
I also widdled out a mount for the AC drier Attachment 1930047 Attachment 1930048 Attachment 1930049 Attachment 1930050 So now we have split the truck once more. The cab and bed are off the chassis and we will be finishing all the sheet metal inside the engine compartment and getting started on the bed I will pop back in once we have something worth showing you. |
