What an incredible build and journey, very impressive and belated congrats on your son. Amazing that this is your first build, sure doesn't seem that way!

Small update. I’ve been busy cleaning the shop and getting everything ready for paint. My indoor paint booth took some time to install but should help keep any contaminants out of the paint. Also took my core support and some random pieces to a local powder coater. I’m very pleased with how they turned out. It’s nice to finally have atleast a few things ready for final install
Plan is to paint the inside fenders, inside the doors, underside hood, firewall and interior to start. Then I’ll install all the panels and prep to paint the exterior. Attachment 2194455 Attachment 2194456 Core support turned out nice, as did the miscellaneous pieces. Attachment 2194457 Attachment 2194458 Looking forward to sharing my paint color choice. I picked it up the other weekend. Hopefully will get to spraying in the coming weeks. Have a great (and safe) Memorial Day weekend. Al |
Re: 67 SWB First Build
Everything really looks great man! You are making some awesome progress. Can't wait to see some colour. By the way, if I've missed it I'm sorry but what colour are you going with?

We have paint! As mentioned above, i went with the ford color, area 51. It’s a solid blue/gray color. I’ve seen a handful of the ford broncos and the color has a great appearance.
I used the debeer paint system. It consisted of a gray sealer, base coat and clear coat. Tonight I painted the interior of the doors, the inside of the fenders, the firewall/interior cab and jambs. It turned out pretty decent for my first paint job. I have some runs in the clear that I’ll have to sand out, but I can’t say I’m surprised. The color looks a tad bit darker in person than it appears in the pictures. Hopefully more to come in the near future. Al |

Made it up to the shop this weekend. Had enough time to spray the bed. Unfortunately I’ll be redoing the bedsides. There was some orange peel in the clear and after wet sanding, it was evident i didn’t put enough clear down. I’ll more than likely leave the front bed panel alone. It turned out decent. Hoping to get everything painted over the next month or so.

Bedsides sanded down. I decided to leave the roll pan alone as well. I seemed to hit that area with plenty of clear. I’ll plan on reshooting later this week!

Cab and bed in paint, finally! Turned out great for the most part, other than a few runs where i laid the clear on a little too thick. There is also 1 spot where it looks like i missed scuffing in a nook and cranny. I should be able to fix it with little issue. Looking forward to getting the rest done soon!

Re: 67 SWB First Build
Beautiful truck man, very nice. One suggestion for your consideration . . . I love the fuel cap, and actually did the exact same thing/location on my 62 LB. However, I would suggest if you can, or while you can - order some more of those pop-up screw in caps. Mine lasted great for about a month and then would no longer work. I had to change mine out to something different. Hopefully your experience is better than mine, but trust me it will be worth the extra cost to have 1 or 2 extras lying around.
Keep up the awesome work! Doug |

Hoping for more progress in the near future once I get some extra muscle to move the bed back on the frame. |

Had a buddy swing by the other weekend and help me place the bed back on the frame. Then, over the next couple of weeks a managed to get my grill and tailgate in paint. They turned out looking good. I plan on painting the letters later down the road. Last week I taped everything off and sprayed a bed liner kit. I’m really happy with how that turned out :metal:
My father in law swung by yesterday and helped me install the tailgate. Had a heck of a time getting it to fit right, but after messing with it today, I’ve almost got it! Will plan on getting the grill installed soon and possibly break out the wiring harness. |
Re: 67 SWB First Build
Very nice love the color ….wiring next getting closer

Re: 67 SWB First Build
Scurry67, I have been reading up on your build and really like how it is coming out. Great work! I was seriously thinking of doing the dash pad elimination like you did but didn't. Now I kinda wish I did. Very impressive!!
I am hoping to start working on the frame soon so in the spring I can get the cab on the frame. I can't wait to finish my '68 stepside, it will be my daily driver and show truck. |
Re: 67 SWB First Build
My 67 and I are along for the ride with you. You are rocking it!

Not much to report for progress, and likely won’t be for atleast a few months. Baby #2 arrived before Christmas, a healthy baby girl! Until then, it’ll have to be quick trips just to gaze and living vicariously through everyone else’s builds.

Re: 67 SWB First Build
Those 2 babies will give you so much more of a return on your investment than your super cool pick up truck. Congratulations on the healthy beautiful girl!;)

It’s been about 8 months since my last update. Been having too much fun with the fam and too busy at work to get anything done.
Earlier this spring i went in the shop, and realized that there were a few blemishes in my paint on the bed sides. I ended up sanding through the base again… just not enough clear. I also had a spot on the dash that i didn’t hit with enough base coat. At this point i was a little discouraged about having to paint it again, but figured I’d get it in the fall when things slowed down again at work. Well, it’s Fall now and things should be slowing down soon at work. For a little motivation, i cut and buffed the pass door and fender. It definitely helped (don’t mind the mess). |
Re: 67 SWB First Build
Welcome back I’m kinda of in the same mode as you work travel and fam stuff …love that color

Re: 67 SWB First Build
Very nice job. The amount of effort you put in on the bodywork is amazing. Enjoy the pay off. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the build

Re: 67 SWB First Build
Definitely an outstanding build! I am just now getting to my frame. I can certainly relate to balancing family and working on the truck. I cannot wait to see what the final product looks like with the lights, engine, and interior installed. Your work is very motivational for me to get my truck finished!

Thanks for the compliments everyone.
I’ve been getting up to the shop most nights recently, for at least an hour. I spent the week re-prepping the interior, the tubs, and a few other misc pieces for paint. Ended up painting Friday night. Ended up being a productive night :metal: Grill inserts had a couple spots in the back that were a tad light on basecoat from a previous painting attempt. I taped them off and rehit them. Much better! Attachment 2310656 Back of hood in paint. Attachment 2310657 Dash/interior is looking much better. Attachment 2310658 Tubs turned out decent, too Attachment 2310659 Next objective is to repaint drivers fender and bedsides. I’ll also start cutting/buffing the interior. Attachment 2310660 |

Update: bedsides and driver’s fender are in paint. Onto the cut and buff. Hope to get after it this week.

Re: 67 SWB First Build
Real nice build. Sure takes a while don't it? I started mine in 2015. I'm in well over a year for a front bumper and seat, they're still pending. Since covid, things have proved very difficult to have done, and right.

I’m dreading the wait time on my seat upholstery. I’ll find that out this December I’m thinking. By the way, i really enjoy your build. I’ve stayed caught up on it for awhile now. It’s been very informational! |

Taking a little break from the buffing. I felt like switching it up a little bit. I hung the inner fenders a couple nights ago. Very minor scratches I’ll have to clean up at some point.
I also decided to break out the new wiring harness. Every time i looked at it, i’d get intimidated and find something else to do. I finally decided to jump into it though. I’ve been taking small bites out of it every night i get up to the shop. It seems to be progressing and is less intimidating now. |
